When you say "upgrade the forum", what exactly do you mean? |

The big cost to upgrade will be someone to handle the migration from one database to another. It would be easy enough to roll out a free Joomla CMS website frontend and a free Kunena forum plugin (plus hosting costs). Might be other free (open source) forum software out there too. I'll have to look for a contact, I might know someone that could handle the database migration. Just need to see how busy he is right now. He was doing the Linux IT where I work, but left for other IT related ventures. (Message edited by Greg_E on May 31, 2016) (Message edited by Greg_E on May 31, 2016) |

Matt, Mainly converting the forum software to something that is supported. The Discus guy won't even return my emails. |

Once I get past all these medical bills, I can increase my monthly donation. The foreseeable future has me on a tight budget. |

I'm checking to see if someone I know might be able to handle the DB migration, he did this kind of thing for us when he worked here. He also rides motorcycles. When I hear back I'll send a private message. Back to a sort of discussion, when I was looking for the easiest solution to put something together for our department, I decided that Joomla would be the easiest for our users to submit content. It can be as simple as a front page, or as complex as a big website. And with that is the free forum Kunena plugin. The only requirements are a web server with PHP and a DB (like MariaDB) so any of the Linux/Unix hosts will work fine, and I think you can run it on Windows hosts too. I was working with CentOS7 at that time and ended up pushing it out to an unknown Unix shared host (our needs are small), nothing to be scared of. And as I mentioned, FREE CMS with lots of nice plugins, and FREE forum software, even FREE OS if you chose with Linux/Unix. Just trying to reduce costs. |

Well, the easy thing to do would be to lock this software, and make it searchable for everyone, and start fresh with new software. Migrate the necessary stuff as needed. That's my 2¢ anyway |

Nice. We're now up to 41 contributors, and after the PayPal fees, we're up to $130/mo recurring plus $920, so our expenses are covered for 13 months. Thanks again to everyone who chipped in and to the dedicated custodians who look after the place. |

Putting MikeyP behind a "curse filter' is almost un-American. . . . . :-) |

Wondering how much (computer) memory does this group take up; from day one to present? |

In an earlier post Blake said it was a few gigabytes of space which is way beyond what the cheap servers will allow. |

I don't think I ever saw an answer to my question a few pages ago... Can I use the BadWeB logo on T-shirts I make for meetups? |

Mike, That was s'posed to be humorous. Type the words at will brother; the red dots are just easily decipherable encryption for most of us. Matt, Glorify what truly deserves the glory. Thanks for asking. I leave it to your judgement. |

I'm still having an issue setting up a recurring payment. After I enter the 2nd factor, it says there was a technical problem with the transaction and to try again later. I've tried three different PCs over several days. No one else having this problem? |

Hoot, try going to Paypal.com, and logging in with the button there, then come back and hit the link on here. Also I'd try another browser. |

Tried logging in first, tried firefox and chrome. I googled the error message, and it appears that I am not alone. There seems to be a bug in the donate function. |

FINALLY got paypal to accept a recurring domination from me without throwing an error! Yes, it was likely my fault, but I tried three different PCs on two different networks, so...who know what it was. (Message edited by hootowl on August 30, 2016) |
