I check our local Humane Society website every now and then. Its almost as bad at looking at new bikes for me... I want them all! They had a litter they just got in from the ASCPA on Monday. Puppies tend to go FAST. But, I checked on Tuesday , Wednesday & Thursday and he was still there. I went over Thursday afternoon for lunch play date.... aaaaand now I have 4 dogs We are now 3 nights into crate training. First night he only made it 2 hours before he had to go outside. Second night he made it from 11pm to 6am before he sounded the alarm. Last night he made it another 7 hours straight before he started crying. He is picking up on what to do and when to do it from the other dogs. When we come in from outside, he sits and waits for his treat just like his the older dogs. He picked up on how to dismount the couch in only a few training sessions... Basically... he is Super Puppy, soon to be Super Dog!

Awesome sauce, Mark! Our two dogs, Rocky and D'Ogee, are rescues- the first, a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix, 10# of shiznit in a 5# sack, THE most serious guard dog we've ever seen. The second, a "trindle" (tri-color w/ brindle) Basenji. So handsome, I call him the George Clooney of Basenji's. Definitely an "odd couple" for dawgies... We have to give Rocky anti-seizure meds twice daily, but he's SO worth it. D'ogee is a loverboy, but given that he moves like a ghost, we gotta watch where he's at at all times- step on him, and you're bitten quicker than a viper. No malice, he just defends himself from us stupid humans. I was just shopping at our local Tuesday Morning today, saw some cute signs... "A Wagging Tail Brings Joy to All Beneath This Roof" came home with me. They had another: "Love Can't Be Bought, But It Can Be Rescued." Edit: Again, I've historically been a giant failure in posting pics, despite multiple attempts. Kitteh pics rarely amuse me as much as a good dawgie pic... maybe I'll try again or just buy Hugh a beer someday for the times he's helped me. (Message edited by 86129squids on March 12, 2017) |

>>>> a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix, 10# of shiznit in a 5# sack . . . I am familiar with that dynamic.

Wow, Court- your little one is a bit less chunky than mine... their dog treats sometimes come from work. Mine has the head and tail of a 'Hua, but the musculature of a JR. Matthew- I thought I'd seen the bifurcated iris on that dog before, how wonderful! I have known a couple of humans with that feature, not as prominent as other species, but- to look into their eyes was different. Still failing at a picture upload. Oh well. |

So cuuuuuute.....awesome rescue work, Mark. I've always had (and always will have) rescues. And Matthew - Addi is GORGEOUS. Love her coloring. I bet she's smart as a whip, too. Makes me miss my ol' boy Calvin...he was my aussie/keeshond mix and we were together for 18 years...
Why do I suspect this is going to turn into another dog thread? |

Why do I suspect this is going to turn into another dog thread? Because dogs are awesome! Here's Max the Great Pyrenees, sniffing out the new girl on the first day we brought her home.

I forgot how much work a puppy can be... 3 time the little turd woke me up for a quick pee and 1 poo... Then one of my older dogs decides he needs let out also... but he couldn't coordinate with the little guy.. I'm going to pass out at my desk... |

Is Monkey in a crate at night? I've learned that's a good way to night-train them...they don't pee or poo where they sleep, and in a crate...there's nowhere to go, so they learn to hold it overnight. I know it sucks to split the pack at night, but...until he learns the nighttime routine... |

He is in a crate... crying his little heart out until I get him out and let him take a whiz. During the day is a different story. No one is home to here him cry for about 5 to 6 hours straight. He is about to pop at that point. |

If you're gone for hours on end, with a crated dog at home, I suggest: Dog door. Crate up against dog door, with crate door open. Temporary fence surrounding dog door on the outside of the house. |

I wish dogs lived longer. Just hurts too bad when they go. I don't want another dog, I want mine back... All our years of selective breeding for different tasks, I wonder how successful we could be (have been) increasing lifespan? Perhaps a discussion for a different thread. |

Yeah, it's tough to lose them. Just remember that there are ALWAYS other great dawgies in need of homes... I can't imagine NOT having any. Life's too short to not live/love with dogs. You may have lost a gem of one, but don't doubt that you can find another. We lost my GF's dog to a horrible, instant tragedy, and she absolutely adored that dog. After we recovered from mourning, we managed to adopt a new, very different one... he's not exactly "filled her shoes", but, yeah, he has, kinda. All the love we had for the lost one is now deployed for the new one, and reciprocated. Hen, just my $.02, but hey. Give it some thought, friend. |

Oh, and BTW, Mark- to clarify, is the new one named "Monkey"? I SO wanted to name our little guy Rocky another name, but the GF wouldn't have "Beavis". |

Super kickass awesomeness! Congrats on your new fur kid. He is adorable! Love the pittie he is next to as well. Rescue dogs are so great! I only have rescues and love them lots and lots. Dog threads rule. I need to post some recent pics of the pittie/boxer mix I showed you all three years ago... |

Awesome! An extra thank you to those that adopt. It is one of the most unselfish acts. I have 4 dogs now, lost 1 a few years ago, and a cat that acts more like a dog, all of course rescues. My ex made fun of me b/c I train the cat just like I did the dogs (sit, stay, lay down, spin in a circle, eat corn from the cob, etc).

They are 6 weeks old yesterday and mom decided to stop nursing over a week ago. A long time family friend decided to give them rice cereal, so we took them home and are nursing them. Both are sharp as a tack. No accidents in potty training. We can sleep the whole night with no potty breaks and no whining. |

nice...we have had a whole mess of rescue animals through our house over the years. We lost our Jack Russell to cancer a few years ago. She was a rescue from a military divorce.......my buddy was deployed and his evil witch of an ex-wife didn't want her. She was an absolute sweetheart and we miss her every day The time has finally come to find another mutt in need of love. We put an application in for adoption at a local rescue on Saturday for a great pup we checked out. Now we wait. I don't like this part. |
