I've been "sword" fighting for over 20 years. Some fencing, some half sword, ( German, 14-16th century. .. wiki half-sword ) mostly SCA armored rattan fighting. Guys I've trained with have gone on to be champion tournament Kendo fighters, others are on the American Team for Battle of Nations. ( European armored series ) I have not & will not joust. Falling off a horse hurts. Getting pounded off one with a heavy pointy pole hurts more. Plus horses are expensive. You can't park them in the shed with a battery tender and expect to ride in spring.
