Probably for the millionth time, looking for some good touring boots that I can walk in and maybe even wear at work. Definitely looking for a riding centric boot, hiking boots aren't the greatest for riding, just like racing boots suck for walking. Also don't want something that screams "motorcycle rider", don't need to wear my hobby on my sleeve or prove how manly I am for riding an XYZ. Mostly to be used on my big touring Harley (foot boards, heel/toe shift).

Also looking for the same for my lady, she just got her motorcycle permit so she needs something for when she is riding on my cycle, or when she is (hopefully) driving her own.

I forget the model, but I have a pair of Sidi's that I love. Have worn all day like street boots, no issues, nice and comfortable for riding, easy on/off with zipper and velcro, good tread for stop signs...probably about 5 years old now, no leaks, no tears, no pulled seams. Very happy.

This looks like the current version of mine:

I was looking for a pair of brown motorcycle boots before Christmas. Although these are not marketed as "motorcycle boots" if you read the specifications, it sure looks like it was made with touring riders in mind. My wife bought me a pair and right now they are my FAVORITE pair of boots. Check them out:

By the way, for something that looks more like a motorcycle boot (but I still wear them in the office) there are the Aerostich Combat Lite boots. Mine are on their second pair of soles and I've had them for YEARS. Also "all-day comfortable" for riding and walking around.

With most of the boot hidden by your pants legs, these work just fine in an office:

Something that looks a little less like motorcycle boot and more like a regular boot. Probably a mid height. I was looking at some of the designs at https://www.milwaukeemotorcycleclothing.com/boots/ mens/riding-boots

But not sure yet. I know some of the Harley branded boots are decent, but not really into living the lifestyle. And they are normally about twice the price of a similar other model shoe.

This one might be it https://www.milwaukeemotorcycleclothing.com/boots/ mens/riding-boots/outlaw

I like the Ranger as well, but the zipper on the inside is going to scratch too many things. if the zipper was on the outside I might go with them.

I've had several pairs of these over the years. They're pretty comfortable:

But will a non-motorcycle boot have the protective features we should be looking for? Not sure that the Milwaukee even have those features other than made out of leather. And after an hour of searching, still can't find where the stupid things are made.

I meant to update MY RIDING BOOTS in 2004 . . . but, I'm still using them. They are Gaerne.

I have 2 pairs of Red Wings that I wear for work and I love them . . . but, they only last about 20 years.

What's important in a boot for you? What features are deal breakers? You mentioned country of manufacture. What else do you want in a boot?

A boot that's ideal for road racing would be wrong for motocross. I can tell you what boots I've liked over the years, but my parameters might be very different from yours. Also, a boot that I find all day comfortable, you may hate. Choosing boots is like choosing tires. Everybody has their favorites.

Keeping that in mind, I'll tell you the boots I've really liked over the years.

At present, my choice of riding boots is a pair of Chippewa Rally boots. They are extremely comfortable for all day riding. Unless it's raining. They're not waterproof, and make no claim as being so. They're made in the USA of top quality leather and they have very durable soles and heels. For me, they're not the most comfortable boots for all day walking around, but for all day riding, they're the bomb. They were expensive, but Quality always is.

For several years, I wore Prexport boots. They were made in Italy and were all day comfortable for everything; riding, walking, whatever. The only problem was that they wore out fairly quickly. After the importer went out of business, I looked around and finally settled on the Thorogood boots I posted the link to. My job required safety toe boots, and the Thorogoods clicked all the right buttons for me. They were very comfortable for wearing all day long; whether I was riding on the Interstate for 12 hours, or if I spent all day assembling large Capital equipment standing on a concrete factory floor. They also lasted twice as long as the Prexports did while costing half or less the price.

Right now, I think my next pair of motorcycle specific boots will be a pair of TCX Fuel Waterproof boots. While I really like the quality, durability look and feel of the Rally boots, the Rallys just aren't waterproof. The Fuel boots hit all the right buttons for me. They're expensive; but my feet are worth it.

Here's a link : http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/boots/waterpr oof_sport_street_touring_boots/tcx/fuel_waterproof _boots.html

Good luck in your search and let us know what you finally decide on.

+1 On the Redwings. For almost twenty-five years, currently on my fourth set of workboots. Only had one issue like the first guy in the reviews.
http://redwingshoes.com/red-wing-shoe/2412-red-win g-shoes/2412-red-wing-mens-8-inch-boot-brown
And it wasn't me. It was my boss. I've come home at the end of the day and not wanted to take them off. They feel that good, like they've become part of your foot.

When I was "a real Lineman" I used to wear the WESCO boots.

If you want to have a lot of fun . . . go on their website and build yourself as set of boots.

Here's where I start my custom build . . .

These are my riding boots. Totally comfortable and I'm able to wear these all day at work, no problem. Not sure why they are showing them to be $160, I'm pretty sure I paid about $70 for them.

You rarely (if EVER) pay the advertised price at Cycle Gear. They are ALWAYS having sales on SOMETHING.

Watch carefully when buying Red Wings . . . make sure you get AMERICAN MADE Red Wings . . not Worx, or one of the other Chinese built brands.

Unless . . . that is what you want. Frankly, some of them are pretty darn good now.

Back in 1995, I had a pair of custom built Engineer Boots made for me by Wesco. I was still wearing them daily in 1997 when my ankle got crushed. (I wasn't wearing them at the time; I was wearing Miner's boots) The Wescos were barely broken in after being worn daily for over two years.

In the two years I wore them, those boots traveled over most of the eastern USA, four Australian states, and they were on my feet when I took an S2-T out for a Demo ride in Daytona and fell in love. I wore them through rain, snow and temps over 100º F. They were barely broken in. Damn' good boots.

Hahahahaha . . . I just went to my "local" hardware store to pick up some hardware and wiring devices for the barn. Sure enough . . they have a COMPLETE Carhart and Red Wing section and you can buy about anything made by Chart or Red Wing.

I thought I'd hit the motherlode finding this place, with a barn, ensconced among all these great BBQ joints . . . turns out we also have one of the world's best hardware stores.

From what I understand it to be, Irish setters now owned by Red Wing are all made in China, however not all Red Wings are made in China, some are made here.

I'd rather buy biker boots of a good quality, they are designed for what we do with protection in the right places, at least I hope this to be true.

I absolutely agree . . . I have never, with rare exceptions, worn work boots to ride.

They are, as you assert, designed to provide quite different qualities.

It may be nice to have a motorcycle boot that was comfy for wear during the day . . but I'd never look to a work boot to perform in a motorcycling role.

Good point . . .

Court if you're looking for all day comfort, take a look at the boots I posted above. I never have to take an extra pair of shoes with me to work anymore. I can wear those Bilt boots all day and not be uncomfortable at all.

Those Bilt boots are going to deserve some attention when I get out of work.

I have good leather hiking boots that I've used for years on motorcycles, but they aren't as comfortable on the bike as a real motorcycle boot, but nice when you get off and have to work or walking around. Might just have to do a two boot method, but still want to look for something reasonable to walk around on between stops. Lots of looking still to do.

The parts I'd really like are reinforced and padded ankle to hopefully help prevent a break if I crash. The toe box is normally plenty strong. I don't want soles so grippy that they catch in a slide, but not so slippery that I can't hold up the 900 pound monster.
