So I was working in the woods today, cutting some of the trees that were downed about 15 months ago in a storm. Parked the truck up hill of where I was going to be working, and walked down the trail to make some firewood. I was actually walking back up hill to the truck when I heard branches snapping above my head. I looked up to see a big ole tree, that had been leaning for 15 months, making it's way down. I took of running down the hill to safety. I had time to get my phone out and snap a shot while it was on the way down. It was moving kind of slowly, snapping everything in it's path.

It probably took a full minute for the tree to settle in it's new position. I knew I had parked far enough away, just in case, but come on... This tree hasn't moved for 15 months now! Well, it also took a smaller tree with it, that was right in front of the truck. That one almost got me! Here's what it looked like when all the crashing and snapping was over.

Here's one that shows another perspective, and how close I came to having a crunched front end.

Pretty freaky having that happen just as you are walking underneath. I was purposefully staying away from working on that tree, or those holding it up. I guess it just got tired of standing there.

At least I have plenty of firewood!

That's why they call them widow maker's! Yes, you are lucky, say a nice thank you prayer.

Beautiful bit of property, by the way.

Thanks Jeff. It's a real mess right now, with the downed trees, and half downed trees, but it really is a wonderful bit of land. So much so that the government has designs on claiming it for themselves.

I learned to drive stick on the previous generation Sonoma, then my little brother bought that generation of S10 for his first vehicle. Good memories.

I miss splitting wood. The best way to keep warm in the winter. The house I'm currently renting has a fireplace, I need to get on finding a couple ricks of wood.
