If Columbus hadn't discovered the Americas, none of this rioting nonsense would have happened either.

We cannot go back in time to change our mistakes, we have to learn from them and move on, but never forget.

Making comments like sending them back, while it can be argued as philosophy or a bad joke, does not help, adds no substance to the narrative and does sound bad on it's face.

I have never understood the rioting and looting thought pattern. If someone feels you are a violent, neighbor killing robber, why would you prove it for them?

I am all for the mentality: "Looters will be shot on sight". Remember the Rodney King Riots? One of the few shops in town that didn't get looted or torched was a store being protected by it's owners with guns.

FvB: Their crime is the genesis of the problem.

That's bullshit.

I have plenty of REAL Africans working for me. In their own lifetimes, not someone else's, they have literally fled from the tyranny of warlords who enslaved people from their villages, raped their children, and hacked off the limbs of those who opposed them.

They didn't come over here blaming anybody for their problems. They came here and started working on ways to bring more of their family members over here. They pay taxes, they work their asses off, and are polite and respectful to everybody they meet.

Most of all, they shake their heads in disbelief at what's going on in Charlotte right now, and at other similar situations.

It is time for these American Blacks who play the victim role to let it go, and get on with their lives. They need to OPEN their eyes and see what's really going on.

The Black people in the room with me right now all agree with me. We're all standing here discussing this exact subject. Two white guys, two black guys, one Columbian... and somehow we are all agreeing about this.

My African drivers as they come in and out of here today, are talking about it as well, and they're all saying the same as we are.

GET OVER YOURSELVES AND WORK FOR A LIVING. ALL THE OTHER PROBLEMS SORT THEMSELVES OUT.

Hootowl, in the spirit of fairness I wished to clarify Figor's comment for those that misconstrued his statement to mean blacks should be sent to Africa in the present. Your comment, "The vast majority of slaves were, at the end of the war, not first generation, and had to country to return to. " is spot on and is one of the reasons why there was no organized effort to repatriate ex-slaves.

Edit: I wrote this when airbozos post was the last post, speaking of the shop that wasn't looted because the owners stood fast.

And I'm afraid that's what it will take.

A strong stand.

A stand against this bullshit. A grass-roots display that this is not acceptable. That it will not be tolerated.

Not cops. Not government. PEOPLE. Normal folk need to stand up and make it clear. Nonviolence. But firm.

The same can be said of our politicians and political system - the same ol' bullshit will no longer be tolerated.}

Get the latest- I turned on NPR radio on the way home today. The lead story this afternoon was announced as (paraphrasing) "Charlotte braces for another night of violence" (quoting) "over the shooting of an unarmed black man by police". A minute or two later they played audio from the (black) Charlotte police chief stating that he'd seen the video and that it was not clear to him if the man was pointing the gun or not. In other words, the video clearly shows the man had a gun, it's not yet clear if he was pointing it at the police officers or not.

Leave it to government-funded radio to skew the facts.

So, you don't see any cause and effect? Slavery has no lasting legacy? Your African co-workers are just that - AFRICANS. They don't have a history with slavery in America. They don't have any history with America at all. I get it, past sins don't excuse the bad behavior we see coming out of the black community on a nightly basis but what if slavery had never occurred wouldn't the native blacks be more like the African blacks in their thinking and behavior?

America wasn't the only country that had black slaves. (For that matter not all slaves in America were black.)

Why aren't the ex - slaves in other countries rioting?

And how many generations does it take for former slaves to get over it? It's been over 150 years since the Emancipation Proclamation.

No, I don't see the cause and effect. For me to see that, I would have to see people who were affected in their own lives by slavery.

No such person is alive today.

Ergo, bullshit.

The Africans I refer to now call themselves Americans who came from Africa.

Blacks have no more connection to slavery than I have to the slave masters of old.

GET OVER YOURSELVES AND WORK FOR A LIVING

Have you ever watched "The Wire"? Living in the suburbs of Baltimore and having spent a significant amount of time within the city people have occasionally asked me if that TV show is an accurate portrayal of parts of Baltimore. My answer, "it's worse than that". They can't even conceive The Wire is an accurate portrayal, let alone, it being worse than that. The fact is, unless you've seen it up close and personal you're going to make statements such as yours, Pwnzor because you and many others aren't familiar with nor can they conceive of the inner city ghetto feral Negro. There are NO Ben Carson's among them. There are no Dr. Sylvester Gate's, in waiting, if only given the chance. That's not to say great people can't come from the ghetto but the people you see looting and jumping on Police cars are never going to be employable. Their lives were ruined long ago. A tiny minority might find redemption but the vast majority are never going to be anything but a blight on society.

This is true but the problem doesn't begin and end with slavery. As I said, slavery was the genesis (beginning) of the problem. When the slaves were freed they were left to their own devices. There were no social programs in those days. Racism was still very much alive. The KKK, Jim Crow laws, etc.etc. Fast forward to the 1960's and the creation of the welfare state thus destroying the black family ( something, by the way, that is happening to the white family , too) and you end up where we are, today - a total cluster f***

...but what if slavery had never occurred wouldn't the native blacks be more like the African blacks in their thinking and behavior?

Well, sure, they'd be willing immigrants coming here legally, who want to participate in the American Dream.

But you might not have enough historical context. Who sold the slaves? If you saw Roots, the early part in Africa was total fiction. The slaves were sold to the ( Mostly ) English slave traders by Arab slave traders. No one went ashore and chased people, that'd get you killed. The Arabs bought them from the local tribes. Mostly, the local tribes went out and captured Other tribes people to sell for slaves, seldom, they'd sell their own people to keep any rebellion down. ( you mess with the Boss, you go away... and killing you is too much work and doesn't make a profit... Selling you to the Arabs does, so shut up and behave )

All in the past.

Are there some bad cops? Sure. There are a few Boss Hogs out there and a tiny number of really racist jerks who get jobs in local PD's.

Are most of the cops shoot citizen actions righteous? Was it self defense? Yes, no doubt at all. VAST majority. Are there a few bad shoots? Yes. And they just indicted a cop for what may be a hasty, bad judgment shoot. That's as it should be.

If a community is to trust it's police the police must obey the same laws. Not above, or immune, but one of us. ( As opposed to a Clinton, or a Chavez, above the law by virtue of Power )

Best way to put HOW the Social Contract is supposed to work is "On Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs" By LTC (RET) Dave Grossman

http://mwkworks.com/onsheepwolvesandsheepdogs.html

The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, can not and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheep dog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours.

Still, the sheepdog disturbs the sheep. He is a constant reminder that there are wolves in the land. They would prefer that he didn't tell them where to go, or give them traffic tickets, or stand at the ready in our airports in camouflage fatigues holding an M-16. The sheep would much rather have the sheepdog cash in his fangs, spray paint himself white, and go, "Baa."

Until the wolf shows up. Then the entire flock tries desperately to hide behind one lonely sheepdog.

However, the rioting in Charlotte and elsewhere has NOTHING to do with slavery.... or to put it another way has EVERYTHING to do with slavery.

When the South lost The Civil War the people in charge of the Confederacy turned right around and created the Action Arm of the Democrat Party, the KKK. And spent the next hundred years passing laws to keep the former slaves under their thumb.

The politicians who wrote the Welfare State laws punishing people for getting married or having a part time job, they sold that as warm hearted humanity, but the results are anything but. And since the same people that voted against Blacks having equal rights are the people that voted to put them on the New Plantation with "free" handouts... You can simply assume the racism was intentional.

Today, there is rioting because it's a great strategy to win for evil men & women. It not only reinforces the stereotype pushed by the Democrat Party, that Black's are not responsible.( one they've pushed since they were complaining how lazy their slaves were, and that proved they weren't the equal of White Men. ) It also allows the pundits and politicians to blame the violence on... whatever and whoever they choose to that day.

Now, I'm no fan of the Republicans either. Locally, the City is Democrat & the County is Republican. I can't see a lick of difference between them on corruption and giving high paying barely have to show up jobs for relatives and "donors".

But the City Schools have a horrible reputation, well earned, with a less than 50% graduation rate. The Suburban schools are quite good. You can blame only half of that on the Party that rules that area, the other half is the Culture that that same Party encourages.

And has done so for a century.

There is way more to this problem than just cops shooting people or the reaction by some to these shootings. Deep cultural and societal problems. So many avenues of discussion it can make your head spin. A few off the top of my head - the media. Deindustrialization and globalization. Welfare system. Criminal justice system. Educational system. Morality and ethics. Culture

No it won't be. A good rule of thumb though. When you are living off of someone else, don't purposely do things that cost them more money. The tax payers now have to chose between paying for their food and housing, or paying for new police cars to try to keep them safe. It's unlikely that they will want to fund both 100% with this crap going on.

Why doesn't Great Britain get the blame for slavery in the new world? They were in charge when all of this started. I guess that's a lot of history for some to wrap their heads around. It also doesn't fit their agenda. Sadly, that same agenda keeps them enslaved.

You have to remember that Great Britain outlawed Slavery a few years before we did. So they got to be holier than thou about it.

While supporting it to make money. They ( and Other Europeans ) imported it a lot of places and kept making money on it long after they pretended to wash their hands of blood.

The Civil war was in large part paid for by England. Cotton. That wasn't accidental. They deliberately propped up Slavery in the U.S. to make a bigger profit. See also Egyptian Cotton and the economic forces of the time.

I would suggest dumping the clowns in the Atlantic.
It's one thing to be caught up in a moment.
It's a whole other thing to go to where a "moment" might happen in the hopes of being caught up in one.

Meanwhile, in Charlotte, a black man is arrested for killing a black man at a protest for the killing of another black man by a different black man.

Because, you know, black lives matter...

I am happy to see manslaughter charges were pressed against the officer who appeared to shoot a non compliant but also non threatening man during a traffic stop.

I suspect she grabbed her side arm instead of her tazer, and murdered when she meant to subdue. But who knows what was going through her head?

I read her account of the incident last night. It's worth a read. It was certainly a very strange situation, and it's hard to see how she could possibly have been justified, but that's why they have jury trials.
