Try running a shop and having your 'sales rep' not know shit... I need a single spark plug for my riding mower. Nightmare. I gave them the part number off the old one. No idea how it got screwed up.

I'm in the process of shuttering the shop, but I've been ordering all my non-'shit needs done now' stuff online. I save money, I get the right parts.

I went to my local Pep Boys (the worst) to get exhaust gaskets for my '82 GMC. I put one on the counter and said "I need a set of these". The guy was well past 40 but he said (drum roll) "What make, model and year", and I said "It's a Chevy small block". He said, "I know, but what make model and year". I kept saying it was a Chevy small block. Eventually it turned out he didn't even know they were exhaust gaskets. Finally the young girl behind the counter straightened him out. Then we started the same routine with the spark plugs. I just wanted 8 plugs like the one I showed him. Man was that frustrating.

And ... the most fun you can have in the parts store is to tell the kid behind the counter that you want a radiator cap for a '66 Volkswagen. They will go look for it every time. Not really fair but it is fun.

Right up there with a water pump for a Corvair!

Here's a fun one to play with the parts stores
Call them and say you need a water pump gasket for a 1997 Toyota Tacoma. Say you were in another store earlier and were given the wrong one and you want then to be sure they have the right one. Ask them to describe it to you. You'll never get a bad answer

gasket

Well, picked up a low mileage 318LA from a 68 Fury, from a local guy who replaced it with a 440.

It's transplant time.

Oh and he also gave me a 4 barrel intake from a 340. Only things missing are exhaust manifolds.

Does that intake have an exhaust heater bypass port?
My 1977 318 from a van had one and it was absolutely important to keeping the carb from icing up.
Mine was clogged with charcoal.
