With the current atmosphere of our boys in blue being executed, BLM/The New Black Panthers threatening to kill white people, etc., I'm reconsidering my CCW routine.

I started out with my Keltec P32 in a pocket holster many moons ago. I figured a small pocket pistol is better than a full-size at home or a pointy stick. I would also carry an XD Subcompact if I couldn't avoid a rough area.

Last year, I went with the Ruger LCP Crimson Trace in a pocket holster/Glock 43 IWB. I carry reloads for both.

I'm feeling a little under gunned.

It's summer. Subcompact. I like but don't have...yet, the Ruger LC9.

It depends on body shape & dress.

I'm apple shaped & carry too much fat. Working on it but I don't have the build to carry a model 29 in a shoulder holster even in a suit. Young Clint Eastwood could, the suit drapes better on a slender guy with broad shoulders. I got the shoulders but not the drape.

Tac pants that look like khakis with suspended pockets work great for me with pocket carry. Hard to run a full size pistol that way. ( for me anyway )

Fishing vests or canny packs are glaring tells in my area. I am seriously considering going steam punk with fancy buckled vest & pants, Airship mechanic style.

Purloined letter technique.

Cosplay attracts attention but you don't think they're packing a Commander. I know a girl that goes clubbing in neo-victorian skirts. Poofy multi layer with clips to hold the floor length skirts to knee high. ( adjustable )
Thigh holsters. Serious garters on that lady. Top with a brocade vest/bustier & NO ONE is looking for a gun. Nickle plate pearl handle.... PPKs or S&W snubby, usually. Wears a Glock to work.

Not a good option for me unless I start wearing kilts all the time. But you have to dress idiosyncratic all the time to get away with it. Not just so folk get used to it, so you get used to wearing it like it's normal.

Ditto any holster & especially ankle holsters. Practice walking a lot before going out.

My wife used to carry in thigh holsters. At the range they called her thrill em and kill em.

I've never been able to figure out if my FNX .40 (double stack 13 round, 4" barrel) is considered compact or full size, but it's my daily carry. I've tried on a few of these true compacts and subcompacts and I hate them.

Ankle holsters sound like a terrible idea. Chances are, if you need a pistol, you need it now. Plus, I know a drop-leg holster is absolutely attrocious if you do any amount of walking, running, getting in/out of vehicles, etc. I imagine an ankle holster would be 3x worse, plus the additional time required to stop, squat, lift up your pant leg, and then decide if you want to fire from a squatting or standing position.

I carry at the 4'oclock position, but I know that is no longer recommended by many agencies. The appendix carry knocks something like 1 full second off your draw time, which could mean the difference between life and death. I need to switch, I'm just comfortable and stuck in my ways.

And besides it's cheaper.

It's not the Aborigines we are worried about.

It's those pesky local wealth redistribution fellows, ( Muggers ) and the Planetary Jihad. No one here cares a bit what the skin tome is on either.

The NRA pretty much got started teaching marksmanship and safety to folk in Black Churches after the Civil War. They needed protection against the action arm of the Democrat Party, the Klan.

Since most "news" folk are Dems, and the Dems have hated the NRA for 144 years, and been against anyone but their minions being armed for even longer, what you see on tv.... is probably wrong.

#############

Torquehd, ankle holsters only shine for a couple of things. While driving a car, and as the last ditch effort weapon. Draw is slow as heck starting from a standing position, is a very large body movement, so not so subtle eh? But when you are down on the ground in a fetal position behind cover, like a car's tire, it's possibly an easier draw than appendix.

4 o'clock? Is it aimed at the family jewels?

Fastest draw is a gunslinger/tac holster outside the clothes and tied down to the leg. Not an option for concealed carry.

Actually, IMHO, the "fastest" is the pure competition holsters used in IPPC etc. The pistol just perches on 3 point of contact... not a real world system at all. Even a Mexican Slide holster is more secure.

Pocket carry is relatively slow too, but If it's a quick draw competition, it's bad times anyway. A discreet and reasonable speed draw is a must for civilian carry.

If your clothing lets you carry discreetly on the belt, great. I just haven't found the right combo for my body and style.

Pocket carry, IWB, OWB, shoulder carry; compact, sub-compact, full-size. Doesn't matter as long as you have a comfortable enough holster that you carry every time you are away from home. Find what works best for YOU.

I'm currently using a Kimber MicroCarry 380 in a sticky pocket holster. Yeah, I wish it was a 45, but it fits in my pocket and I can carry it with any of my pants or shorts. I have some IWB and OWB holsters that I sometimes use when I want to tote something more substantial. Not as comfortable, but lets me carry more firepower.

Great gun, and probably OK for winter carry, but a lot to carry for summer. The thing is big and heavy. And truth be told, the .357 from that gun actually isn't very uncomfortable to shoot, even for smaller people.

I still like a LC9 or P3AT (.380, which is basically 9mm short) in a Nemesis pocket holster for convenience and flexibility.

"I'm currently using a Kimber MicroCarry 380"

"Breathe some new life into your .380"

Both of those are my daily carry, IWB. Basically invisible.

Something is better than nothing.

All three are good. It really depends on the dress and activity.

The new racial divisiveness is unfortunately largely fabricated and engineered. We have folks that follow the media and our corrupt leadership like sheep.

It's a lot of risk for a small political gain. Disgusting, really.

I judge people on their individual actions, character, and demeanor. The popular news and our current leaders are full of it. One looks for ratings while the other panders for votes. It's bordering on criminal what they've accomplished together.

No one gun will do it all. My main carry is a Glock 26 in a De Santis Inside Heat Holster. Depending on dress I also still carry my Keltec P32 in a De Santis Nemesis pocket holster. I also plan to get a the Sig 938 to also be carried in a Nemesis.

One of the things I've come to understand you have to think of it as a self defense system, not just a gun. It's gun, holster, ammunition and training.

This is solely on you!
What I carry, and what I suggest that you carry, is probably not the best handgun for you.

My suggestion for a carry gun...the smallest reliable handgun that you can shoot well, and you are comfortable with the capacity, fit, weight, size, caliber, etc..

Not all SP101's are big and heavy.

This one (model 5720) weighs in at 25 ounces.

I have been carrying mouse guns forever. I Had an AMT Backup in 380, but when the Keltec 3AT came out I switched up. In the meantime I bought a couple of Tauraus 380 pistols and thought they were a little bulky for what they are supposed to be, the trigger guard was too wide. I bought a Ruger 380 and really liked it even more than my KelTec. I have a friend that really liked the Ruger also, however he can't afford one yet, so I gave him my Ruger yesterday. He really needs it for where he goes for work and now I am back carrying the KelTec again.
I also carry a 9mm KelTecP-11 when I go out with the family, but the 380 is one that goes with me all the time now...

I'm telling you, check the stats on that Underwood ammo in .380

It puts the .380 on deck with bigger guns

I'll pick up a box of that stuff next time I see it. I'm watching to see if it stands the test of time, there have been a lot of astroturf and smoke and mirror campaigns in the "fancy bullet" space.

There are a number of makers of this stuff now.

That looks pretty objective. And matches another objective video I dug up previously.

The first video I found was a guy that was focused on preventing over penetration. This second video was by a guy that was focused on preventing under penetration.

Interestingly, this round seems to be the standout choice of both people.

It does make you wonder why people haven't worked this kind of stuff out before. It's not like people weren't playing with bullet shapes for the past 100 years.
