China is rolling out a nationwide system of social control known as “grid management” in a revival of state presence in residential life that had receded as society liberalised during recent decades.

From smog-blanketed towns on the North China Plain to the politically sensitive Tibetan capital of Lhasa, small police booths and networks of citizens have been set up block by block to reduce neighbourhood disputes, enforce sanitation, reduce crime — and keep an eye on anyone deemed a troublemaker.

The rollout coincides with a broader tightening of state control over civil society and crackdown on dissent under President Xi Jinping.

“The grid management system is an attempt by the authorities to re-establish its control over individuals,” said Li Dun, an expert in public management at Tsinghua University in Beijing. “The aim is to reinstate the idea of upholding the party’s leadership.”

An earlier system of neighbourhood committees, which monitored every urban citizen, has declined since the mid-1990s as private housing became more common and social controls faded. “Grid management” also harks back to the baojia system of the ancient Chinese dynasties, when groups of neighbours were responsible for mutually enforcing proper behaviour.

During a recent journalists’ tour of Lhasa, officials credited grid management for the calm and order in the city. The mass troop deployment that followed a 2008 riot was no longer visible, although local residents said the heavy security presence was reinstated during Tibetan holidays or sensitive anniversaries.

As well as small police booths that stud residential blocks in Lhasa, there are police booths at the entrance to villages around the city, as well as much larger checkpoints set up like tollbooths on the roads leading into larger towns.

“The masses manage themselves and serve themselves, this is a Chinese characteristic,” said Qi Zhala, Lhasa’s party secretary.

This is the kind of paradise yearned for by Obama. A land where there are few pesky restraints on the Glorious Leader's desires for..... anything.

The undead are like that.

Bernie is rumored to have skipped out on the check at the last supper. Nonsense, of course. He didn't know they were splitting the check, he just assumed the rich were going to pay.

The insurance bookies also spent a LOT on bribes to Obama to be sure they'd make out when the no preexisting conditions rule kicked in. A rule I wholeheartedly agree with, btw. To cover the extra costs of that rule Barack gave them a law making paying for insurance mandatory.

Then justice Roberts ruled that Barack Obama lied to you repeatedly and the fines for not buying insurance were, yes, in fact taxes, and Congress can tax you.

Even when they lie to you about it.

The morality of Congress telling you you must buy anything they tell you to at gun point...... is painted over with the primer of "taxes".

Don't forget that the Dems used "reconciliation" to pass O'care because they didn't have a 60 vote majority to stop a GOP filibuster.

As I point out..... frequently, Bernie's shtick is essentially the same as used, for over a century, by the worst mass murderers in history.

Free stuff. Hate the rich. Lie about taking from the rich to pay for free stuff.

Followed by stealing the wealth of everyone and ruling with terror, murder, and total contempt for the rule of law.

Bernie is either too ignorant to know this..... or evil enough not to care.

I can't tell what's in his heart. But when a man puts on a white sheet and burns crosses on the lawns of black people while waving a noose, I don't care.

Hillary, otoh, I can guess with accuracy. Remember the seagulls in "Finding Nemo"? That with malice.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/denmar k-a-social-welfare-utopia-takes-a-nasty-turn-on-re fugees/2016/04/11/a652e298-f5d1-11e5-958d-d038dac6 e718_story.html

This Scandinavian nation of compulsively friendly people is celebrated by U.S. presidential candidate Bernie Sanders as a social-welfare utopia, one that was recently judged the world’s happiest place. Ranking high in the country’s pantheon of heroes are those who protected Jews during the Holocaust or who helped the oppressed escape from behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War.

........

oulsen, who at 26 is Parliament’s third-youngest member, has helped push the country’s weak center-right government to take a less-forgiving line on asylum seekers since the once-fringe DPP surged to second place in elections in June.

The number of refugees taken in by Denmark, he said, should be “as close to zero as possible.” The alternative, in Poulsen’s view, is the end of everything Danes hold dear — including low crime rates and high-quality government services. Welcoming Syrians, Iraqis, Afghans and others fleeing war, he said, is just too burdensome.

“This country is falling apart,” said Poulsen, who is slim, blond and self-assured. “We used to have a safe, monocultural society. Now our welfare state is under huge pressure.”

The notion that Denmark can’t adequately look out for its own if it is also giving sanctuary to asylum seekers has found wide appeal here. Anti-refugee positions once considered extreme are now embraced by a broad cross section of the country’s politicians.

The hardening of public attitudes has been underway for at least a decade. But a key turning point in popular opinion may have been that day last September when asylum seekers took to the highways to walk.

Many had been blocked a week earlier from leaving Hungary, leading to a bulge in numbers on the migrant trail.

When they arrived in Denmark, on Sept. 7, they were initially barred from using public transportation unless they agreed to be registered — something few were willing to do because they wanted to travel onward to more hospitable destinations, especially Sweden.

When Danes turned on their televisions that day, they saw highways clogged with people in need.

“That was an eye-opener for many Danes,” said Kasper Moller Hansen, a University of Copenhagen political scientist. “They thought, ‘Wow, that’s a lot of people. We can’t help all of them.’ ”

.......

Worth a read. This is Barry's Wars effect on the Utopia that Bernie wants to give us.

That Utopia is falling apart with the influx of foreign refugees who immediately go on public assistance, because there simply aren't enough jobs for them. If a thousand new people moved into your town, how fast would they get jobs? If they didn't speak your language?

I'm first to admire the intelligent social programs of Scandahoovian nations... high taxes, yes, but I live in NY and pay nearly as high for far less.... FOR A REASON. My Federal taxes support NATO. My taxes pay for the U.S. Military, and those have taken a major part of the burden of defending European nations against the Soviet... and now Russian Empire, threat.

Those utopias existed during a Golden Age, now disappearing in the rear view mirror, when America was the Defender of Freedom. With the Jihad, and the neo-fascist Regime of Obama, which does NOT support Freedom in Europe, those days are gone.

Would President Bernie go back to a commitment to a Secure Europe? Would he strengthen NATO to restrict the probable advance of the Russian Empire? Seriously?

Would President Hillary strengthen NATO? ( I suppose it depends on the size of the Bribe )

Of course Hillary pays her women staffers less.... So does Obama.

The more they complain about other's failings, the more they deflect attention away from their own. Point the Mob at your enemy. It's an old tactic, and it still works.

Convicted Sexual Predator And 'LGBT Activist' Behind Failed Local Measure For Gender-Neutral Bathrooms

quote:

A proposed municipal “nondiscrimination ordinance” ordinance in Charlotte, North Carolina, failed by a narrow margin of 6-5 in a city council vote following revelations that one of its chief proponents is a convicted child molester. In an attempt to mandate bathrooms - both publicly and privately owned - to be made open to all persons irrespective of sex or age, the "LGBT nondiscrimination ordinance" was being championed by a homosexual convicted child molester. A local left-wing newspaper, The Charlotte Observer, purposely failed to report this fact in order to assist agitation efforts to pass the regulation.

Although a "cause" that seems to be, shall we say? Perverted..... and certainly championed by a tiny minority, the issue of which bathroom one uses is not a minor one for some people. Not a lot of folk, a fraction of a percent, but still a thing worth understanding and discussion.

My knee-jerk reaction is to ignore sex. Don't care what your preference in partners is. And "gender" is a word without real meaning in today's American argument.

So. Plumbing. It's a plumbing issue for the vast majority. Sitters and pointers. Most pointer bathrooms also have sitter equipment. Almost no sitter bathrooms have pointer equipment.

If your plumbing is pointer, go to the pointer bathroom.
If your plumbing is sitter, go to the sitter bathroom.

If you have a mental/emotional reason to feel uncomfortable going to plumbing matching restrooms, you have a problem. The question is can we solve your problem with education of the unwashed masses? Or are you going to demand accommodation for what a few short years ago would be a mental illness?

What is not acceptable is the problem, almost exclusively male, of predators going into their obsession restrooms to watch or rape.

If a guy is hanging out in the guy's room that's a "normal" thing and should be dealt with with normal rules of courtesy and decorum. ( full disclosure, my attitude on such is, if I caught that PA coach in the locker room with a child, I would be arrested, and the coach hospitalized. )

If a guy wants to hang out in the girl's room, arrest is the least of his problems, if a real man or women is present.

How to handle the few sexually different is something that needs discussion, not Bruce Springsteen being a self righteous jerk.

The only real connection between this subject and the D Party is the D Party has been utterly co-opted by the "destroy all western civilization" branch of KGB sponsored comintern.

That doesn't change the need to be understanding to those with serious sex issues. Some will require kindness and accommodation. Others will need a dope slap. Some ( predators who cross the line "consenting adults" ) need to be removed from society.
