Best to ignore facts and make an emotional decision.

I have a feeling it's going to be a long four years.

Hybrid is sounding very childish. Boogers?

Did Trump say that?

Now is the time to declare who you like and don't. I respect Hybrid's right to choose a guy I don't. ... but I'll vote for his guy if he wins. I'm not going to just cry in my beer and let Hillary win.

That's how Barack won, twice, and more people are out of work each year. Genocide rules wherever Obama has supported the bad guys.

Feel free to tell us the virtues of your favorite. I respect that. Might argue but that's life.

People who get stupid fanboy angry need to focus.

The simple fact that this can be a real question about a Presidential candidate makes this entire election kind of surreal.

Of the candidates, Cruz is easily the choice that agrees most with what I believe. Trump has no firm stance on anything, which only makes him (like Schrodinger's cat) simultaneously better and worse than the socialist and the criminal.

VOTE AS YOU WISH, AND LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT TRUMP - - A personal note from Peter Ticktin who knows the guy from high school:

As a law firm, we at The Ticktin Law Group do not like to get involved in politics. As soon as we endorse one side, we risk alienating everyone on the other side. Also, our lawyers and staff are, themselves, on both sides. Politics is not our game. However, Justice is!

If you saw a guy get publicly smeared, and you knew him well from the days you were friends and seniors together in high school, if you knew him to be a decent and honest man, would you want to say something? This is why I need to share what I know.

I was aghast at watching last night's debate. It was a set-up. The moderators, Cruz, and Rubio were all like little alligators trying to take a bite out of Trump. Yes, Donald Trump has had some failures, but he has been exceedingly successful. None of this came out. Instead, there was a general attack. Rubio simply makes up lies. He pretends that Trump has small hands and makes fun of him for something which isn't even real. He pretends that Donald wets his pants, and makes fun of him, as though it was true, and then he calls Donald Trump a "Bully."

I am not suggesting that you should vote or not vote for anyone. I just need to defend a former friend who is being smeared.

Like Donald Trump, I attended New York Military Academy ("NYMA") for high school. In fact, in our senior year, together, Donald was my captain, and I was his 1st Platoon Sergeant. I sometimes joke that I ran his first company for him, Company "A."

People don't really change much from the ages of 17 and 18, and I know this guy. I know him to be a good decent guy. We lived and breathed an Honor Code in those years. It wasn't just a rule. It was our way of life. Neither Donald, nor any other cadet who graduated with us would ever lie, cheat, or steal from a fellow cadet. These values became irreversibly intertwined in the fabric of our personalities, of who we are.

Of the 99 guys (no girls in those days) in our class, there is not one who I know who has a bad word to say about Donald Trump. Think of it. With all the jealousies which arise in high school and thereafter, with all the potential envy, not one of us has anything other than positive memories of this man. How could we? He was an "A" student, a top athlete, and as a leader, he was highly respected. We never feared him, yet we never wanted to disappoint him. He had our respect. He was never a bigot in any way, shape or form. He only hates those who hate. Of course he denounces the KKK.

As to the discussion with the New York Times, it is his choice to release the 'off the record' remarks. However, if he does, it opens the door for all political opposition to make that demand for everyone, and that means that our press will never get those 'off the record' remarks which help them to understand the realities of the campaign. Moreover, the idea that Donald Trump confessed some alternate theory of his position is preposterous. Can anyone believe that all those NY Times reporters are walking around knowing some deep dark nasty secret about a guy who is seeking an endorsement?

The Republican establishment is afraid of Donald Trump. Why? They are afraid that he will lose to Hillary. They don't hate Donald. They hate her. They are so fearful that they fail to see that by expanding the base of voters for Trump, he is more likely to win.

Watching the chorus of whiners, decriers, denigrators, and self-righteous put-down experts from so many directions, from Mit Romney, to Megyn Kelly, Little Mario, it has to make you wonder. Why? Why are so many people so angry with Donald Trump, that they are lying, name calling, ridiculing, and demeaning him as they do. Either they are afraid, or they know him to be evil.

This is why I feel the need to speak out at this time. I know this man. He is a lot of things, but he is not evil. He is a decent honest guy who loves this country, and who is willing to sacrifice so much of what is left of his life, because he knows that this country needs to be fixed, and that it is going to require someone who can do the job. He just doesn't see anything around him other than political hacks, so he is willing to take this huge responsibility.

I'm not saying that he is the only one who can do the job. My point is simply as to his motivation and his goodness.

This next decade is going to be one of major changes. We all see the climate changing, and the world food supply is getting lower. Our fish stock around the world is running low. Oil prices will cause countries to fail. The Middle East is beyond repair, and we have become weak and ineffective around the world. Donald Trump sees the issues and knows that he can assemble leaders who would have the best chance of fixing things. This is why he is running. He does not need it for his own aggrandizement. He doesn't need another big jet or to take up residence in the White House. He just wants things to be fixed, and he knows that the politicians won't fix anything.

I knew Donald Trump and was close to him in our senior year in high school. I just want you to know that there is nothing to fear from him. His character is as good as it gets. He is a patriot, taking on a heroic task, and being thanked by massive abuse.

If you want to see a true reflection of a man, look at his children. Need I say more?

Ate a booger.

Thank you for clarification. Sorry I took that wrong. Oops.

I'm locking myself in the basement for the rest of the year. ; )

Hmm.

John Kasich? I admit to ignoring him since he seemed an also ran. I better look at him eh? Thanks.

As to Fanboy. Some people get so invested in an idealized picture of a candidate/tv show/racer etc. they refuse to see flaws. Hard to argue something personal with full rational clarity.

With The Donald I have to be aware I'm prejudiced against him because of the persona he's created. A salesman and self promoting "on camera" personality rubs me the wrong way. My problem to overcome.

I'm not a fan of any either. Had hopes for a few. Oh. Well.

Right now I'm guessing who the least favorite are in the eyes of the authoritarian left.

Interesting piece about Trump. It addresses virtually nothing being discussed here in this thread, and argue all the silly points being made elsewhere (media and other candidates) that we are ignoring in this thread. It's one of the things I really appreciate about these discussions on BadWeb. They tend to keep to the more important parts of the topics.

The big question at hand with trump isn't his hand size, it's more about if he has more liberal or conservative tendencies. I think more specifically, how closely will he adhere to Constitutional principles. Ticktin doesn't touch on this, but he does ironically touch on some liberal causes that he feels Trump should address, such as climate change and the evils of the oil companies. Taking Ticktin's writing at face value, it does little to make me feel better about Trump.

FB,

Actions. Louder than words.

Trump is twice divorced and tried to use govt to obtain the private home of another citizen. He supported Hillary in 2008. Cruz is the real deal. He's proved it over and over again. Join the team. Cruz.

You must have missed my memo. I support Cruz. He is my number one but Trump is my number two. I simply won't support a politician other than Cruz and only support him because I have followed his career and know him to be "the real deal". He's an outsider in his own party. Trump, is also an outsider as evidenced by the attacks by the establishment. He's the middle finger candidate. Would he be a strong conservative? I doubt it. Would he be better than Clinton? Hell yes

That's great to learn FB. I was concerned about you.

Owens,

"So what" if Trump is twice divorced? If he ditched them, which is the case in at least one of the divorces, then it speaks to integrity.

Ronald Reagan's first wife left him against his wishes. Big difference.

Come the general election, no one who has ever left his wife has ever been elected president.

If you have to ask "so what", then you've neglected to consider the number of women voters who have very strong bias against men who leave their wives.

If you have to ask "so what", then you've likely not assigned any value to integrity as a trait desirable in a president.

Do you figure that the Democrats won't find a way to release transcripts from Trump's divorce(s)? It's how Obama became senator for Illinois, twice his opponents sealed divorce court records were publicized.

Blake, the divorce issue only applies to a certain percentage of the Republican voters. Real issue for some, I admit.

Over on the Dem side, they cheerfully elected a guy accused of rape, because his ideology supported abortion, and the feminist movement has gone from equal rights to "male female sex is rape" to "abortion would be a sacrament if men got pregnant".

So Bill Clinton could have murdered people on tv with an axe and been fine.

Trump said he could do that, and his supporters would still follow him. Some would, but I bet that he wouldn't get elected after that. Because only a percentage of the voters are that cult of personality prone.

https://www.jerrypournelle.com/chaosmanor/election -grinds-on-good-news-from-arpa-data-on-global-warm ing-aliens-among-us-and-a-lot-of-mail/

The Republican Establishment, having alienated at least two thirds of its base – those who participate in primaries, anyway – has decided they must do something. They aren’t going to do much about the issues that have alienated their voters; they’re going all out to Stop Trump. So far they haven’t noticed, or pretend not to notice, that the only non-Trump candidate who might be able to appeal to the Trump voters is Texas Senator Cruz, who is not part of the Country Club establishment that is content to stay in the minority so long as their positions are safe, or that he is a great a threat to their sinecures as anyone.

They’ll learn. First stop Trump. Then woo Cruz, get him to join up with the insiders, win him over, make him grow in office. It worked in the past.

There’s a good chance that it’s too late. As it stands, an open convention would present them with a choice between Trump and Cruz. Mr. Trump scares people, and probably doesn’t really want the splendid misery of the Presidential office. It really is hard work, and it is unrelenting. An advisory post would better suit him, so long as he trusts the actual candidate.

We’ll see.

http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2016/03/na rcissistic_rage_as_the_psychodynamic_of_trump_dera ngement_syndrome.html

Pulls no punches.

A LOT of people are going nuts about Trump.

A mean seriously, ought to go on medication nuts.

Obama is pretty obviously a narcissistic whack job with severe anger issues. One of my best friends very early pointed out to me that Obama is a very, very angry man. My bud's observation is informed by the fact that he is an "African American"..( what? Screw that crap? You're Black? Got it ) and has experienced a fair bit of prejudice in his life. Barry's temper is evident whenever anyone crosses him. ( if he hadn't been born to wealth and privilege he might be in prison today, doubtless blaming his victims and retaining incredibly high self esteem )

Hillary is an amoral monster, corrupt beyond belief, and unlike her husband, without the charm to carry it off. Rumors that she has ordered murders are completely credible to me.

Trump? Damn. But to be fair, I don't like him, so I'm biased.

But the real insanity is evident in the Fanboys and Enemies of these people. It's like a badly written sci-fi movie where LSD & Anger gas is released on a crowd and they start biting each other faces off over a spilled coffee. Holy Mother Of CIA LSD experiments!

I really do hate giving the impression that I will defend Trump at any cost but some of what is being said to denigrate Trump is just nonsense and just as easily applies to any of the other candidates. Politicians ARE psychopaths and narcissists. There have been studies that have identified these traits in politicians and other successful people. If you read some of the research you will find that it's not necessarily a bad thing. The short of it says that it helps drive these individuals to succeed and by their success drive civilization forward. So, let's stop pretending that the second coming of Jesus is running for President. These are men - all of them flawed. All of them with big egos willing to step into the cesspool of politics to achieve personal gain.

No, not a big difference.
In both cases one person in the marriage was unhappy and decided to move on.
What should he have done, stuck around for the next 50 years unhappy in the marriage?

Sometimes marriages fail. It sucks but it happens. Im not going to base the eligibility of a presidential candidate on that.

Cruz wants a flat tax of 10%, which sounds great. But he also wants to abolish the IRS, how does he plan to do this? And if it were abolished (big IF), who would be in charge of collecting taxes etc?

Yeah, big difference. It speaks to integrity and honor. They took vows, or oaths, of marriage. Politicians speak oaths to faithfully execute their office. Why should I believe a guy can keep his word to me, when he can't even keep his word to his wife? When things get difficult, will they throw in the towel? Cruz doesn't. He stands on principle, against his party leaders who are all too happy to give in to the opposition. An act that has repeated itself over and over for the past 100 years, leaving us with the cesspool of Progressive government programs we have today.

Pretty weak attack on Ted. He's no perfect candidate, but it also isn't the establishment candidate as painted in that hit piece. He's got a pretty solid record that can be examined rather than relying in the innuendo presented in that "article".

In contrast, Trump has zero history as a politician to examine as a political leader. All we have is his history as a greedy, opportunist businessman who is more than willing to snuggle up to any politician that will get him what he wants. I won't fault him as a businessman for that, but I don't see it as a reason I should trust him as a politician. I would feel much better about electing one of the Koch brothers. At least with them you would have a pretty good idea of their political ideology. Trump OTOH is a complete crap shoot with a history that has him supporting liberals at least as much as conservatives.

Just heard Trump on the Hannity show. He was questioned about cutting entitlements. "I don't want to cut entitlements". Said it twice. Didn't qualify it in any way what so ever. Simply "I don't want to cut entitlements". Not exactly a small government conservative speaking there.
