Yes, that is an R9T. I was temped to get one...but it's a little too refined for my tastes and I've had a bit of thing for jumping rail crossings for the past several years. It hasn't gotten old!
Perhaps the Megamoto would have been a good option, but they're pricey and hard to find.
Some jackass posted up an '89 PC800 with 16K miles, for $6200.
JACKASS. Yes they're collectible, but there are many generations past '89 that are still great bikes! I could probably replicate the '89 2 tone pearl white for better money with Vern, and a better machine.
OOhhhh! SteveF, comgrats! Sifo had one like that, IIRC within a year or so of '06, see what he has to say.
I really enjoy mine, especially after Vern painted it the proper color, British Racing Green. You'll grow to love that Triple- dang thing is sneaky fast, even with my 955 motor!
Thanks, this morning's ride was a bit chilly and spirited! This feels like a 137 in a school zone see you in jail kind of bike. I'd sell something else, those Sprints are just tremendous motorcycles. The 955 is no slouch, the Yellow Banana moves right along.
Been a while since I saw something this old, this cool, in this kind of condition! If I didn't already have 2 bikes, plus a plan to buy Thump's old bike for parts, I'd grab this ASAP!
Yeppers- like they did to the Viffers, they over-engineered the newer ST1300. And IIRC, like the VFR's, the latter ST's lost the cool gear-drive cams and their sound.
Wish I could grab a Trekkie's transporter and beam this down to Crusty!
The last purchase is nearing completion: 04 Triumph Sprint RS SSSA (single sided swing arm). There is no more room in the garage so that must mean I'm done.
Steve - How much was the Sprint if you don't mind me asking? Something like that could work nicely for me. You'll have to tell me about the Mustang some time too
Haven't really read this entire thread, but in response to the initial question... I'm already riding them. Still have my 1999 BMW K1200LT which I bought new in the summer of 1999. It is currently in the shop for a regularly-scheduled 6K maintenance interval (with 198,000 miles on the odometer). I owned and rode this bike as I went through three different Buells: A 2000 M2 Cyclone, a 2006 XB12Ss Lightning Long and my 2009 1125R.
Currently my "Second Bike" is a 2013 BMW C650GT (maxi-scooter) and I'm looking at adding a third two-wheeler to the mix this Spring; a 2016 Zero S. This latter will be used solely for commuting and local errands leaving the ICE bikes for longer trips.
Pretty slick, Steve! I wasn't even aware that they built the RS with the single-sided swingarm... how are you liking it?
Graham, I'll keep you in mind if I ever decide to sell mine... I'll be picking up Thumper74's bike as a parts bike once the weather allows me to travel safely. I REALLY dig the thing.
I can't answer that one yet as it's about to be loaded onto a truck and hauled across the country. I believe that they only made it for one year so it's a bit of a rare bird. I'm pretty sure that it's going to be a great back roads blaster. It's going to get a center stand, a Sargent seat, Ferodo brake pads and some fork gaiters from a new Bonneville and that should do it. I'm REALLY looking forward to riding season this year!
P.S. After 13 seasons of riding nothing but Buells it feels really strange to be buying Triumphs; it was always just automatic that I'd get another Buell and then deal with their quirks. Now I have to learn another brand's quirks. Thank you, Hardley Abelson, may your stocks plummet until they hold the value of used toilet paper!
Steve- add to your list a Throttlemeister, bar risers, a rear fender chop, maybe a taller windscreen... those things on my bike are great. Set the throttle lock on a straight road, and you can steer with your hips, no hands. Mine is rock solid steady, even at 140-150...
Your model lacks the molded-in front signals, might grab some smaller/lighter ones and a pair for the back after the sub-fender chop. Vern did mine when he did my paint, everything looks awesome.
I've looked for my post Buell motorcycle and haven't found it. I hate chains on street bikes. I don't want to disassemble half a motorcycle to adjust valves. And I prefer simple to complex. Those requirements severely limit what works for me. The closest I've found to replacing my Uly is a Moto Guzzi Stelvio, but it is a very large heavy motorcycle that is nowhere near as sporty as my Uly is. So for now, I'm stocking up on parts and keeping my S1W and Uly. But we did want to replace Joanne's XB9S with something more sport-tour friendly. A MotoGuzzi Griso was the best choice we found for her. It's a bit heavy, but it carries it's weight low. She loves it. I've finished the first round of mods, don't really plan on going to town on it mod-wise. But a small windscreen, some heated grips, some 1" drop pegs, a rear fender eliminator, and some LED rear turn signals are a good start.
