students, not faculty, run the universities. The progressive professors are withering under the wrathful gaze of the very monsters they created. Cowards.
Watch the movie PCU, with Jeremy Piven, David Spade, others. It showed ( 20? years ago) what happens on campuses when political correctness take over. The whole system ceases to function. . .
I don't know that people understand the accuracy of Idiocracy's breeding explanations. Within the next 20-30 years, we will lose this country without ever needing to fight a war.
I love the scene in Idiocracy where they are in the guy's office and the view through the office window is a broken off freeway bridge... and cars just keep driving off the edge into a giant pile.
I blame all the parents who thought it was a good idea to reward loosing. Kids have become such delicate flowers that they think it must be against the law for their feelings to be hurt. Parents, look in the mirror and blame yourself.
Now how do we fix it? Ban T-ball? Tough skin training?
In the last 5 years I have seen dozens of kids break down in job interviews because they were asked tough questions like "What do you bring to the company that sets you apart?". I have also seen 2 parents demanding they be allowed to sit in on the job interview with their kids. Both threw hissy fits when they were denied and both of them tried to sue for discrimination because neither of their kids were hired (both were complete idiots who failed to adequately answer any question except: "what is your name"). We kept impeccable records of those interviews and after the parents lawyers saw the transcripts of the interview, the cases were dropped. I also had one young lady get upset and tell me I don't understand the youth of today, when I insisted she put her phone away during an interview (She actually interrupted the interview to answer a call from a friend asking how the interview was going. You could hear her ask, so I blurted out: NOT VERY WELL".) Things went quickly downhill from there and the young lady was escorted out of the building while she was screaming at us. Since she was referred by a university, they called to follow up and were amazed at her behavior.
Airbozo, it's not just jobs. The fascism of the herd has grown increasingly violent and intolerant.
From Hoot's link above.
Dr. Piper warned that could set the stage for a problem that transcends college campuses.
“Do we want ideological fascism or do we want intellectual freedom and academic freedom,” he asked. “Because really what we have right now is an argument for ideological fascism. You must submit. You must agree. You must be one of us. And if you don’t, we will silence you. We will crush you.”
Rather like Tod's agreement that I should be put in prison for disagreeing with multi-millionaire Al Gore and those who follow the Prophet Of Doom, these people are actually dangerous.
Some "protester" taking time away from his Hittite Lesbian Studies Major ( he thought there would be video ) pushing people around because they might say something he disagrees with, is going to run into a person intolerant of abuse. And be demolished. His parents will then sue the University for not protecting him when he assaults people.
My wife had to interview someone who came highly recommended from their university, and was flown in for the interview. He couldn't put his phone down and kept stopping to read his texts. It was a short interview.
I find difficult to fathom the stupidity of some supposedly very smart individuals.
Funny thing is, my boss, the CEO and owner, is also on the board for the engineering school at Santa Clara University and after this event he made it a point to have the students informed about proper interview etiquette.
The young lady that was interviewed was actually called out in one of her classes (She actually told others what happened) and when trying to justify her behavior got booed down by others. Maybe there is a twinkle of hope.
Don't kid yourself ... there is very little hope for kids today. As a father of a 5 year old, I find it very disturbing.
My wife and I are thinking of every way possible to keep our son away from the public education system. We are also doing everything in our power to help him grow up to be a confident, considerate individual capable of thinking for himself while not becoming a narcissistic, self absorbed, pampered over-indulged adult adolescent.
Here's an experiment for you ... next time you are at a restaurant, look around and see how many families all have their heads stuffed in each of their phones rather than talking to each other. It will surprise and disturb you.
By the way, the blame for these kids falls on parents who are all to happy to let their kids be raised by TV and Social Media rather than themselves ... even more so than an extremely flawed and inadequate education system that is further weakened by the leftist pampering at supposed Institutions of Higher Learning.
"Here's an experiment for you ... next time you are at a restaurant, look around and see how many families all have their heads stuffed in each of their phones rather than talking to each other. It will surprise and disturb you."
True dat, unfortunately. I work at one of the most expensive fine dining restaurants in the area, and it's waaay too common. Most young kids have some sort of digital attention trap on their lap, if not a phone- most of the adults, unless they're an elder generation, futz with their phones.
Oh, and I should've mentioned it a while back- Heavy Metal, the original movie, is A GREAT watch! Saw it when it first came out, would love to have a DVD copy, and the soundtrack is superb. Steely Dan did some of my favorite tunes for that score.
Bonus ?: Where did Steely Dan get the idea for that band name?
(Sorry, no hijack here, please resume OP topic...)
Heavy Metal is my #1 favorite move of all time. I know almost every single line by heart. I watched it the day it came out, the day it was released on cable (and recorded it), have the vhs and DVD. My Heavy Metal magazine collection is only missing 12 issues from April 1976 (when it used to be monthly). I also own every video game based on the stories in the magazine including Druuna, F.A.K.K.2. Yes I am obsessed.
Hoot wins! The name came from a reference in W. Burrough's "Naked Lunch"...
AirBzb- me and my best bud used to check out the HM mags at the little store down the highway from the neighborhood... LOVED all the illustrations, most of the storylines. RanXerox was my fave, if I lost my huge schnoz I'd resemble him.
Tom- I was a little young at that time, seems I remember a strange aroma wafting through the air though... in my later years, .5 of a square would've been fun for that flick!
Ummm, OK, back to the regularly scheduled programming, sorry again.
