Comment from the article: “Ex-EBR Racer”? Seriously? Canepa was rode Ducatis in 2012, 2013 (when the incident was recorded), and 2014. He competed in just four rounds for EBR in 2015, then went to a Kawasaki team, and now rides a Ducati again. Erik Buell cannot catch a break! Talk about kicking a man when he’s down. Canepa is not an “ex-EBR racer.” He’s a Ducati racer. He was at the time of the incident and he is now. | ||

Well, just be glad he's not riding for EBR at present. He was doing well and making progress every race on the EBR, and Lord knows, he has a smokin' hot girl friend, but that move could have killed someone. (Message edited by Hughlysses on August 01, 2015) | ||

OK! I have to ask the questions: Where did he come up with that move? That looks like some 6th grade bicycle bully stuff. Or, some drunk rednecks with an air stapler stuff. Has he did that in a race or, to another racer in a prior practice? | ||

Where did he come up with that move? My old mountain biking buddies and I used to do that to each other all the time... of course we were riding mostly on dirt, and moving slower than a motorcycle... in most cases. | ||

That headline was probably presented that way to provide a link to his US history so that Americans would read the story. How many of us would read about a two year old story about an Italian racer screwing up in another country otherwise? As far as what he did (in 2013) during that race.....he may as well have ridden up beside the guy and shot him with a .357. That slapping the brake handle move is way beyond rude. I rode with a group of about thirty serious dirt riders back when PATRA was being formed(if I recall, I was a charter member). We used to do the slap the kill switch game on dirt bikes to. I changed my toggle type switch to one that had to be held down until the engine stopped. A buddy of mine went beyond that and wired his switch to a high voltage capacitor. I never got to see it happen, but he said he got the two most frequent switch slappers who rode with us to leave him alone.  One of the guys who had a short temper, resorted to carrying a 16 oz ballpene hammer. All of the switch slapping stopped after a few gas tanks got dented! In some respects they were a bunch of real hard asses!.....but man could they ride! | ||

"High voltage capacitor"...  I have a memory from back when I was barely 7,8ish, and me and my dad were on my go-kart, me driving- he wanted to show me how to reach back and grab the throttle, defeating the governor and allowing WFO acceleration... after he showed me, I reached back and- grabbed the spark plug!!!   I bet that high voltage switch was worth a shit-ton of shits and giggles!  | ||

According to them, the rider who was the victim is finally seeing his day in court and the altercation caused him to break his collarbone. The case now revolves around PROVING that the rider in that fuzzy video really was Canepa... | ||

I guess it wouldn't matter except for determining motive. Was the victim seen as a threat in competition? If it was a track day, perhaps he thought he could get away with doing something •••••• like that without officials present. If this guy went out of his way to take out a future competitor with a premeditated evil plot, he really needs to be in jail to be bubba's girlfriend. I'm still baffled as to why EBR was mentioned at all in this article. | ||

Motive? Lots of reasons racers get their panties in a twist on the track. Maybe the guy made a similar move against him earlier, or ran him off in a corner. Who knows. We saw 10 seconds of it. Doesn't excuse the behavior. |
