>>>We are attempting to monetize our debt by printing money. It's a hidden tax.

Bingo.

If I double the value of your 401K by handing you Monopoly $$$ . . . it'd be rough;y the same thing as Obama's QE program.

The fellow who called the national debt "unpatriotic" . . and campaigned promising to "cut it in half" . . . in on the way to tripling it on his watch.

Yeah, but QE is now at 60B/month, down 25% from a year ago.

It is depressing that QE (or other nice names for printing more money) make it foolish to save money. It pretty much forces a little guy to own stock (which is kind of it's own house of cards). Id rather be investing in real estate, but holding it long term it gets eroded by taxes.

You know you are in scary times when buying a gun is a growth investment.

Lost it all in 2007 - the job, the bikes 1 by painful 1, the girl, the house, the credit rating. Thinking it would improve my lot, I got out of the tanked motorcycle biz and jumped into health care - an area that I had 10 years experience in, but had been out of for nearly 10 years. I thought that renewing my licenses, and getting a Masters Degree dedicated to the bill would be a sure track to success.
The sh#t of it was - that nobody wanted to fix the beast they had created - they wanted to milk it in a classic pump and dump.
I spent 5 years over 1000 job applications - 1 f*cking interview.
I slugged out 2 years at Wal-mart; who was at the time toying with getting into health care - I applied to 25 internal position postings in the Health care field - not a single f'n call back. Not one.

America - you are worth six seconds of meh.
I come overseas - I was hired in a week.

15 Years Military Reserve Intelligence
15 Commercial Insurance: Sales, Audit, Fraud, Collections
8 Years Sales - 5.4Mill in net revenue to the mothership
A Masters Degree in Health Care Policy and Analysis
A Bachelors in Russian International Studies
I speak Russian well enough to fool the locals that I am from Georgia and not the one with an Atlanta in it.

What ever America was - it is not coming back; Hillary will get elected in 2016. Because if you were dumb enough to vote on race in 2008 & 2012; you are exactly dumb enough to vote on gender in 2016.

I might buy that.

We are overdue for a good, old fashioned civil war. WAY overdue. If you look at the history of nations, civil wars, sectarian feuds, etc. are pretty common. We've been blissfully without for an abnormally long period of time. Part of this is the fact that we've had and external enemy to battle for the better part of 100 years.

The main problem I see now is that our international enemies would LOVE to see a civil war here. We would be inwardly focused. When the cat is away......

Add to that the potential of a direct attack on the US while we are battling each other, and this could get very ugly very quickly.

I still believe, though, that the biggest risk is from an EMP. The projections of death rates topping 90% would be worse than just about anything else we might see.

I understand why there were votes for Obama in 2008 as he is an excellent used car salesman. He was young, Black, and exciting. He seemingly had new ideas (albeit horrible ones) and he connected with voters.

I can not explain 2012.

Hillary in 2016 is an entirely different matter. Her ideas are tired. She has a history of scandals that go all the way back to Watergate in the early 70s. She is a very bad actor. I am willing to bet that 90% of her supporters would admit privately that she fails to connect with people evidenced by her eye movements during her email server denial speech. She does not like people. She is rich, way rich, but pretends she isn't. She is a total phony. She has accomplished nada while a US Senator and Secretary of State. Why would anyone vote for her?

I have read several books "Fiction" on emp's over the years. I have never seen percentages like you suggest, but I'm not saying they are wrong. Do you have any references you could pm me or point me to. I'm not an emp tard or anything, but I do believe that will be part of the next war with America (internal or external).

I don't know what the percentage of deaths would be, but imagine a world where suddenly food stops heading into the cities. That includes all the surrounding suburbs. That's just a single aspect of an EMP. If in the winter, you would suddenly find yourself without heat too. I'm pretty sure that in 72 hours or less you will find complete lawlessness as people do what they feel the must to survive. After the first month of this, I'm sure there will be quite high mortality rates.

"What would a successful EMP attack look like? The EMP Commission, in 2008, estimated that within 12 months of a nationwide blackout, up to 90% of the U.S. population could possibly perish from starvation, disease and societal breakdown."

If you lose power:

1) Check cell phone operation
2) Check to see if car(s) start (some are more affected than others)
3) If 1) and 2) prove to be TU, take any cash you have and proceed directly to the nearest grocery store/market. Buy as much non-perishable food products as you can.

In preparation, make plans for "what happens if". Identify like minded individuals who possess strategic assets with whom you can partner. Weapons, ammo, reloading supplies, locations out of the city to flee to, older carbureted vehicles, food stores, water purification, medical supplies/training, reference books.

What would a city look like with dodgy power, shotty water, no internet, no cell tower support, no grocery deliveries - no banks, no commerce, and a citywide curfew?

I suggest you do a long search away from the MSM and take a look at Donetsk and Lugansk (oh - add the incoming missiles and artillery on top of all the other sh*t)

It will come down to character, perseverance and the will to survive, fight, kill, win.

America hasn't had to do it in nearly 150 years - it is no longer part of your cultural meme - except for the adventurous and hunter /camper sectors.

We live in a just in time world.

Food is the biggest item ruled by this. The grocery store depends on daily deliveries to keep the shelves full. Once THE SHTF, the shelves will be stripped bare in a matter of hours never to be refilled.

Water is another. We want water, we turn the tap and out it comes. Turn that off and suddenly a crisis emerges.

Rule of 3's:

- If deprived of oxygen to the brain for more than 3 minutes, you die.
- Left out in the elements (cold) for more than 3 hours, you die.
- Go without water for more than 3 days, you die.
- Go without food for more than 3 weeks, you die.

Take any guns you have and proceed directly to the nearest grocery store and procure as much non-perishable food items as you can.

In urban areas you will have perhaps a matter of hours before all hell breaks loose. I'm not sure people in these areas would be able to get out of Dodge. It might be best to hunker down and do not go outside. After several months the herd will have been thinned.

I took some photos . . .the day before Sandy made landfall in the NYC area . . . and we are not accustomed to seeing grocery stores with littered floors and empty shelves.

I suspect that . . . and kinda plan for . . . when (if you are still in the if" mode you're delusional) the SHTF in NYC that I'm gonna have to hunker for a minimum of 30 days.

That's one of the things that always bothered me about living on an island . . . can you imagine? It takes at least an hour to get off in normal daily commuter traffic. Can you see that herd with their Hummers and 9mm hardware?

Hunker seems like the best option, eh?

2 pallets of water from Costco for under $400 = 6 months water supply for 5 people drinking 5 bottles per day.

Hunker until your water runs out. Hunkering for months in an urban environment? Good luck with that, especially if it's winter. You will need to find necessities, such as water. When you do, you most certainly will be noticed by others who will want to know how your are surviving. Not that they care about your survival. The gangs are already in place in those areas. They will rape the territory for everything it has to offer. How defensible is your urban hunker hole? Once they find out you have something worth defending, they will certainly make plans to get that something. Of course, there is the problem that once it's clear that it has hit the fan, it's most likely too late to get out of dodge. A city on on island? Not in the best of times.

Take any guns you have and proceed directly to the nearest grocery store and procure as much non-perishable food items as you can.

In the first 12-24 hours most folks will be operating under "normalcy bias". They will behave and operate as though nothing is wrong, that it's just a normal blackout, the power will come on any minute.

Rolling in armed and ready would appear like a robbery more so than a food run for the apocalypse. Security guards, private citizens, and police would be more likely to defend the property rather than be worrying about taking care of themselves.

Keep it low key until that is no longer an option (48-72 hours).

At this point in time, you'd better be hunkered down or well on your way to your secondary location by 72 hours out.

Best option is 75-100 miles from the nearest large city, 10-15 from the nearest small town. With an EMP, everything will come down to walking distance. People will follow roadways out of habit and ease of movement. Being located near a road can make your site a target of marauding groups.

Numbers = Survival

A group of 4-5 is a much easier target than a group of 20-25. Security in shifts will be required 24/7 to provide security, complete work, make supply runs. You can't do that with a small group.

I guess this will fit this thread. This week I found out that about 45 minutes away there is a group of shacks and tents set up in a small wooded area that is very difficult to spot. Only reason I found out about it is that we are dropping off magnet students there, and they get off the bus and walk down a trail to the camp.

Magnet students, for those that are unfamiliar, are students that have been forced into leaving the school district, but want to continue the school year with their friends. In reality, we are told most of them are simply homeless for a variety of reasons. State law requires that we provide transportation for magnet students, either too or from school, but not both directions. Apparently, there is no limit on miles we are required to transport them.

I've heard of Obamaville camps, but had never heard of a confirmed camp in my area before.
