I'll bet that any child who's graduated from a Common Core school will have to be coached to even pronounce, "do you want fries with that" and it won't do any good since your fries will come from a robot... because it is cheaper to buy a million dollar robot than train burger flippers in the next generation. 4. In the grand tradition of "No Child Left Behind" which we now understand to mean "no child gets ahead" there will be an enforced uniformity of grades. Since there will NOT be an effort to raise up the dumb kids, they will have to hold back the smart ones. Yesterday I was listening to the radio... political talk show ( Laura Ingraham ) and they had a fellow from the Cato institute on to pimp his ideas on Immigration. Now, I'm no "expert" on statistics. I did make my living using them for years, in Statistical Process Control, so I have a few clues. Obviously the guy from Cato didn't expect anyone to have any clue at all. he kept using the word "correlation". A correlation is important in statistical analysis, but I think he was mostly using that word because it's Big and he expects people don't know what it means. Here is a bunch of pretty confusing crap about Correlation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correlation_and_depen dence Enjoy, or go with the short form, which is from http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/correlation and is Statistics. the degree to which two or more attributes or measurements on the same group of elements show a tendency to vary together. Got that? Here's an example. How sick you are and how much higher your temperature than normal sometimes have a high correlation. 99 deg F. and you're just a little sick, 102 deg F. and you're darn sick. In this case the temperature is caused by your body fighting of an infection, and you can tell how sick a person is by his temperature, even if he's not telling you how he feels. Here's another example. Ice Cream and Murder. Every summer, in big cities, sales of Ice Cream go up, and so does the murder rate. They correlate very closely. They also have NO cause and effect with each other. Correlation is NOT Causation. So this bozo from the Cato Institute kept jabbering on, and one of his "correlations" was that we have a better economy when there are more immigrants. he implied cause and effect exactly backwards to reality. More people come here BECAUSE the economy is better, and the proof of that can be seen either by noting WHEN each event happens, or just noticing that during the current recession, many immigrants returned home, unable to find work. The economy did not become worse because immigration dropped, it's the other way around. As my Father often told me, "Figures don't lie, but liars figure like crazy". This fellow was lying, a lot. and that insulted me. It should insult you. When someone tries this trick on you, call them on it. to their face, and do not let them get away with it. After all, if they feel comfortable lying to your face, you should not feel uncomfortable telling them so. Enjoy. And be ready to block the first swing he takes at you and kick the daylights out of him, because, as we have seen, dishonest people are often the ones threatening violence. It was Margret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, who created an organization to get as many black babies killed as possible, in an effort to reduce the numbers of that lesser, and undesirable race. And, importantly, to have them kill their own babies voluntarily, and feel good about it. This program has been quite successful, although it has not yet had the results hoped for. Give them time. They are working hard on it, with a lot of enthusiastic support. George Bernard Shaw's proposals were praised widely, notably by American Progressives, and put into action, both here, and abroad. In America, it was mostly a sterilization program, and we never did do a lot with gas chambers. In Germany the ideas were adopted broadly, including the civilizing and heart warming proposal to have a live band play classical music for the undesirables as they were marched to the chambers, Death on an Industrial scale with Strings and Woodwinds. It's not at all unusual for leftists ( Progressives, Nazis, etc. ) to hold such views on racial purity, and the desire to eliminate the dregs of society, leaving the Earth to the Enlightened and Politically Correct. Recently though, it seem only the Greenies are vocal about slaughtering mass numbers for the Good Of The Planet, since the Political Left mostly keeps quiet on the subject, although I note that Barack Obama's Mentors in College and Politics were formerly enthusiastic and vocal about murdering tens of millions of Americans if they would not accept re-education camp indoctrination after the Revolution. So it's refreshing, in a creepy way, to hear an older hard line leftist be so honest about her views on slaughtering the less fortunate. The whole anti vaccination thing is a classic case of bad science poisoning the well. There are risks of vaccinating, which the government and the pharma companies have tried to hide. There are risks of not vaccinating as well, both to the individual and to the society as well. If you have an honest discussion about it, the risks of vaccinating are FAR lower than the risks of not vaccinating. But the fact that the CDC deliberately lied and corrupted science to get a result that was not true has poisoned the well. This, ironically, gave a huge credibility boost to those that lie on the other side and overstate the vaccination risks and who never really pretended to do any sound science in the first place. The CDC should have been straight with the science from the start, acknowledged the concerns and risks first, and worked forward from there. | ||

Reep, you are correct. When the CDC loses credibility because of outright lies, you run into the "Boy Who Cried Wolf" problem. This is a major issue with Vulcanologists who are investigating volcanoes that may erupt any day now. They know that if they guess wrong, and evacuate the nearby villages, and nothing happens, a week later when the volcano does erupt, no one will listen to them and people die. I too, like many people I know, went through High school or college with a distorted world view and was influenced by leftist teachers and pop culture. To this day I see the good parts of the Hippie ethos of love, sex without hangups and preserving our environment for future generations. I also see the need for responsibility for ones own actions and the inescapable fact that there are wolves who prey upon the sheep and that some few of us who have the capacity for violence, AND the morality to defend the weak, instead of preying upon them, and that those few are the only reason I can tell you these things, the only reason your daughter can go to school, the only reason the entire planet exists in a state of perpetual mass murder and oppression. Too large a part of our world exists in just such a state. Today. So as we look at the election coming up, and there's always an election coming up...until very suddenly there is Not, keep in mind the need to preserve our environment, to use whatever force is needed to make sure our daughters can still go to school, and pick someone who will unflinchingly support that cause. | ||

The Military Coming Of Age book has been with us for a long time. But it's the World the story is set in that torques off the leftist. After a war the veterans come home and are screwed over, again. ( Kipling uses this as a theme, a LOT ) This time they revolt, and change one tiny detail in an America of the future. To get the franchise, to vote, and to serve in public office, you must first volunteer for service in the military, From age 18 on, and they can't turn you down. You also get no choice as to what job you get. You may want fighter pilot, but if after testing they want to make you a truck driver, you drive trucks. You can get kicked out for messing up, criminal activity, or just being a jerk. The concept is that by giving service to the State, you place your fellow citizen's well being above your own, and thus are worthy of the vote. It's THIS part that gets the screaming freakouts going. I have to say it's not a terrible idea, no worse than property ownership, heredity, or membership in The Party, and IMHO better than most. It has not, to my knowledge, been tried in the real world. Btw, the Movie sucked, since the Director hated the source material, yet the most heavy handed blasting of the original in the Movie are my favorite parts.... "do you want to know more?" That's pretty funny. We are expected to believe that she was so ignorant of computers that rather than accept the email provided to her on a .gov server, she instead set up her own domain, on her own server, in her own house. I wonder what percentage of the population would have the expertise to do such a thing? Clearly she couldn't afford to pay people to do this for her. She's already explained how they were dead broke after leaving their public housing. I was really hoping that Congress might get a court order to seize all electronic communication devices from their house. Just have the police knock on the door with a battering ram like they do for us normal folks, turn everything in every room upside down and walk out with all the electronics. I knew that was just a pipe dream. We will never know what has already been scrubbed from the server. At this point it should all be made public domain though. Should they dare to argue that some of it might be classified, then they are arguing that she broke the same laws that they just prosecuted General Petraeus for. The one bright side of this is that I'm sure that in typical Clintonian fashion, she will fight disclosure of the details dragging it out for years. This tactic will bite her in the ass for 2016. |
