None of the white stuff here yet, but the snow in Rabbit Ears and Cameron passes a couple weeks back combined with impending daylight savings time change and the cold front we had overnight has me thinking about those cold winter eves watching movies near the fireplace. Can't stand most of the mindless drivel on t.v. in the evenings when we can't be skiing or riding, and listening to music tends to be something we do on the deck while grilling when temps are warmer. Any "can't miss" movies or series to put on our "must watch" list during the upcoming colder months? Recommendations appreciated. T.I.A. B. | ||

big fan of the walking dead. it's not for everyone, but get beyond the zombies and it's tribalism, survival at the end of times. that's how i see it anyway. other than that, hockey..... | ||

Guardians Of The Galaxy. Pretty much the entire Marvel movie line up.....except the first Hulk. The Edward Norton Hulk isn't bad. Once Upon A Time may be worth binge watching. I missed the first 3 seasons and will be backtracking. Take every fairy tale and stir. I cancelled cable years ago since everything is on line. Lost Girl is fun if you like hot babes and don't mind film noir supernatural meets Xena. | ||

Pixar. Grab "The Incredibles" and "Brave" in both cases arguably the best movie of their year and the technology difference is astounding. And it's still the humanity of the characters that makes the film. For "normal" stuff ask normal folk.  | ||

I just got a "smart" TV, now have Netflix and Amazon streaming... not yet investigated several other options allowable ($$$ I'm sure). Feeling pretty good after cutting my Charter bill from $140ish to $29.99/month, no need for Honey Boo Boo/Duck (dick?) Dynasty, and all the other CRAP. Out of 68ish channels their "basic" plan allowed, I determined that about 5 total I MIGHT watch. Paid $10 for a digital antenna, to get ABC/NBC/CBS/PBS, actually about 2 dozenish channels for free now- and if I add it up, what, $29.99 plus 16-20 bucks... And, dang if Redbox won't send me a free DVD rental via text code every now and then. I just returned "Fading Gigolo"- I highly recommend it. About to get back into that "old" series, Heroes. My GF loves that she can get Quantum Leap and Columbo. Anyone here remember a crime/mafia series, called "Wiseguy"? It pretty much got me to be a great fan of Kevin Spacey, but Ken Wahl carried it... What we're dealing with is the possibility FINALLY of "ala carte" content. OK, boob tube time.  | ||

Great surf movie - In God's Hands. It's a mix of fiction, surf and documentary. I pick up new things every time I watch it. It's also got real big wave surfers surfing big waves, not little 8 foot waves with a camera angle trying to make it look big. Series - The Fargo series was great. Justified. Satisfaction. | ||

I haven't had cable since the last season of The Walking Dead. I don't really miss it, except Sunday nights at 9pm on AMC. I can watch the new episodes online, so not a huge loss. Working two jobs, school full time, dating, etc. I like the flexibility of Netflix to watch what I want, when I want. I've enjoyed: The Walking Dead (more drama than horror/gore) Revolution Supernatural (9 seasons at 20+ episodes each) Archer Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil Long Way Round Long Way Down There's also cool foreign, subtitled horror movies on there if you want to read while you zone. | ||

Diggin' this thread- I'm really wanting to maximize my options and usability with this new Vizio smart TV- so far, we've really been enjoying it. On a related subject, Regal Entertainment announced 14.7% lower earnings and 64% lower revenues in the 3Q- surprise! I admit that often I'm tempted to go see something in the theaters with the dynawhoppin' 3D, blahblahblah- but I'm NOT gonna pay big $$$ for everything, then have it ruined by some (several) douche that just CAN'T put away their frickin cel junkie habits. Aint worth it, nopers. | ||

I don't get to watch much, but there's two TV series - one we don't miss in our house would be Sleepy Hollow - ties American history, lore, gore, and sexy girls all in one - too many commercials though... Fox channel and another that is infrequent, but still enjoy thoroughly, Justified - brings to light that most folks don't live like most folks(I know that sounds weird but I can explain if interested) reminds me of a more hilly home…FX movies ifnya haven't watched them (in no specific order)… Rounders Reservoir Dogs The usual suspects Snatch Chicken Little (kids movie whose one line reach backs are hilliarious) Lord of the Rings(set aside a whole weekend) Open Season (two is our favorite) | ||

On Netflix there are a few series that are well done including: Lilyhammer (great fun) The Killing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (w/ Noomi Rapace, not the english version) Wallander Lots of good stuff if you don't mind sub-titles. One of my favorites is "The Good, The Bad and The Weird", a Korean movie done in the Hollywood western theme. "Hula Girls" (OK, my wife is Japanese and made me watch it). Also recently enjoyed "The Way" with Martin Sheen and any number of wildlife shows from PBS. "Honey Badgers, Masters of Mayhem" was cool. Anything narrated by David Attenborough. | ||

Yep, lots of nature documentaries, which I personally enjoy. Watched a doc about skydivers using winged suits...pretty good. Crazy bastards. Can't remember the name. | ||

Reservoir Dogs LOL! I'll never hear "Stuck in the Middle With You" without thinking about that movie! Glad to see I'm not the only Justified junkie. It's worth watching from the beginning. Probably best that way. | ||

I just started rewatching Justified from the beginning, in anticipation of the new (final?) season coming up. On Netflix, check out The IT Crowd. Funny stuff. Walking Dead is ok... MotoGP and not much else. Seinfeld reruns while I'm falling asleep. | ||

Also a chance to catch the classics. The Godzilla movies are worth it just to count the times the same miniature scenery gets destroyed. Tarantula ( really early Eastwood ) The Marching Monoliths Them Forbidden Planet. ( one of the most ripped off movies ) The Wild Bunch Every John Ford western but especially.... The Searchers. Also. I like that Netflix allows you to watch an entire season of a show in a short time without being blasted with commercials. I enjoy the shows that are like reading a novel. 'Orange is the New Black' is a good story. The wife and I watched the entire 'House' series over the past year. 'Once Upon a Time' is a fun bunch of twisted, intertwined stories that allow me to harass the wife during a show that she really likes. I re-watched 'The Black List'that my wife had not seen at all, great writing. Now I am on to 'Boss'. Watch/reads like a good novel. 'Scandal' was great the first season and a half, the story line has wained a bit since. | ||
