Odd to preach about the death of ownership and accumulation to folks, many of whom own 4 or 5 motorcycles, in this population.

from the comments section of this article...

An Obituary printed in the London Times.....!
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who
has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was,
since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- And maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend
more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children,
are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but
overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy
charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens
suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher
fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the
job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses;
and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a
burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to
realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap,
and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death,
-by his parents, Truth and Trust,
-by his wife, Discretion,
-by his daughter, Responsibility,
-and by his son, Reason.
He is survived by his 5 stepbrothers;
- I Know My Rights
- I Want It Now
-Someone Else Is To Blame
- I'm A Victim
- Pay me for Doing Nothing
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

I think the article is right but for the wrong reasons.

I see it this way, Todays younger generation have grown up seeing us accumulating, but seeing it anchor us too.

They've grown up with the world at their fingertips & it's not a marvel to them, it's normal.

Why should they tie themselves down with a mortgage when they can rent? Why buy a car that'll be a junker before you finish paying for it, when you can lease brand new every year or so.

Jobs no longer have the security they used to as we all know & a hiccup on the other side of the world may leave you unemployed tomorrow.

Youngsters are prepared for this, in a way our generation never were, they travel light through life, they rest connected whenever possible, they're ready to move at the drop of a hat to wherever their worldwide circle of friends might take them.

I envy them that flexibility even though it scares me somewhat, yes even I, who've crossed seas & oceans, I still need my possessions.
I could get all my many cartons of books onto a hard-drive smaller than a single paperback.
All my tools are slowly but surely becoming virtually redundant as is a lot of the knowledge that goes with them. (I'm an Air cooled guy can you tell?)

I have to have located roots of some kind, something todays generation appear not to need, seeming to float on an electronic virtual parachute.

In the future?

Well I can see the world descending into chaos as essential skills are lost & birthrates drop as the need to reproduce can be satisfied with your online persona.

As for Government, it is by it's very nature and title there to control, a function it finds increasingly difficult & complex with an increasingly mobile population. Eventually the task will prove to be impossible & the beasts will eat themselves.

A bit gloomy for a Sunday morning? Hell no! I'm having a great time & all that shite's going to happen after I'm long dead.

Well said Grumpy.

I've lost everything I've owned twice.

While I have plenty of stuff now it's not everything in life...just filler.

These are certainly uncertain times we're living in.

You misinterpret.........again.

The article is about loss of liberty, something beloved by this population, therefore a pertinent perspective.

I'm not preaching, just relaying.

LOl just an article about how good a job the left has done in raising soul less serfs.
None them will ever work the land raise their own food tend animals or ever know the real freedom of owning land. Building a home your children and grand children can visit and enjoy the freedom of open spaces. My dad has land that has been in our family since George Washington's family sold land from English land grants It will remain in the blood line till the good lord returns.

The fools that are debt slaves to the academic left have sold their souls to the devil. Its the one debt you can never be free of.

How much dope did you smoke today Fredrica ?

Interesting article, thanks. I agree with a lot of it.

With the exception of owning a home, a lot of accumulation is just that. However, some things are easier to own than to access. You can rent just about anything, but it isn't always convenient or inexpensive.

As far as Internet access being a right, well, that's a dangerous proposition. If it's a right, the government will have to control access. As with everything the government does, it will ultimately boil down to politics and partisans. Do you want to be a minority party person when the other side controls access to information? Partisans already control the press, and that's bad enough as it is.

Thank you for the warning.

The new subjects being taught to shun ownership.... of property and responsibility, and the desire of the Ruling class to Ban ownership, except of course for themselves, is a scary trend.

The people that stay in 5 star hotels while the willing idiots "occupy" tents in the park and riot on cue for the cameras are the ones pushing a lot of society's evils upon us.

Obama hosts the richest men in the country to plan his amnesty to give them cheap labor so they can rid themselves of American workers with their hard earned rights.... and expenses.

The steps from "I am free of the need to own material possessions that drag me down" to generated hatred of "those who hoard the means of production" are few and inevitable.

Those who are made ignorant of the past are condemned to serve the masters who are not.

Ken, thanks for ruining what initially appeared to be an interesting discussion, you've contributed nothing of value or interest to it.

Why don't you start a thread to abuse the people you don't like & then you can make sensible contributions to reasonable discussions without recourse to the personal crap you seem to want to dish out.

I'm done with this thread.

"The new subjects being taught to shun ownership"

They are not being taught to shun ownership as you would like to believe. They are choosing it. Good for them. They are re-interpreting the American Dream since the old one has failed so many.

Innes,

Fredfast is a troll whose sole intention is to disrupt, lie, and insult others. He has been asked to leave and he agreed, but he slinks back, which is an indication of his lack of character. A troll needs oxygen to survive. Ignore him.

Please don't get angry at others who have long since tired of his antics.

Hey. I can read ok. I don't see anywhere in this thread that the op (& yes I've seen other posts by him) had trolled when others started jumping on his back.

It was an interesting discussion with no particular agenda just interested people discussing an interesting article.

If you feel the op is a troll why are you feeding him? All your abuse does is reinforce his opinion of you, & justify his feelings.
If you feel he's a troll don't respond to threads he starts. It's not difficult, but you jump in with both feet.
If you go looking for trouble don't complain when you find it, it just makes you look small, which may be his agenda, I don't know & I care less.
I can't understand that mentality which is why I said I'm done with this thread.

I've weighed my words carefully & that's my final word here.

Grumpy Fred has dedicated his life to the spread of disinformation about this country. His point in posting the article is to discredit the attitudes and outlooks than have freed more people from poverty and personal freedom than any other. We are tired of being talked down to by the Freds of the world bent on the destruction of our way of life. When he can honestly debate a point we will he is incapable of that.
We mess with Rocket too the difference is Rocket is really a caring guy The Israelis and the PA need to stop killing each other we just have differing opinions on how to get there. In the End Peace is the goal
Fred how ever is basically evil in his motives That will never be tolerated.
The article is really about debt not ownership of property The young have so much debt they cant imagine owning property
Controlling the desire for ownership of property is a way to control the population. Throughout history the Landed Gentry controlled the masses. It wasn't that long ago Your ancestors belonged to the manor. Just like the rest of the stock.
Freedom is not free we have to defend it in the arena of ideas with great vigor. My tactics with Freddy are designed to deal with him on his level of understanding so I poke holes in his sacred cows and call him on throw away analogy's about books he has never read.
We could spend hours going over the problems we have in this country. We need to clean out our house When we have the Hollywood crowd telling our President he should be a dictator for life we have Problems. The Fred's of the country will never change their liberal religion. The best we can hope is to limit their influence and have faith in Jesus. We are in for a rough period of our history.
WW3 is starting and our next civil war is soon upon us. The left is trying to take control of the country. Lunatics Children are not boys and girls but purple penguins. Fred's of the world promote such views

Since this seems to be a new phenomena, it renders historical perspective meaningless.

Actually an old one, and rendering historical perspective unavailable as the goal.

I tend to point at the more than century long war between the "State as Master" aka communist/socialist/fascist/progressive movements and Liberal Western Civilization, ( like Hydra's heads, the "Holy State" folks have many names )

The concepts begun by the Greeks in Athens, expounded by the Magna Carta, and codified by the U.S. Constitution constitute liberal western civilization. The primacy of the individual, the natural born freedom to chose your own path, your own faith, your own friends.

Vs. the collectivist myth of Marx, stolen from Christianity and a perversion of freedom. "For the Greater Good", "Each according to his needs", "for the children", are all buzz phrases that mask the truth, that a small self appointed group of people are the new aristocracy. A return to the values of the Kings, with lies to prop up the illusion.

making up New Pasts, and erasing the old, is to this day a standard strategy of this evil. See "1984" by Orwell. ( a 1948 take on a Sovietized England )

naturally my perspective is that of a man born in the middle of the Cold War, who's movies showed a post apocalyptic world brought by nuclear war, and whose home for most of my life was in a primary target zone for multiple nuclear missiles.

You could also go back quite a bit further when the Library of Alexandria was burned in 642 Anno Domini , "If those books are in agreement with the Quran, we have no need of them; and if these are opposed to the Quran, destroy them." or in 391 A.D. at the request of Theophilus, Bishop of Alexandria, to Emperor Theodosius 1...... In both cases to purge the pagan lore and any ideas contrary to the "powers that be".

No matter if Bishops, or Mullahs, or the public relations dept. of the Communist Party, the purpose is the same.

Erase the past and make the New Masters the Rightful ones.

There may have been an attempt to ban fire as too modern, but we have no record of that other than the first Dr. Who episode.

>>> While I have plenty of stuff now it's not everything in life...just filler.

Truth!

I also like Innes' commentary.

And Ken ain't wrong about Fred. I don't approve of sinking into the gutter to scorn him. We must be better.

There is no doubt that many people have lost their way; they don't see truth like Rick does. He's endured challenging times and knows what is truly valuable. Too many people don't.

Many may not be sure what truly is meaningful or what if anything we carry through into eternity. We all ought to at least be certain that it will be nothing material in nature.

Those who concern themselves with such things are blinded by their own pride. Their blindness causes them to value most what has no value. They then use that misplaced concern as their political cause; they call it "social justice." Others may call it "liberty", the slavers in the Confederacy did. God calls it "covetousness" and He commands us to avoid it.

We don't listen.

We don't want to love our neighbors as ourselves. We want the govt to handle that for us. Some more than others.

If we're not out doing as we ought to, we're just as much a part of the problem as the lying Marxists. This is nothing new.
