I've been a very busy fellow these past months & have finally managed to get a window to do my bike test.

Canada won't recognise my European licence that I've had for donkeys years, I have to retake the tests, it's a pain in the arse, but not the end of the world.

A few weeks ago I bumped into a guy doing some tuition while getting coffee at my local Tim's, nice guy , gave me his card.

Well I called the firm today thinking it's heading towards the end of the season I might get a deal to rent a bike & do the tests.

Left a message, got a call back just now. Too late!

Last day for motorcycle tests is today!

Going to have to wait til mid April now.

I expect you can all imagine my wtf? reaction on the phone, I expect they're pissing themselves back in their office.

Ah well I've plenty of time to get a bike sorted.

That still baffles me. It's not like motorcycle licenses found in cracker jacks over there.

Question:

If you're visiting from France, is your French motorcycle license valid?

You're in Quebec too, right? Isn't that basically France? : )

Get used to it.

Quebec (and Ontario for that matter - but more so in Quebec I think) is full of idiotic bureaucracy that leaves you questioning the overall sanity of a population that allows this type of crap to continue.

Here's the lunacy, as a visitor my UK motorcycle licence is valid, I also have an International Driving Licence linked to it, valid the world over.

I am now resident & as a truck driver obviously the first step was to exchange my car licence which is a straight swap. I now have 2 licences one European & one N. American. Now it's illegal to have more than one drivers licence in N America so my European one is effectively void on this continent even though it's valid in the rest of the world.
If I get stopped riding a bike & show my British licence I'd probably get away with it. If I had an accident it'd probably be grounds to void the claim as I'd technically be an unlicensed rider.

When I pointed out to the nice lady at the SAAQ (DMV) the bizarreness of the situation that my motorcycle endorsement is recognized as a visitor but not as an immigrant, you can guess the response I got.

A big smile & "Welcome to Quebec."

That's mostly due to (comedy) President Hollande & his cronies. I know many many who voted for him because they were told that Sarkozy was the devil & Hollande the only way to get rid of him, & now regret believing the hype.
Another factor that gets little mention, is the number of foreign residents that are leaving France (myself included.) Many have returned to their home countries, whilst others are moving on to more welcoming pastures.
For example Portugal is offering tax-free residency to European retirees that make that country their primary home.
