Just pucker your lips and blow. Wait, that's the wrong tutorial. Just put your toe on the handle bar and push.

Ah HA!

At last!

That would work fine.....

Thanks.

Oh. To be fair a lot of the bible was written by folk at the top of the technology and civil engineering pile. Still didn't have zero so I will continue to mock math based apocalyptic seers.

And disease related......the Jewish dietary laws on pork and shellfish make perfect sense in a world of red tides and pig parasites. While modern farming makes pork perfectly safe if you hunt wild pigs you cook it well done. Some hunters just turn all they can to well smoked bacon.

So the trick with Ebola is to be old fashioned. Take the vaccine if it comes out and seems reasonably well tested. Take it before that if you are in health care or a first responder. ( me......more often than it should. )

Avoid other's bodily fluids. CDC says all fluids not just blood.

Parents and lovers should not be too concerned because there is kid drool. So why try?

Might not want to kiss strangers for a while

Now that I think about it. The reason I mock Rapture predictors is they didn't read & get the point of the prophesy.

It tells you flat out you won't know when.
There's a reason for that and it's partly to punish hubris but mostly so you don't ignore the warning.

Good news report, thanks.

Kenm.... we don't KNOW lutefisk lasts longer than Plutonium.

But it could be true. Plutonium will eventually become lead, but no one has measured any decay in Lutefisk.

You cook Lutefisk?

We always just soaked it in milk for several days then beat it with a hammer.

I never bothered to pay attention to how you dealt with it after that.

It's possible I never had it properly prepared, but I've driven nails with it, and I deeply believe it's one reason my ancestors kept raiding France.

http://www.jerrypournelle.com/chaosmanor/stand-by/

Since the beginning of the outbreak more than six months ago, the Sierra Leone Health Ministry reported only 10 confirmed Ebola deaths here in Freetown, the capital of more than one million people, and its suburbs as of Sunday — a hopeful sign that this city, unlike the capital of neighboring Liberia, had been relatively spared the ravages of the outbreak.

But the bodies pouring in to the graveyard tell a different story. In the last eight days alone, 110 Ebola victims have been buried at King Tom Cemetery, according to the supervisor, Abdul Rahman Parker, suggesting an outbreak that is much more deadly than either the government or international health officials have announced.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2014/09/2 2/world-health-organization-ebola/16076067/

We ( The U.S. ) are going to build medical centers in Liberia.... Didn't Obama just encourage a revolution there? ( actually I think he more rode the coat tails of it, naturally, the local branch of Obama's favorite folk, the Muslim Brotherhood, seem to have a strong presence there... ) Maybe they do need the troops to build them.

We are putting boots on the ground in terrible places, and what will they bring home to their families? At least they are not likely to be shot by one of their own officers shouting Allahu Akbar in a workplace incident; on the other hand if they are careless in any way I doubt they will be allowed to come home to recover. But then there will be political pressure to allow them to come home. Of course Ebola will never mutate to be carried by any air or insect borne mechanism, so it can’t possibly be brought back to the United States. Join the Army and see the world. Yes, it’s an all volunteer army, but one suspects those joining did not quite foresee the full extent of what they volunteered for. But it is not usual to send 3,000 soldiers to an epidemic area, while sending none to an area where we have allies under ground attack in a critical area.

Perhaps we need to form a special army of volunteers for this sort of service. A foreign legion…

I was referencing the rise of the immigrant, specifically those from third world countries, which is where Ebola, TB and a host of other ills are confronting our society.

Call it stupidity or growing pains but expect more of the same.

I don't think people understand how serious this is.

Not really unless the virus mutates into an airborne variant or the government is lying to us about it not being airborne which the government would never do - lie, that is

If it wasn't contagious, thousands of people wouldn't be coming down with it. There's something different about this strain/outbreak.

Sorry for being Pedantic.

There is no doubt that uncontrolled migration is a major disease vector.

Once upon a time European Immigrants going through Ellis Island were screened ( roughly, and poorly ) for Tuberculosis and other obvious maladies.

Container loads of Chinese and vans full of South & Central American "undocumented voters" are getting through with zero checks, and the current wave of teens/adults coming through the New Normal System by Executive Decree aren't getting the kind of checks I'd like.

Ebola, so far, is an African problem. But that also means the Middle East, so we could see Ebola carriers coming through from Saudi Arabia etc.

If Ebola gets to the neo-slave villages of the Arab States it could get to India or Indonesia ( a couple of the countries that supply the labor for dirty & service work in the oil rich lands that pay their subjects ( the Arab Rich guy places are Monarchies... or close enough ) It's a bizarre world where the majority of teens and young adults make more on the dole than they can make cleaning bathrooms. So they import labor. Also tend to keep their passports and in practical terms enslave many and keep them in Ghettos with very poor sanitation and living conditions.

Those huge skyscrapers and artificial islands, and giant indoor ski slopes are what gets on tv. The incredible slums of the immigrant workers don't get the airtime.... and are the perfect place for plague to breed.

If it was some killer flu, I'd worry about the Chinese smuggled in by the container load.

June 20, 2014: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed on Tuesday that a patient being treated at a Dallas hospital has tested positive for Ebola, the first case diagnosed in the United States.

The patient left Liberia on September 19 and arrived in the United States on September 20, CDC director, Dr. Tom Frieden told reporters at a press conference Tuesday. It’s the first patient to be diagnosed with this particular strain of Ebola outside of Africa.

“[The patient] had no symptoms when departing Liberia or entering this country. But four or five days later on the 24th of September, he began to develop symptoms,” said Frieden.

The patient, who was in the U.S. visiting family in Texas, initially sought care on September 26, but was sent home and was not admitted until two days later. He was placed in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, where he remains critically ill, according to Frieden. ...

So the guy was walking around for eight days here before being admitted to hospital, at least two days after developing symptoms and being turned away.

HE WAS TURNED AWAY!?! What flaming moron made that call?!? That is fracking malpractice!

Patient: "I just flew in from the Ebola hot zone and have flu like symptoms."

Doctor: "Awe don't worry, it's probably just the crud and some jet lag."

Unfrackingbelievable.

We have become a nation of morons.

There will be more. Sick and walking around for 8 days, at least two of which he had symptoms. Holy freaking zombie apocalypse.

Patric we developed a package waste water treatment unit for those apt slums In Dubai.
Recycled water etc only dry waste to haul away. Built and delivered 2 prototypes
They loved them but only purchased those two it was still cheaper to pump out the cesspool in front of the building and haul it out and dump it in the desert.
The two plants went to the closest building to the down town area. Just to stop the odors and trucks from disturbing the wealthier residents.
Those slums are unbelievable

I'm going to give that one to Pournelle's Iron Law of Bureaucracy.

http://www.jerrypournelle.com/reports/jerryp/iron. html

Pournelle's Iron Law of Bureaucracy states that in any bureaucratic organization there will be two kinds of people":

First, there will be those who are devoted to the goals of the organization. Examples are dedicated classroom teachers in an educational bureaucracy, many of the engineers and launch technicians and scientists at NASA, even some agricultural scientists and advisors in the former Soviet Union collective farming administration.

Secondly, there will be those dedicated to the organization itself. Examples are many of the administrators in the education system, many professors of education, many teachers union officials, much of the NASA headquarters staff, etc.

The Iron Law states that in every case the second group will gain and keep control of the organization. It will write the rules, and control promotions within the organization.
