Glad to hear you meant it that way. The 15 years later bit had me wondering.

I'm still hoping to see Triumph do something in a naked bike based on their 800 triple. To me that power plant nails what I want. I'm just not completely sold on the ergos of the adventure bike class.

Ducati should tap into a market with this latest offering, especially amongst us XB owners. They are certainly attractive but I would love to see them produce a modern version of their single pot OHC 250, 350 and 450. I don't know if there is enough of a market for them. I still have a '71 350 Scrambler that I love but am curious to see what 40 years of technology would do to this bike.

They are better off not going after the XB crowd, we know too much.

The XB9 had a lower price, much better brakes, much better suspension, more torque, more horsepower, lower maintenance requirements, a shorter wheelbase, and about the same weight.

Don't get me wrong, that scrambler is cool and if it's ergos come close to fitting me I would love to have one. But the XB9 is probably a better bike by most measures.

A big +1 from me Bill and to add probably better handling with all you stated.

You're right but options are limited when it comes to air cooled twins and unfortunately our XBs won't last forever. It's a shame that they're gone.

Lower price? 2010 XB9SX had a $8,999 MSRP. That was a few years ago too. Brakes? Looks like a radial Brembo unit up front. A single unit is probably plenty adequate for the intended use. The ZTL system, while innovative and having certain advantages, was never really the best braking system available. Suspension? Probably true on that point. It is a price point bike though. Torque and HP. True. The XB was also heavier that what has been presented as rumor here. Some of the new Ducs are pretty good on the maintenance. The Monster 821 for example, goes 9K miles between services and 18K miles between valve adjustments. You also avoid that goofy HD style clutch adjustment, and the primary chain adjustment that seems to be problematic for many. I think the 796 this bike is based on has more frequent service intervals though. I think it's 7.5K miles. Wheel base? Opinions will vary on what's best. Few modern bikes go as short as the XB9. Weight? It's about 15 pounds lighter as rumored. What's it cost to drop 15 pounds while maintaining compliance with all regulations? Usually a good stack of cash.

I'll admit that this isn't hitting every check box for me, but I think it's pretty darned good. I haven't seen what the suspension is, but there are things that can be done to tune non-adjustable suspensions quite cheaply. I don't see this being aimed at track riders, so it's probably reasonable. Adjustable suspension would be nice, but realistically, not what this bike/price point is aimed at. Performance is probably at the low end of what I would be looking for personally. The thing is, next spring I will be able to walk in to a dealer and buy a brand new scrambler. The XB, not so much. I think it stacks up pretty well against what is actually available these days. You do pay some premium for it saying Ducati on the tank though.

Does absolutely nothing for me.

If it were badged as a Honda or even a Lifan I would not have argued it were not one.

Ducati must have some serious cash to find bringing to market homoginised offerings for the masses. As Ducati's go, this one is dull as a Honda.

This is what you call a scrambler.

Quite possibly my next bike. Would
I rather another XB? Yeah, but they're getting more and more difficult to maintain. Erik seems to have nothing to offer outside of superbikes, nor any hints at a simple bike for a simple man.
Looks like the bike for me. I'll still have the XB, after all, who would buy an XB with 80 thousand plus miles...?
