I'd wanted a heavy-barrelled FN FAL for almost 3 decades now... and look at what is finding its way to me. Shame that I have to keep it in Arizona; not CA.

+1 on moving to a more gun friendly state.

I like getting stuff like this myself.

Can you mount a laser on it? That would make for a serious attention getting pointer in a design review meeting.

Blake - there are a few ways to mount a Picatinny rail to the top of the weapon. The only problem I see is that the weapon really isn't suited to Close Quarters Combat as in a meeting... but the visual is priceless!

Donald - last week we were actually shopping for eventual purchase in the Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Sedona area. We own a house in Phoenix (Sunny inherited when her parents passed) We are ALL THROUGH with CA in a few years - or sooner.

We refer to it as the "ABC Retirement Plan" Anywhere But California!

And Dean - yes, Springfield by choice (it's not a "kit build" but is built on Israeli hardware)

Nice! I recently realized that we have been adding on gun a year for the last five years. At that point, we agreed that this is not a bad plan, just because we can. I recommend it as a good plan for others too!

That's my neck of the woods for sure... You might expand your search to Prescott as well. Very slightly more wintery but MUCH better in the summer than Cottonwood or Sedona.

Sedona is a Mecca of a certain type too... The fact that Shirley McLain lives there should tell you what you need to know. Apparently there are energy vortexes all over the place. I fixed a computer for someone who works for a client of mine who was absolutely certain her failing monitor was caused by a vortex of energy right behind her monitor.

I suppose it could have been but really it just damaged the VGA cable in a fashion that looked a lot like it had been run over by a chair one too many times... Those damned Sedona energy vortexes I tell you. Destructive little buggers apparently.

Zip - love a BAR! A collector here let me shoot 5 rounds through his. Sweet but firing from an open bolt was odd for me to get used to.

Very cool. There was a very nice DSA locally that a shop owner gave me an offer on I almost couldn't refuse years ago. In those pre Obummer days shops were practically giving away military style rifles. It was about half of what I've seen since.

These days my rifle caliber guns keep getting smaller and smaller:

Next one will be shorter still.

That B.A.R. was built by Ohio Ordnance as a semi-auto,firing from a closed bolt to be legal in Iowa....but hardly nothing beats the sight and sound of firing tracers out of a full auto B.A.R....as they streak off to the horizon on a dark evening.

Do you need a special license for an AR with a 10 inch barrel? Thinking about one chambered in 9mm.

rick, my buddy has a 7" ar pistol. it's brutal! noise & flash both. we both went 11.5 inch now. way better. oh and that isn't a vertical grip on that there pistol is it??

mac, with no shouldering stock, an ar can be a pistol. therefore no atf sbr tax stamp reqd

A short barrel can be had as a stockless "pistol" or "firearm." The alternative is to purchase a $200 "tax stamp" via the ATF to purchase or register a gun as a short barreled rifle.

Mine is modeled after this:
http://www.franklinarmory.com/PRODUCTS_XO-26.html

An angled forward grip can be used on AR pistol or any length.

The next will be a 7."

I will be using a PWS CQB comp which looks to make it more tolerable with noise and flash.
PWS CQB Comp

Little loud guns are funner, anyway

There's also this "arm brace," that is gaining popularity:
http://www.sigsauer.com/SigStore/sb15-pistol-stabi lizing-brace-552.aspx

Everyone able bodied, of course, is purchasing them to use like this:

I thought the AR pistol concept was stupid, until I started looking into it and came across this video

which let me to the XO-26 and the "firearm" concept.

Sorry for the hijack.

Macbuell, mine's a Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Loaded SS. I know several guys that have Kimbers and Colts in the short barrel versions, they all like them a lot for concealed carry. I'm a little bit larger sized, so I can get away with carrying the full size 1911. It shoots better than I'm capable of, so I'm perfectly happy with it.

All the little holes were from my youngest shooting her new SR-22. I did the 14 head shots (2 magazines) at 7 yards one handed just to see how it did.

It's not the size, but how you carry it.

I'm all of 5'8" and 155lbs and carry either a 5" 1911 or a 4" large frame S&W.

A good holster and a little common sense in regards to dress is all that is necessary.

Dean, for some reason that looked like the Colt but I can see the Springfield Armory on the handle now. Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking at the commander size because I think I can carry it comfortably and want the longer barrel. The 5 Inch would be too big and heavy for my tastes.

Except for at work yesterday, I carried my new 1911 in the stock holster all day. Nobody knew I had it on except my wife (I asked her which one I should carry for the day) until we were getting ready to go home. Mother in law gave me a hug and bumped it. Everyone had to see it once she said something about it. Had it on my hip for hours around family that knows I carry but it never got noticed until the end of the day, so it's easy enough to conceal with the right clothes.

This is very similar to what I'm currently putting together:

Mine will have a "pistol" buffer tube, a different muzzle device, and a different brand of red dot.

I'm putting it together in secret. The wife will be quite surprised (and quite possibly very angry)

rick, i can personally vouch for the kies blast master. put one on my pistol build. works great. way cheaper, lighter & shorter than that flaming pig thing. and in my opinion looks way better too

http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/KIES_Blast_Master_ Linear_Compensator_p/kies-blst%20mstr22.htm

another thing i noticed is it's important to use quality parts on an ar pistol. bcg & buffer should be heavy & not cheap parts. both me & a buddy had trouble with them running. his 7" had even more trouble than our 11.5 inchers

I'll be using a PWS FSC comp. It's a flash hider/comp/booster and lessens the sound and concussion to the shooter.

I'm getting a complete upper from JSE. It's not the best thing out there but they have a good reputation.

If it don't run I'll figure it out.
