With a headlight swap it'd be alright. It's a little too transformeresque as is.

Must step into the 21st century. I remember a LOT of naysayers on the Buell XB platform and 1125 looks. I dig it, would ride it.

Like it or not, as a first attempt to manufacture in this sector, it's way beyond anything we've seen from a country not renowned for international sales in the mainstream motorcycle industry.

As I said somewhere else, if it had a familiar name on it, like KTM, Ducati, Aprilia, we wouldn't doubt it was Italian.

For an Indian effort, if this makes production it's very impressive. It would be even more so if EBR had nothing to do with it, but we could be forgiven for thinking we know why EBR would partner up with a company heading the direction they appear to want to judging by this, and their innovative diesel electric scooter.

That said, if EBR have got a hand in this, I suspect lots more will suddenly jump to like this bike once EBR's involvement is revealed. I don't just say so to be somewhat disingenuous to say the (potential) US market, but there exists amongst the mainstream motorcycling nations a stigma towards motorcycles in the larger capacity leisure sector which are built in once developing nations like Korea, China, India etc. What we are looking at in my opinion is an exception to this stigma, and likely the first bike to break the mold and push into a market like the Japanese did in the 1970's when previously the Japanese had not been taken seriously for various reasons they eventually overcame to be world dominant.

Haven't Royal Enfields been (solely) made there and sold internationally for like, decades? (Harleys and Yamahas are made there too, BTW) Hero was also formerly known as Hero Honda. So, not exactly a first attempt.

I'll explain for the hard of hearing : )

If this bike makes production and goes on sale in the UK for example, I should imagine it will pummel Royal Enfield sales into the ground.

The Hastur is a market based commercial venture to match the likes of anything model comparable from any other manufacturer anywhere in the world. Be they British as in Triumph Street Triple or Tigers. Italian as in Ducati Hypermotard or Monsters. Japanese as in take your pic of middleweight super nakeds. Austrian as in KTM Dukes or Super Dukes.

An Enfield by way of comparison is a nostalgic long term commercial entity which has made some international trade over decades on the basis it is a traditional British type motorcycle still being produced some half a century on. Its purpose is not to sell mass volume, competing as would be the case, against models from the same rival manufacturers the Hastur could no doubt face should it make production. AND SIGNIFICANTLY - A HASTUR IS A COMPLETELY INDIAN MOTORCYCLE which is a first in this sector (style, capacity, intended market). This being not remotely similar to building Japanese bikes under license, nor Indian manufactured Harley Davidsons which are not exclusively Indian in origin.

As for Hero Honda, that company built small capacity two wheelers. They have never built anything remotely like the Hastur and never will. Hero is a totally different entity from the now dead Honda allegiance that once was.

As for Mahindra, as huge as they are they build only two small capacity motorcycles and five small capacity scooters. They don't even wet their beak in this topic.

good points Rocket. @ hybrid, why be negative? Just bash on a EBR collaboration that may yield potential sales, drop prices and open potential markets? the only style it resembles is the KTM. I never saw a bike like this in the 80's

the only style it resembles is the KTM

But style is only one thing. I'm sure a bike like this will compete in a market place where as another example it could rival offerings we're now seeing across the midrange capcities from the likes of MV with their new Rivales and Dragster models.

Just thinking out the box a little.

the vertical water cooled 650cc twin looks interesting. I was only addressing the negative comments about the styling. I hope it gets built and sells well. I also would like to see EBR share the name plate at least in the states and Europe. Help get the name out. A LOT of people still have no clue what a buell is

I tend to agree on the name thing Aaron.

If it said Buell on the Hastur I'm sure more would accept it. Some will no doubt give it that stigma thing I was talking about, it being an unfamiliar name and produced in India, and not give it a second glance.

Buell is a well known name in the UK. I imagine a lot of motorcycle savvy types will have seen or heard of EBR by now over here. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the EBR name is equally as well known as Buell as a brand.

What will be interesting is how EBR will be perceived with the Hero connection. WSBK and Hastur should show the mainstream biking community Hero is to be taken seriously.

If only WSBK though, this will perhaps serve EBR well but maybe not so for Hero unless they bring good bikes to market. I do feel Hero need a bike like the Hastur to show they're not only capable of producing bikes of a similar type or standard as the big players, but that they're serious about breaking into the global leisure motorcycle market.

If not a Hastur, Hero still need to bring a contemporary motorcycle to market. If not one as extreme styled as a Hastur, then at least one as good to look at as anything else it is going to compete for sales with. When the Chinese tried this (not Japanese copies), they brought some out of date styles to market, and of a lesser build standard than say the Japanese. All be it at a lower price, but they've failed to break into the markets Hero and EBR will target. Hero should not follow how China have gone and bikes as contemporary as the Hastur should be the foundation of where they are wanting to go. With or without EBR it could be great for either company or both.

HERO Motorcorp has incredible capital and manufacturing ability, They now are in pursuit of world class engineering, quality, distribution and support.

Would you rather have a machine engineered by Buell/EBR but built reluctantly by Harley Davidson, or a machine engineered by Buell/EBR and built passionately by Hero?

I'd look at the Hastur for sure if I was in that market.

Im being negative because its an ugly motorcycle.
I dont care who had a hand in it - its still ugly to me

And so what if its their first time venturing into THAT particular market -thats an excuse for ugly styling?

Im not being negative for negatives sake (thats for city thread), Im voicing my opinion.
And truth is - if ANYONE else had put this out most would say the same thing Im saying, youre only backing it because of the EB connection.

I didn't like the firebolt front end either, nor the 1125's. But I don't like race replicas in general in the first place, so I'm a lousy datapoint.

A Hastur with some vintage M2 parts could look pretty cool.

Different strokes - different folks.......I personally think it is one of the best looking bikes I have ever seen.

With 80 hp and 352 lbs it should be fun to say the least. Makes my 35hp 330 lb DRZSM feel very uneasy about its spot in the stable.

@ Court, I would not even consider an Indian built motorcycle. but with EBR on board and their design team. I might.. Like I posted above, I hope it does get built, sells like a MOFO and help EBR get more distribution and models sold. Therefore bringing down prices and making a new 1190 or models that may follow affordable to the masses

Who cares if it's made by 10 year old kids in India,As long as it says EBR. No matter what the name is on the tank it will be a rebranded Indian bike.

HERO Motorcorp has incredible capital and manufacturing ability, They now are in pursuit of world class engineering, quality, distribution and support.

For a company with such history and financial clout I was under the impression they'd already found world class engineering, quality, distribution and support??

I was hoping the Hastur was the beginning of the end game towards production. Your comments Court, tell me the Hastur show bike, and likely the toe dip into WSBK racing, both are nothing more than a dangling carrot exercise in pursuit of those things you bring to light.

Perhaps you'd care to confirm otherwise with hard facts as I would be disappointed not to see the Hastur make production. Nor would I be happy to see EBR Hero in WSBK if they only intend to race to fill a list like the one you mention, in preference to not doing the very best they could with the financial clout they have. Especially if their fledgling efforts with Buell on board prove to be more than worthwhile. In fact, the more I think about it I'm left wondering why they just don't make an all out assault for the WSBK title like BMW have done with their first foray into Superbike manufacture racing their SR1000. It's not like they can't afford to. So what really is going on if Hero are so wealthy. So experienced. And the largest two wheeler manufacturer in the world. Care to share?

All I can do is shake my head.. One of the best engineering minds is behind the design and build. I walk away from this page.. when all I hear is negativity and preconceived notions based on ignorance when buell people (of all) should show positivity and encourage EBR. sounds like HERO beats anything H/D di for mr. buell

Yep - A certain Primus song comes to mind...

In any case, it looks it could raced in at least 3 or 4 WERA classes. If the price is right, that could be a good time.

Nice bike I want one of the 2012 hero pit bikes EBR had at Daytona! Cute little bike Reminds me of my first 60s Jap bikes.
Enjoy bikes for what they are.
