I suspect if you’re reading this post, you probably have an interest in innovative design, going fast, and hanging low on curves. The typical ski video showcases speed and curves, but hardly ever innovation. This ski vid is an exception.

Cool video. I don't think I'll ever go back to my home town again though. Too damn depressing seeing what has become of Detroit.

If you can't see past the blight then please stay away. There is a lot of positive things going on here and we do not need your negativity.

Thanks for you interest, don't call us we'll call you...

No problem. Happy to stay where the blight isn't a problem.

I wish you wouldn't call me. Every time you do it's to get money to help fix your blight.

Pretty talented bunch of kids there. Back in the day, I'd have given it a go, but now I'm old and frail, and my knees hurt just watching them.

Let me be a bit more direct. THIS... http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/12/05/detroit -councilwoman-to-obama-voted-for-now-bail-us-out/ is unacceptable without MAJOR change in how things are done in Detroit. Same problem for many big cities in the US. An please take Michael Moore back to your corner of the state. He takes up way too much space up in T.C.!

Just got back from a Lacrosse tournament in Detroit. We weren't in the city proper, closer to Pontiac, but that's very close to Detroit. The people and the area were wonderful.

I also appreciate that MI is a CCW carry friendly state, so for areas that aren't great, at least they haven't stripped me of my right to defend myself up front. Unlike Baltimore (which is probably every bit as bad as Detroit, just less visibly blighted).

THe change is coming from the private sector like a lot of the groups I volunteer with. But if Fox News is your only source of information I can understand your confusion and ignorance on the issue.

While I am not a fan of Mr Moore I would take him back, I can see past peoples opinions and crappy movies. Hell he may be the coolest person to have a beer with who knows, I haven't met him have you???

The link was to demonstrate that we weren't the only ones asking for a bailout and to show what happened when NYC got said bailout.

And who says I am a dem and I agree with getting/asking for a bailout?

You are always quick to assume and that's what makes your hastily written and anger riddled posts so hilarious! Keep it up your posts always make me laugh.

Did we learn nothing from the fannie may fiasco? Buying bad mortgages with money backed by the tax payer, and insuring bad mortgages with money backed by the taxpayer are effectively the same thing.

Idiots.

I really don't care if it's Detroit, NYC, or Chicago asking for the bailout. Bailing out cities after decades of mismanagement needs to stop.

Who says you're a Dem? I don't know. It wasn't me. Given your views of my posts, and others you've commented on in the past, you clearly are no conservative. That's quite apparent. Go ahead and laugh at the posts. Good to know you are reading them! Maybe there's hope.

Let's not pollute this thread with politics (and I apologize for doing so).

How are they propelling themselves with those ropes? Are the other people pulling them? It isn't clear from the video.

Looks to me like most are bungee ropes. In one part they show a skier going back and forth while the "crew" resets the bungee for the next return. Some were obvious tows from a vehicle (the river skiing). No doubt these guys are creative.

I was figuring out the ropes also! Most look like bungee ropes, which is a really clever idea. My kid will like it. Much easier than climbing a hill.

A few videos I thought i heard a small 4 stroke motor, so maybe a gas powered winch or a small dirtbike pulling them?

Boys, boys, boys! As a 1952 alumnus of Plymouth General Hospital I ask that we all try to get along. I've been California dreaming since 1963 but am contemplating moving back to MI, albeit to the UP and not the Detroit area. Tired of the perpetual droughts here - both natural and man-made - 105* summers, insane politics and illegal immigration. Adios, muchachos.

Given those time-elapsed sequences, even as cold as it prolly was, I bet they stayed warm!

J********! Can we have one thread here without some anti Obama b***s***? It's a ski video. C*****!

The unmentionable has only been mentioned a single time by you. Why Spidey leaped into the political spectrum, well, you can just ask him. Odd that I haven't seen a single post from him for a long time, but this is what he chose to do. Make of that what you will.

My comments about what Detroit has become were not political and simply a comparison of where I was born and what it has become. It's awesome what these guys are doing with an abandoned city, but it's still sad for me to see. Sorry if anyone finds that as political. If you do, what does that say about you?

Back to the urban skiing.

WRONG! It is a ski video about Detroit! I recently was denied the opportunity to work in Detroit...you get to see the very best and the very worst.

Living in rainbows and daisys everyday gets pretty boring...

Can you please refrain from the blasphemy? Do you have to resort to profaning the name of God in order to get your point (what point, I know not) across?

And... now that I've watched the video I can say those young men are truly blessed with some great talents.

Interesting to me that they are on skis, not snowboards.

Thanks for sharing that.

One thing blighted inner city areas present is an opportunity for private sector investment, but it doesn't happen without decent security. That's one thing that government at the local level MUST provide. Typically, the more left leaning types object to what they view as over-reach of law enforcement to the detriment of the "under-privileged." If only they'd talk to the responsible working parents in such areas. Typically they are pleading for better, more aggressive policing to eradicate the gangs and drug lords.

Bad/overzealous cops greatly harm such efforts, as does the media, which seems to only sympathize with citizen victims, rarely if ever the police.

Thats the interesting point of this thread, the ski video itself *was* political, at least in the sense that there is clearly a political aspect to the security and prosperity issues facing major parts of detroit.

So a respectful dialog about the topic was exactly one of the goals of the video in the first place. Well done to the skiers.
