I just heard an interesting commentary on the new rules in the Senate regarding the filibuster. It was pointed out that if the Republicans get a majority in both houses and a Republican President, ObamaDontCare can then be repealed by a simple majority and there will not be a thing the Dumbocrats can do about it. Very interesting point! | ||

I think the recent change to a 51 vote majority they need to end debate only applies to confirmations. A simple majority is all that is required for a lot of things. Confirming nominations was one of the things that required a supermajority. | ||

No, it's a simple majority for Presidential confirmations. They could be blocked by filibuster though, and it required a super-majority to override the filibuster. Under the new rules it will only take a simple majority to override the filibuster. | ||

For the vote, yes. The vote to end debate required a supermajorty, as I stated previously. That's what a filibuster is, prolonging the debate so that an actual vote can not take place. | ||

That is so. He did promise that power costs would skyrocket. I bet you haven't seen anything yet. He's only begun to issue Executive Orders on Carbon. The taxes you pay have barely begun to rise. Like the number of people on public assistance, the number out of work, & the number forced to pay more for food and health care...all have gone up, and will continue to do so for at least the rest of this regime. I am probably signing off for a while. City and FB1 are correct. I, too, am out of words. I have attempted to provide commentary, documentary evidence, and humor to show that we are on a collision course with an increasingly tyrannical Government that knows all and tells you what to do with every breath of your miserable lives... to no avail. The mendacity is there for all Americans to see yet The Lie persists despite the bright light of reason and fact. The Obama-crats scream for their free set of chains. You are willing to overlook the unbelievable UTTER hypocrisy of every Democrat over the 200+ year old filibuster rule, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, IRS, control of the Census, spying on reporters, NSA, the lie of Obamacare, the racial, sexual and class warfare waged by the Obama-crats, Syria, Iran, Libya, Egypt, the dismissal of Israel, GM, nationalization of student loans, Trayvon, and I am just getting started. Enjoy your food stamps and free Obama phone. Just remember that they rattle if you listen carefully with just the right kind of ear. At this point, our country is virtually lost. Possibly the best strategy is to give Obama, Hillary, Reid, and Pelosi absolutely everything they want so that the country disintegrates faster. The dollar will no longer be the world currency but our Brave New Communist Paradise will be short lived as we flop into third world mediocrity. We will then arise and meet our enemies in the street. I am ashamed of every Liberal and Progressive on this board for their silence, lack of intellect, and complicity. Reindog, While I fully understand your frustration with the current situation, I hope you still stop in and share from time to time. I know it helps me to know there are others who share my views. It does seem as if Democrats, liberals, progressives, socialists, communists, or whatever label they want to go by today are blindly following a terrible path and are unwilling to even discuss why. I've often wondered how Germany went down the path it did under Hitler. How could it's people possibly have let that happen. I feel like I'm getting some insight into that question lately. I find it terrifying. I wonder if they understand what they are doing, but they won't even have a discussion about it. They seem willing to support the lies and deceit, so I can only conclude that they are willing partners. I'm still hopeful that the 2014 and 2016 elections will be the sea change that our country needs to recover from the damage done under the current pResident. If it isn't happening by then, I fear that it really is the collapse of our once great country. Until then, keep your powder dry. I have been beating the hedgerows about this mess for years. And to be fair - it did start under Bush with TARP; but the speed and depth that this country has gone to the socialist meme is astounding. To quote the Polish gentleman of merit. America can well live past a Barack Obama - it cannot survive a public that would willfully vote him in .....(twice) As my generation (Gen - X) never thought we would see the end of the Soviet Union and Communism in Russia ..... The furniture store down the street put a nice big chair on their front lawn, I'm typing about a seat that is a good 6' off the ground, with everything else sized accordingly, right after Mr. Eastwood made that statement. Pretty cool to see, right? The furniture store was an amish store, and while I've only been living here a little over two years, they've been here the duration advertising on my favorite local radio station and always seemingly doing good business. Just last month, and finishing up this month, they had a going out of business sale. I don't know for sure, as I don't know the owners, their business model, or the aspirations, but it does make one wonder. interesting and somewhat scary times.... | ||

I'm not happy with several things, ( I usually am not happy with several things, no matter who's in the White House ) and I confess ignorance of a few items, like...... How we doing supporting AQ in Syria? Have we decided to let the Russians take the lead, keep their Med. port? Are there any Christians left in the AQ occupied territories? How are they being treated? Is the Muslim Brotherhood rape gang method still in use? When Iran nukes Israel, are we going to take the survivors? When Israel nukes Tehran, Mecca, Qom, etc. are we going to pay reparations? I must have missed any frank and honest discussion of these matters on tv. So I appeal to those fans of this regime ( especially if you claim not to have voted for it ) to provide some insight into the probable policies we are using, and what the reasoning might be... Because we sure as sin can't expect Barack to tell us. |
