I'm not understanding some responses. HD decides to try something new, something many have been screaming about for years, yet they still get lambasted?
I don't think this is a totally bad idea. They opened up some markets with a cheap bike that uses a LC motor. What's wrong with that?
The 500 will no doubt be the Blast replacement for the Edge program. Its a bike that newbs can afford and can test ride by going through Riders Edge.
Would I buy it? No, no chance in hell, but I'm sure they're going to sell a ton of these things.
"When the street is where you live, it starts to live in you. True of a rider. True of a motorcycle. The look of the Harley-Davidson Street™ 750 and 500 motorcycles comes from the street. Born out of the custom tradition of tearing down a motorcycle to its raw, minimal essence and letting the pure rebellion inherent in the lines of the machine come screaming through. This is the essential attitude."
A creative career in copy writing awaits you in the new and exciting field of motorcycling !
I was all for it until I realized they didn't do anything new on their own. It's a copy of a copy and it used all foreign parts and stuff. Then the way it's marketed. All pure BS
"Harley sees the Street competing with bikes such as Honda’s Rebel. That model, with a 234 cc engine, starts at $4,190 and is one of Honda’s more popular lightweight models. That potential has the dealer base excited, said Levatich, who showed the Street to the national dealer council last month. " via Bloomberg.... interesting

I'm kinda with 'chinashop on this. Enough with the vitriol - snow's not even hitting the ground yet...
I'd still rather have an Iron over one of these, but d@mn this looks good
Cycle World's December issue has a blurb about this bike. They say it's from India. I'm curious to see how it does.
The 750 makes ~54hp? That's it?
Agreed, there's nothing Earth shattering about that, but neither is 103hp from a 1200 cc Buell. Sounds reasonable for the type of bike, especially if it has a typical Harley torque curve.
Odd, my Cycle World article makes no mention of the torque. It does say it makes about 50hp though.
Triumph Bonneville claims 50 ft/lbs of torque from an 865 cc motor. It weighs more too. OK, I might snore at that too, but it is reasonable for it's class.
it will be another XR1200 experience (a bike I really like) The XR1200 was a bike I would have seriously considered buying if it was $4000-$5000 cheaper, but at $13,000 it was just overpriced. If the 750 street is in the $7000-$8000 price range I think it will go a long way toward helping sales. An affordable entry level or commuter bike could be a good move for HD, I kind of like it. I just wonder if it has any cornering clearance
