From the "When you've lost the Huffington Post" file:

Another Obamacare Deadline Blunder Is Worrying Democrats
Updated: 10/31/2013 9:46 pm EDT

WASHINGTON -- Senate Democrats facing reelection next year aren't just fretting about a balky website and President Barack Obama's misleading campaign statements on health care. Now they've begun worrying about another deadline a year away.

According to an Affordable Care Act timetable established by administration officials, early next October insurance companies will announce their new menu of health care plans for the ACA marketplaces -- plans that may be more varied and numerous than those offered this year, but that almost certainly will come with higher prices.

The likely price hikes will hit the individual and small-business insurance markets only weeks before Election Day on Nov. 4, 2014. [emphasis mine]

"What genius came up with that timetable?" asked one key Democrat, who declined to be quoted by name because he is involved in private White House talks.

...The president's job approval rating is already down to 42 percent in the new NBC poll, the lowest of his presidency in that survey. [emphasis mine]

...Eleven Senate Democrats, most of them running for reelection in 2014, have asked the administration to postpone the deadline for obtaining individual insurance past the current date of March 31...It's not clear that the 11 senators really expect a deadline change or whether they are asking for it simply to show voters back home that they're concerned.

'Agitated' Dems vent on ObamaCare woes
By Alexander Bolton - 10/31/13

Senate Democrats vented their frustrations over the faulty rollout of the Affordable Care Act in a meeting Thursday with White House chief of staff Denis McDonough and other senior officials.

“There’s a lot of frustration, everywhere,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said after the meeting.

...Democratic senators facing reelection in 2014 were some of the most vocal critics.

One lawmaker described Sens. Al Franken (D-Minn.) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) as visibly “agitated."

...Lawmakers discussed a proposal by Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) to let people keep their health plans, even if they fall short of the requirements set under the new law, according to another lawmaker in the room.

Landrieu expects several Democrats to co-sponsor the proposal.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) told reporters that he plans to sign onto Landrieu’s bill.

Obamacare enrollments got off to very slow start, documents show
By Sharyl Attkisson, Oct 31, 2013 6:41 p.m.

(CBS News) WASHINGTON - For 31 days now, the Obama administration has been telling us that Americans by the millions are visiting the new health insurance website, despite all its problems.

But no one in the administration has been willing to tell us how many policies have been purchased, and this may be the reason: CBS News has learned enrollments got off to an incredibly slow start.

Early enrollment figures are contained in notes from twice-a-day "war room" meetings convened within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services after the website failed on Oct. 1. They were turned over in response to a document request from the House Oversight Committee.

The website launched on a Tuesday. Publicly, the government said there were 4.7 million unique visits in the first 24 hours. But at a meeting Wednesday morning, the war room notes say "six enrollments have occurred so far."

They were with BlueCross BlueShield North Carolina and Kansas City, CareSource and Healthcare Service Corporation.

By Wednesday afternoon, enrollments were up to "approximately 100." By the end of Wednesday, the notes reflect "248 enrollments" nationwide.

..The notes leave no doubt that some enrollment figures, which the administration has chosen to keep secret, are available.

"Statistics coming in," said notes from the very first meeting the morning of Oct. 2. Contractor "QSSI has a daily dashboard created every night."

But head of CMS Marilyn Tavenner would not disclose any figures when Rep. Dave Camp, chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, asked earlier this week.

"Chairman Camp, we will have those numbers available in mid-November," she said.

I can get on to the state site and found that depending on where I adjusted my income the premiums were all over the place, all but the very highest levels of coverage were poor in terms of service and with hospitals dropping their participation. ( there are only 2 or 3 close in to me ) this cant be good.

I would love to get into the grill of the chump in charge and give him an ass chewing

"I just want the dumplings."

ObamaCare's Authoritarian Problem
By David Harsanyi · Nov. 1, 2013

quote:

Excerpts:

It's almost as if some people believe lying is acceptable – even preferable – if the political outcomes are morally pleasing to them. Many Obamacare supporters, in fact, are beginning to sound as if they couldn't care less about process, the law, order, competence or anything that undermines the goal of putting your health care choices into more capable hands.
...
Let me put it this way: There's this Chinese restaurant near my house. It's not the cleanest place, granted. And the folks who “work” there are, it seems, completely uninterested in my dining experience. The food is priced accordingly. But I love the dumplings. It's really all that matters to me. There's another Chinese place nearby. This one is newer. It has a friendly and attractive staff. It offers me clean silverware, and I walk on expensive contemporary tiles. All that classy stuff is nice, and it's also embedded into the price of my dumplings – which are no better. I don't want to pay for the tiles. I just want the dumplings.

This is interesting:

quote:

CNN reports, Senate Democrats supported rule that led to insurance cancellations:

quote:

Senate Democrats voted unanimously three years ago to support the Obamacare rule that is largely responsible for some of the health insurance cancellation letters that are going out.

In September 2010, Senate Republicans brought a resolution to the floor to block implementation of the grandfather rule, warning that it would result in canceled policies and violate President Barack Obama’s promise that people could keep their insurance if they liked it.

...On a party line vote, Democrats killed the resolution, which could come back to haunt vulnerable Democrats up for re-election this year.

These vulnerable Senate Dems who are up for reelection in 2014 [who] helped kill the grandfathering fix: Mary Landrieu, Jeanne Shaheen, Mark Pryor, Kay Hagan and Mark Begich. [emphasis mine]

So I understand that if you are lucky enough to actually get signed in (I still can't even register, and a quick web search makes it clear I'm not alone) and start "shopping" for insurance, it still falls far short. You aren't provided with necessary (or accurate) information that is necessary to make an informed decision. This leaves you having to contact the insurance companies to actually get the needed information. I knew this was true with the information provided when you aren't logged in, but it seems to be the case even after you have provided sensitive information about you and your family to an unsecure web site.

Never mind for a second the debacle of none of this actually working as designed. The fact is that our government has spend three years and hundreds of millions of dollars on a design that is lacking in the first place. Then people wonder when some of us are distrustful of the government to run anything well.

Now I see why the lawyers put that statement in the website about having no expectation of privacy with the data you provide. Think they knew ahead of time it was this bad? They just send your information out to other random people.

http://blog.heritage.org/2013/11/02/exclusive-heal thcare-gov-users-warn-of-security-risk-breach-of-p rivacy/

quote:

After multiple attempts to access the problem-plagued website, Hadley finally made it past the registration page Thursday. That’s when he was greeted with downloadable letters about eligibility — for two people in South Carolina.
...
Hadley reached out to Dougall on Friday to notify him of the breach. Dougall, who spoke to Heritage this evening, said he was evaluating health care options in early October. Dougall said he was able to register on HealthCare.gov, but decided not to sign up for insurance.

“The plans they offered were grossly expensive and didn’t provide the level of care I have now,” he said.

Oh, and the issue of the plans being offered being "grossly expensive".

Things must really be going well, taking the site down numerous times for "extended maintenance". I thought "maintenance" was something that is done periodically to keep a system working well. What we have here is simply bug fixes (probably poorly tested if past history of these same developers is any indication).

http://www.myfoxny.com/story/23861124/deep-sleep-o bamacare-site-goes-offline-for-extended-maintenanc e

And, of course we have people who are finding that they can neither keep their insurance, their doctor, or their savings.

Never fear though, the Democrats have a plan to pass even more laws telling doctors that they are legally bound to treat patients on Medicare/Medicaid. Nothing says freedom like the government stepping in and telling you what you need to do in your private practice.

http://masonconservative.typepad.com/the_mason_con servative/2013/11/virginia-democrat-calls-for-forc ing-doctors-to-accept-medicare-and-medicaid-patien ts.html

I just can't wait to see what other laws are spawned by this steaming pile of liberal legislation. There really never is any end to it, is there?

Since Euthanasia is a major part of the ACA's cost saving initiative, Applying it to the Politicians responsible is the only way to fix the Program.

That statement may be in violation of Federal law, and is therefor declared to be a parody, and applies only to Latvian politicians.

I admit to moments of inappropriate levity. For example, Nancy Pelosi getting a "vaccine" at the Clinic, and being told she'll find out what's in the injection after she's passed.

Affordable Boat Act

The U. S. government has just passed a new law called: "The Affordable Boat Act" declaring that every citizen MUST purchase a new boat, by April 2014.
These "affordable" boats will cost an average of $54,000-$155, 000 each.
This does not include taxes, trailers, towing fees, licensing, registration fees, fuel, docking and storage fees, maintenance or repair costs.

This law has been passed, because until now, typically only wealthy and financially responsible people have been able to purchase boats.
This new law ensures that every American can now have a affordableboat of their own, because everyone is "entitled" to a new boat.
If you purchase your boat before the end of the year, you will receive 4"free"life jackets; not including monthly usage fees.

In order to make sure everyone purchases an affordable boat, the costs of owning a boat will increase on average of250-400%peryear. This way, wealthy people will pay more for something that other people don't want or
can't afford to maintain.
But to be fair, people who can't afford to maintain their boat will be regularly fined and children (under the age of 26) can use their parents boats to party on until they turn 27, then must purchase their own boat.

If you already have a boat, you can keep yours (just kidding, no you can't).
If you don't want or don't need a boat, you are required to buy one anyhow.
If you refuse to buy one or can't afford one, you will be regularly fined $800 until you purchase one or face imprisonment.

Failure to use the boat will also result in fines. People living in the desert, ghettos, inner cities or areas with no access to lakes are not exempt.
Age,motion sickness, experience, knowledge nor lack of desire are not acceptable excuses for not using your boat.

A government review board (that doesn't know the difference between the port, starboard or stern of a boat) will decide everything, including; when, where, how often and for what purposes you can use your boat along with how many people can ride your boat and determine if one is too old or healthy enough to be able to use their boat. They will also decide if your
boat has out lived its usefulness or if you must purchase specific accessories,(like a $500 compass) or a newer and more expensive boat.

Those that can afford yachts will be required to do so,it's only fair.
The government will also decide the name for each boat. Failure to comply with these rules will result in fines and possible imprisonment.

Government officials are exempt from this new law. If they want a boat, they and their families can obtain boats free, at the expense of tax payers.
Unions, bankers and mega companies with large political affiliations ($$$)are also exempt.

If the government can force you to buy health care, they can force you to buy a boat....or ANYTHING else..

From Kaiser.... a brief view of why they do not understand insurance.

"Q. I’m healthy. Why do I have to pay for people who are sick?

A. Except for a fortunate few, everyone is likely to develop some kind of health problem or face an accident sometime in their lives. Policy experts and regulators say insurance works best when it spreads risk across a large group of people. Your house may not burn down this year, but you pay for insurance coverage just in case. "

Your house is an individual policy, not a group rated policy, nor is it based what your neighbors house is - unless they are a chemical plant !

Your risk is underwritten on the value of loss of replacement cost, upon tax assessed value, square footage, and premium risk exposure of the region for fires (ie - you live away from a fire district in some scenic retreat - expect your rates to be higher)

He was out today telling us "what I said was . . . "

It would be an interesting argument, if we argued about the desirability of the end product of the ACA, which is socialized medicine.

Don't have any doubt, it is what Barack Obama says he wants, and he has said so repeatedly in the only venue in which he actually speaks the Truth. SEIU and Communist/leftist/neomarxist fund raisers.

You may argue his motivation is pure greed evil and he lies to all people all the time.... but experience shows that what he says to groups of leftists, and on NPR, ( same thing ) are things he actually DOES.

So either he's a committed and lousy leftist, ( lousy, both as a moral judgment on Obama, and to his understanding of things beyond the slogan level ) or he's satan with a suit, pretending to be.... and since there's no way to tell the difference, just assume a lifetime's of indoctrination in neo-marxist thought is in effect here.

But enough about the guy who "didn't know" anything was possibly imperfect about his ACA dream. We know he was lying, so skip that crap for now.

The ACA is meant to create the disaster ( that we see in progress ) that creates the demand for "single payer" aka Socialized Medicine ( SM for short ), aka Govt. bureaucrat administration of your life.

Economists like Paul Krugman are convinced that SM is needed since the semi socialized nature of our system doesn't work, perfectly. IMHO it gets worse the MORE socialized it gets, the more expensive and broken it gets, but I'm not a Nobel Prize winning Economist, so all I understand is 2+2=4.

My objection to tax paid "free" medicine, is the nature of the political beast is that they spend more than is possible until they crash everything, in the quest to buy votes. Because of that, with the possible exception of Canada's, most SM systems seem to be far worse than ours.

OTOH, many people think it's a grand idea, Including my Father, who, were I King, would put in charge of our SM. As a retired Navy Corpsman ( pronounced core-man, Mr. Presidnet ) who worked for decades as a pharmaceutical detail man, he could probably do a good job.

Of course when he retired, it'd go to hell, but it might work for a while.

Opinions?

Because the Admin. estimated 2+ years ago that this next year 193 million folk with insurance through their employer are going to lose it, and spaz the F*&^ out.

I don't know if this will cause a political sea change, or if the desired result ( SM ) will take place, but it's not going to be pretty.

So we'd better have an idea of how we want SM to work because odds are, we're either getting it. Or nothing.

I think there are other choices. I am seeing pools of wealthy folks forming groups and hiring doctors.

3,700,000 folks' insurance cancelled (with only half the states reporting) since October 1st.

My fear is less to do with insurance as it is with the overall economy when suddenly 125,000,000 folks are spending 41% more on health care and this do not have that money to consume in other segments of the economy.

Unless they stop paying their electric bill . . I'm fine. But if I were a car dealer, I'd be watching closely.

I hear you Court and have been wondering the same thing.

However, now the "poor" will get free health care and can take out car loans that the government can subsidize with Clunkers II. Cool off, comrade, it's all good. Kinda smells like Atlas Shrugged is really starting to happen.

My only goal here is to have one, I mean ONE, Liberal Badwebhead, wake up and admit that this path leads to ruin.
