Technically, a cracker is a Florida cattleman. Most are white or Hispanic.

They acknowledge the term refers to their skill with a bullwhip, but insist that they and their ancestors only used the whips on cows. Whipping a slave would reduce his value.

We have a "Crackerfest" here in Melbourne every year to celebrate local cattle culture.

This was a confrontation between a homeowner and a thug that didn't go the way the thug had planned.

When someone jumps you from behind, sits on you, and knocks your skull into the cement, it reduces both your ability and your inclination to consider his civil rights.

But neighborhood watch volunteers are supposed to be unarmed, so the Martin family will collect big on their civil suit against the homeowner's association.

I'll never understand why people "I used to consider smart"...absolutely think that Travon was a pillar of the community and was gunned downed/murdered. Are they blind? Spoon-fed? assimilated? I don't get it. What am I missing that they didn't?

Why do some people think a particular politician is great when it's really obvious that he lies all the time?
( won't even pick one.... go ahead, I know you can )

When every "news" source you watch tells you the same lie, why shouldn't you believe it? When the same people tell you that Faux news is not a legit news service, why shouldn't you believe it?
When they tell you all your country's troubles are because of the Jew Bankers, why shouldn't you believe it?

When they tell you that it's a kindness to separate certain groups of people from society, for their own protection, Why shouldn't you believe it?

After all, the News you watch never mentions any deaths at the Concentration camps That one President (D) sent the Japanese to, or the murders caused by the guns another has sent to drug gangs in Mexico, or the murder called out for by the protesters paid with your money by another minion in the Exec. Branch........

So, it's understandable that people repeat what they are told, even if that is false info for evil purposes.

That's why I don't just pay attention to one source. The Brits have a different perspective, the French another, Fox, NPR, listen to each, curse out the radio when appropriate, and keep salt handy.

I used to joke that if you take Rush, and NPR, and split the difference, you'd be close to the truth..... But NPR got worse, and Rush got dumber, so I suspect it's now Glenn Beck & NPR, and shade it only 30% NPR.

What you SHOULD do is pay a little attention to who lies the worst to you. When they cut 911 calls to change the meaning, pay attention to that, and know that they lie, and remember. Don't trust them again.

And never trust any source owned by the Rat Kingdom. Enjoy the show, just don't buy the news pitch.

You're referring, of course, to MSNBC, or BSNBC, to be more precise, home of Dear Leader's cabal of talking attack dogs, disguised (loosely) as journalists. Pravda, with a rabid 24/7 bite.

I hear their ratings are in a free fall (graphed out, I imagine their plummet closely matches that of Dear Leader). When asked why, a former anchor and employee for BullShitNBC - David Shuster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Shuster), said:

quote:

"When you're too predictably a mouthpiece for the administration and you cast your lot with the president's performance, there's a risk."

Source: http://www.nationaljournal.com/politics/what-s-beh ind-msnbc-s-ratings-decline-20130711

Yeah, the risk is that your viewers eventually find the stench too offensive. This is a man who knows the inner workings of BSNBC intimately saying, in essence, that the network is nothing more or less than state-run media. Comes as no surprise to anyone who's been paying attention. Follow your nose.

What's interesting to me is that in spite of BSNBC's obvious, vicious, relentless, racist, hate-baiting far-left bias, and despite taking a virtual beating in the ratings (presidential solidarity?), they STILL have an incredible amount of influence on the general public's perception of "the news." I guess low-information voters and low-information viewers are one in the same.

Breitbart famously said, "The media is EVERYTHING." Or words to that effect. How true.

If we actually had an honest media in this country, instead of Pravda on electronic steroids, we'd be far better off. Thank goodness for the good ones out there.

Interesting interview in which Alan Dershowitz says the DOJ should bring civil rights charges against the Florida prosecutor since she moved to prosecute AFTER the FBI and AFTER the police and AFTER the DA said there was nothing prosecutable.

Dershowitz interview on DOJ: 6 minutes

If we're talking civil rights violations, it is Zimmerman whose rights were violated.

Agreed:

Post-Zimmerman Acquittal: Civil Rights, Immunity, and Perjury

Well, that’s it. George Zimmerman has his legal victory. Late in the night on Saturday, July 13, 2013, George officially survived a brutal and malicious legal assault backed by the full power of a State government intent on hanging a life sentence on an innocent man on the sole basis of emotional appeal and racial politics.

...In truth this is not the end of Zimmerman’s travails with the consequences wrought by that winter night’s ambush. Today there remain several serious threats lurking just out of the light of campfire. Of these, the greatest remains the continuing death threats against George Zimmerman in particular, and his family in general. That danger, however, falls outside the realm of legal analysis, and so outside our purview.

That leaves at least three substantive and serious threats facing the Zimmerman’s that seem appropriate for this forum:

(1) Federal Government Seeking Civil Rights Action
Unsatisfied with Zimmerman’s just acquittal in a Florida trial court, racial agitators and their mainstream media sycophants are now seeking to have their government bring Federal criminal charges against Zimmerman. Such charges would claim that Zimmerman violated the civil rights of a 17-year-old black “child” whose cell phone data suggests an interest in pot smoking, gun dealing, street fighting, and burglary (although presumably the charging document would stop with the word “child”).

An initial assessment suggests that the basis for any such Federal civil rights action is just as specious as were the second degree murder charges against Zimmerman. The fact that the State criminal charges proved laughably inadequate for a criminal conviction did not keep Zimmerman from having to endure a trial on those charges, however, one wonders if any more prosecutorial maturity can be expected of the Holder Department of Justice...

(2) Threat of Civil Suit for Wrongful Death Against Zimmerman
Those of you who were around and attentive during the OJ Simpson trials will recall that although he was found not guilty at the criminal trial he was nevertheless found legally liable for the 1992 killing of his wife, Nicole Simpson. (In preparation for the unfavorable civil verdict Simpson moved essentially all of his assets to Florida, which provides considerable protection against creditors, including judgment holders, for certain assets, such as one’s multi-million dollar home.) It is possible, then, that the Martin family and advisors may seek to take a similar action against George Zimmerman, particularly if they perceived that Zimmerman himself will be successful in suing NBC and others who maliciously defamed him following the events of February 26...

(3) Shellie Zimmerman Faces Perjury Charges, August 21
George Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie, has been charged with perjury by the same gang of State prosecutors who excreted the second degree murder affidavit of probable cause against her husband.

An initial review of the facts suggests that this perjury charge–just like the overcharging on second degree murder and the malicious denial of courtroom access to George Zimmerman’s parents–was intended to break Zimmerman’s will and, failing that, disrupt his defense. Professor Jacobson has already begun excellent coverage on this issue– ("Next up: Florida v. Shellie Zimmerman," http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/07/next-up-flori da-v-shellie-zimmerman/ ) –and so to defer ongoing coverage the matter to him...

Oldog, thanks for the sources you list. I don't do Fox much, but not because I don't like/agree with their viewpoints.

I get 99.9% of my news from the internet. American Thinker is an excellent source, as you mentioned, as is the Patriot Post (http://patriotpost.us/), although I seldom follow their news links; I mostly read Mark Alexander's essays, and the editorials ("The Right Opinion") from his cadre of contributing conservative journalists.

I have also found Legal Insurrection to be invaluable, particularly since their slant is viewing "the news" from a legal perspective. Also, there is usually much to be learned from reading the "comments" section on any piece on Legal Insurrection. Sure, there's some chaff, but most of the commenters are legal types and the conversations are usually intelligent and respectful.

LI also has an extremely viable Tip Line, which is an awesome source for news and/or links to news: http://legalinsurrection.com/focus/tips/

Oldog, an interesting aside about Andrew Breitbart that I think many folks are not aware of. Have you ever wondered what got him started in his crusade to expose corruption in federal government and the mainstream media (yeah, I know, they're one in the same)?

He took exception to the cruel, abusive treatment of a black man:

quote:

Previously left-leaning in his politics, Breitbart changed his political views after experiencing an "epiphany" during the late 1991 confirmation hearings for Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas...

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Breitbart

It's funny (not) that the left still continues to vilify Breitbart to this day, when, in fact, he "got his start" vigorously defending the civil rights of a black man.

Are there any protest's that are not racially motivated? That are motivated towards CCW or the Stand your ground law?? I think he would approve those.

I cringe every time I hear someone speak of racial profiling from this case. The kid could have been any race or color and Zimmerman would have done the same thing. He didn't know it was a kid and he didn't positively know he was a black kid until the confrontation and at that point (according to GZ) TM was making gansta threats.

What if TM was a real criminal?? Zimmerman would probably be dead.

This thread was started re: the State's "star" witness, who spoke to CNN ("The most trusted name in news" ) last night.

quote:

Zimmerman Failed to Understand the Cultural Context in Which He was Being 'Whoop-Assed'
By Joel B. Pollak 16 Jul 2013

Prosecution witness Rachel Jeantel, speaking to Piers Morgan on CNN last night, explained that George Zimmerman had misunderstood the beating he was receiving from Trayvon Martin, and so had the jury in his trial. Zimmerman was not facing a potentially life-threatening "bashing," but simply a "whoop-ass."

quote:

They don't understand, they understand, "Oh, he would just bash, or was kill." When somebody bash somebody, like, blood people, trust me, in the area I live, that's not bashing. That's just called "whoop-ass." You just got your ass whooped. That's what it is.

It was Zimmerman's own fault for not understanding the cultural context in which he was being attacked.

Morgan tried to save Jeantel's statement by asking her whether Martin would have "whooped ass" in self-defense. But the damage was done. For a split second, the camera caught a member of the audience reacting in shock, her jaw dropping at Jeantel's admission--and her apparent expectation that Zimmerman should have understood the supposed cultural practice of "whoop-ass," rather than acting to protect his own life.

Source: http://www.breitbart.com/InstaBlog/2013/07/16/Zimm erman-Failed-to-Understand-the-Racial-Context-in-W hich-He-was-Being-Whooped

If you watch some of the protests you can see and hear radical political language from people more interested in taking this event and using it to further their political agendas. Demonizing people of wealth, capatilism, painting white people with a broad brush etc.

I think they are too bold and deceptive that they will succeed in most of their endeavors.

Depending on your business, would you hire her?

I am thinking she may work out as a talk show host for maybe "The View"

There seems like a growing issue with young people that actually have the desire to work or learn a viable skill.

I think they are too bold and deceptive that they will succeed in most of their endeavors.

On the contrary, I think the actions by the left, including what we've seen in the Zimmerman case, are purposely designed to be "in your face." Our president has certainly not hidden his agenda from view. He knows we're on to him, but he also knows he wields all the power. It's amazing to me, with all the scandals (not a strong enough word) with his name on them, he is STILL the president, and even Congress seems powerless to do anything about it.

If you consider that demoralizing conservative Americans is a very probable high-priority goal of the left, then a lot of the stuff we see and hear going on makes a lot more sense.

I don't think the president and his minions, including the folks involved in bringing Zimmerman to trial, are trying to hide a thing - it's all part of the agenda.
