Did I just spend $46 for a box of 1000 small pistol primers! I hate to say that I did. It was the last box I could find within an hour of my house too. I was also hoping to find more BL-C(2) powder. No luck at all on that. I can see rifle loads are going to go through a pound of powder in a hurry. Cabela's had a bunch of it on the shelf just a couple of weeks ago when I bought the first pound to test it out.

The two big sellers around here have lots of empty shelf space in their pistol cabinets too. One probably had 1/2 empty shelf space, the other about 2/3 empty. They normally have stock in back too. I'm guessing the shelves in back must be bare. Between the two stores there was only one AR platform on the wall. It was a 9mm. The place I got my AR still had one on the wall. The price has gone up $1,025 from what I paid just before Christmas. The only .223 ammo to be found was 50 grain at $15 a box.

I hope this blows over in a few more weeks, or a couple of months at most. I really wasn't an active shooter when the previous weapons ban was put into place. Anyone remember how long the insanity lasted back then? Was it comparable to what's going on now?

"I hope this blows over in a few more weeks, or a couple of months at most."

Dont hold your breath. I had a conversation with a gentleman at my local range/shop who has been in the industry since '87. He told me he has never seen anything like whats happening now - including the 94 ban. According to him, if the frenzy buying stopped today and no bans/restrictions were enacted, it will still take the manufacturers YEARS to overcome the depletion of their surplus and fulfillment of current orders. But thats just one (experienced) man's opinion.

I think your right. I dropped an egg the other morning, down onto our tile floor. My first though was, "maybe it wont break"! That proved to me that at heart, I'm an eternal optimist.

So we had a local gun show this weekend and I knew we'd be busy. On friday we had 500 rnd boxes of 5.56 for 300.00 and when I got to work kid stops me and asks, "dude, do you think I can bring these boxes into the show?" I said there wont be a problem because its a public show, guys do that all the time.

So the kid buys 4 boxes and on his way out he asks for a Sharpie. I give him one and he then takes it and turns the 3 from the 300.00 into an 8 and leaves. Im like, no way this kid is getting 800.00 a box for 500 rnds.

Sure enough, dude was back yesterday am and bought 5 more.

I should have added in my post - once this craziness levels off completely I would assume that availability of now scarce items will probably eek its way back slowly, however I would be really surprised to see prices come down on anything anytime soon.

Daymn, I can remember back when my dad complained about them costing $3.50 a 1,000.

Many people are saying that Obama is the greatest gun salesman in history.

It is looking that way. The 1994 ban did not see such craziness. Most people didn't seem to know or care about such rifles.

I went to the local gun range to do some shooting. Had to wait a half hour to get a lane so I thought I would look around. The shelves were pretty bare but what they had was expensive. They had a stock DPMS AR-15 for sale for $1500. $1500 for a DPMS. That's absurd.

Prices are beginning to go up now all around.

All of our Mossberg guns went up 50.00. All SIG's went up between 50-75.00 and I was told that Colt is as well.

All hi-cap hand guns, no matter the caliber, are now sprinting out the doors.

My store's inventory is usually around 7000-7200 guns is now around 5. Lowest it's ever been in the current format.

I am not an industry expert either, but believe from my experience and reading what information is out there regarding inventory, demand, manufacturing and of course market uncertainty that the firearm environment will not approach anything near the old normal anytime soon....

.....maybe never. Be prepared to pay more for desired platforms and ammo (including components).

I am done buying manufactured ammo for the foreseeable future.....now is the time to stock up on components before my local sources of that dry up. Took me better part of three weeks to track down a .223 die set (local & online)....quite obviously I am not the only one thinking this way.... Luckily one of my local LGS has ample supply of powder and primers still. Pay day this week, going to buy a few thousand more primers and couple pounds of powder.

Keep your powder dry...

If anybody in southern Wis is looking, a little birdy told me last night that our store's weekly truck will have a bunch of AR's.

Picked up a Beretta CX4 storm 9mm at a decent price today. Granted only a handgun round but should be fun little shooter. Now if I can only find some ammo at a decent price....

Reloading is starting to make sense again, particularly for something like .308.

We have 30 gallon drums of 308 tracer rounds, about 8000 rounds, for $7000.00.

Let me know you're cc # and I'll ship them to you. LOL

So we got in 25 guns and 125 pmags on wed, they didn't last 2 hours.

One dude tried to buy 6 guns. We had an ATF associate refuse to do his 4473 due to this being an obvious Straw Buy (he bought 5 last week too).

Of course he threatened legal action.
