This doesn't really say anything we don't already know... but:
White House Confirms Obama To Make Gun Grab:

I was hoping to delay getting my carbine... but I'm thinking it's time. They had plenty yesterday, hopefully they've still got one tomorrow afternoon.

I agree that 12 should be plenty but I took a course from an ex marine, ex SWAT guy a while back and he said that is always a good idea to have extra magazines. He stated that since they are spring loaded they are prone to failure after time. That is my primary thinking behind having a number of them in stock.

I'm picking up my second AR in 2 months. The hell with it. This one will be either a simple M&P or Bushmaster ORC that's kept NIB. I ordered 6 30rnd PMAGS yesterday also. My store is completely out of all 20 and 30 rounders.

Last month, between Mako, Magpul and CAA, we had 200 mags. As of Sunday..0.

I'm thinking about buying an ACOG with it also.

Do what I'm doing and buy an Optics Ready Carbine (ORC)like Bushmaster, DPMS or Smith. You can get them for right arounf 700-800.

I like what I'm reading about Windham (ex Bushmaster employees), but have yet to actually see one.

You can save yourself some coin by going to the Bushmaster Carbon 15 composite gun, but I'm not 100% sold on that yet.

The S&W Sport rifles have been proven to be quite solid and can be found under $800, or could be a few weeks ago. Basic solid platform but it is missing two features that are normal for the AR-15. One is the forward assist. I don't see missing that as a negative at all. The other is the dust cover over the ejection port. I see that as a minor issue. I've seen torture test video on YouTube where they were tossing hand fulls of dirt and mud right into the ejection port of an AR-15 and they pick it up and fire away. Keeping it well lubed is more important than keeping them shiny clean.

I just came back from our local shop to take a second look at the Predator Custom Shop AR with the ACOG scope. They are opening late today. I'll be heading that way late afternoon though. If they still have one and I like what I see, it's going to be a done deal.

I have the S&W Sport and I love it. No issues whatsoever. Of course I have not been pouring dirt in the ejection port and have been keeping it well lubed. They are very hard to get though and that was before last Friday. Now I imagine they will be almost impossible to get.

As long as it's made to mil-spec, any of them should be good to go. Dpms is the bottom end for what I'd buy if $$ were an issue, walmart had been carrying them for $587 here. Even building one yourself can get you close to the sub $600 range if you shop around, but finding good deals now is pretty much impossible. I ended up with the RRA LAR-15 and another complete lower from them as well. The lower was $300, the complete one was $1100. Now I need another upper, not sure what I'll get to go with it as of yet, but I'm looking at the .22 conversion kits from CMMG and Stag, both are around $200 or so. 1/10th the cost when shooting .22 LR, so it's something I want to investigate anyway. Might get the 300 AAC Blackout for the other lower, then use the conversion kit on the 5.56 one.

Best make and model for long range accuracy in .223/5.56mm?

I'm interested in 200 yd and 300 yd target shooting, 18" to 20" fluted or heavy/bull barrel, but not the competition-only style, more practical for possible hunting duty as well.

Best deals in the sub $2K range including optics?

1/2 MOA capable?

Cheaper than dirt quadrupled their priced, dicks sporting goods pulled some stuff, walmart appears to have either sold out or pulled tactical rifles as well. I was in the local wally world on Monday, they had one ar-15 left, it might have been a windham for $850 or so, didn't look at it close enough to tell. I was only passing through for ammo in .40 and .223 for plinking.

On a side note, the local range only had 5 ar-15's (all were $1500+ I think) on the wall, Friday last week they had a full stocked wall, ie; 30+ guns, more in the back. Talked to another guy here at work, the gunshop he visits/buys from sold 40 ar's on Saturday, another 30+ on Monday/Tuesday, I think he said they sold out. Sales are brisk.

I'll take a pic of out Tactical Wall when I head in tonight. I have a feeling it's quite a bit more bare than when I saw it on Sunday.

If they do an AR ban, I have a feeling it's going to be alot more than just AR-15's and AK variants.

If you're looking for a tactical shotty, I'd consider buying one of those as well.

Mossberg 500 is supposed to be the way to go. Standard issue for Marines ... of course they use a 12 gauge though.

I went to the 'out of town' shop hoping it'd be less busy. Guy next to me just left with his AR. He got in line 6 hours ago.

I've been here an hour, probably looking at another hour (hopefully).

Mossy makes some tasty 20's in the 500 series.

Looks like a ton 'o fun, but perhaps a bit too "tactical" for my needs. : )

I'm looking for a home-defense shotty that Denise will enjoy practicing with, hence I'm thinking a 20 as opposed to a 12. Mossbergs makes some nice choices, as does Remington.

I will say this, Mossberg has a bunch of variety in their line-up. My favorite is the 930 Tactical

So I called a local shop that had a used Bushmaster a few days ago. Gone! No ARs at all. I called the shop that had the RRA AR I had looked at earlier to see if they and any stripped lowers left. They had a bunch in the display case when I was looking at the RRA. The guy said their getting about 10 calls a day looking for them. I had called the shop earlier in the day about the AR with the scope. They said the price was now $1,249. I went their to seal the deal. Quoted me the wrong price. It's up to $1,375. The lady that quoted me $1,249 spoke up and said she did give me that price on the phone. They honored it. A guy right behind me paid $1,375. It's insanity.

My gun is supposed to ship from the factory this week (it's one of four they ordered earlier for stock). I should have it when I get back in town after Christmas. He had no ammo for 223. In fact his ammo shelfs probably had less than 15 boxes of misc. stuff.

You would almost think someone was predicting the world was coming this week.
