quote:

Romney: The Role of Government (1st Presidential Debate, Oct 3, 2012)

"Well, first, I love great schools. Massachusetts, our schools are ranked number one of all 50 states. And the key to great schools: great teachers. So I reject the idea that I don't believe in great teachers or more teachers. Every school district, every state should make that decision on their own. The role of government -- look behind us: the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. The role of government is to promote and protect the principles of those documents. First, life and liberty. We have a responsibility to protect the lives and liberties of our people, and that means the military, second to none. I do not believe in cutting our military. I believe in maintaining the strength of America's military. Second, in that line that says, we are endowed by our Creator with our rights -- I believe we must maintain our commitment to religious tolerance and freedom in this country. That statement also says that we are endowed by our Creator with the right to pursue happiness as we choose. I interpret that as, one, making sure that those people who are less fortunate and can't care for themselves are cared by -- by one another. We're a nation that believes that we're all children of the same God. And we care for those that have difficulties -- those that are elderly and have problems and challenges, those that disabled, we care for them. And we look for discovery and innovation, all these things desired out of the American heart to provide the pursuit of happiness for our citizens. But we also believe in maintaining for individuals the right to pursue their dreams, and not to have the government substitute itself for the rights of free individuals. And what we're seeing right now is, in my view, a trickle-down government approach which has government thinking it can do a better job than free people pursuing their dreams. And it's not working. And the proof of that is 23 million people out of work. The proof of that is one out of six people in poverty. The proof of that is we've gone from 32 million on food stamps to 47 million on food stamps. The proof of that is that 50 percent of college graduates this year can't find work. The path we're taking is not working. It is time for a new path."

Sometimes... I think people should say things out loud before writing them down or posting on the internet.

I mean, actually sound out the words slowly and think about it.

Might cut down on some of the foolishness.

FtB, I've never seen that look from 0bama before; not sure what to make of it.

There's no question he didn't want to be there (I'm surprised he didn't break out in hives) and was totally unprepared for actually having to debate (instead of being adored and worshipped) for a change, but that look............. ???

One down, three to go, and an election.

"The government is not affective at bringing down the cost of anything"
Classic
The 3% of MediCare Cost overhead is because they auto-approve any EDI claim with a TIN and a Modem. and they chase fraud as an ad-hoc exception rather than an integral dedicated wheel to the machine.
Private insurance pends and denies - rather than pay and pursue - it costs more to do.... but the financial stability of NEVER sending bad checks out to begin with far outweighs the 'lower' cost of rubber stamping anything through the window.

It was an uncomfortable smile to cover less than happy emotions.

I think there is embarrassment.

I think there is anger.

I think there is frustration.

I think there is indignation.

What you are seeing is a President who was never vetted and has NEVER been questioned or tested by anyone up to this point.

I can almost guarantee you that the next format will be better managed. As Chris Matthews said, "this wasn't an MSNBC debate was it".

Deep down, Progressive "journalists" KNOW they have abdicated all responsibility for seeking the truth and have chosen to protect a candidate who shares their ideology.

Chris Matthews is angry not just because the candidate who share's his ideology did poorly, but because his poor performance illuminates and reveals Matthews' journalistic malfeasance.

It also explains why the spin, after the shock last night, has begun in earnest. CNN and MSNBC are working to cover themselves as much as Obama at this point.

Matthews and the rest of his feckless lapdog media pals are not journalists.

Entertainers, a la professional wrestling? In spades.

But not journalists.

I bet Chrissy cried all night.

Back to The Look: I've only seen something close to this twice before, once when Ryan was taking 0bama to school over 0bamacare, and once when Netanyahu was taking 0bama to school over how to be a leader.

In both occasions the ch0sen 0ne looked troubled, but in a different way: condescending, aloof, superior, arrogant.

Last night was somehow different.

I can understand why he probably felt like his skin was on fire, but that smirk was odd, IMO.

I'm assuming he meant FactCheck.org, learn how to work the Google Machine guys.
http://factcheck.org/2012/10/dubious-denver-debate -declarations/

Obama accused Romney of proposing a $5 trillion tax cut. Not true. Romney proposes to offset his rate cuts and promises he won't add to the deficit.

Romney again promised to not reduce the taxes paid by high-income Americansand also to lower taxes on middle-income families, but didn't say how he could possibly accomplish that without also increasing the deficit.

Obama oversold his health care law, claiming that health care premiums have gone up slower than any time in the last 50 years. That's true of health care spending, but not premiums. And the health care law had little to do with the slowdown in overall spending.

Romney claimed a new board established by the Affordable Care Act is going to tell people ultimately what kind of treatments they can have. Not true. The board only recommends cost-saving measures for Medicare, and is legally forbidden to ration care or reduce benefits.

Obama said 5 million private-sector jobs had been created in the past 30 months. Perhaps so, but that counts jobs that the Bureau of Labor Statistics wonft add to the official monthly tallies until next year. For now, the official tally is a bit over 4.6 million.

Romney accused Obama of doubling the federal deficit. Not true. The annual deficit was already running at $1.2 trillion when Obama took office.

Obama again said hefd raise taxes on upper-income persons only to the rates that we had when Bill Clinton was president.Actually, many high-income persons would pay more than they did then, because of new taxes in Obama's health care law.

Romney claimed that middle-income Americans have seen their income come down by $4,300.That's too high. Census figures show the decline in median household income during Obama's first three years was $2,492, even after adjusting for inflation.

Obama again touted his $4 trilliondeficit reduction plan, which includes $1 trillion from winding down wars that are coming to an end in any event.

Fox News Draws Record Numbers for Debate, 58 Million Watch Overall
Ben Shapiro, Oct 4, 2012

While the rest of the media seethes of Mitt Romney’s big win last night, Fox News – the most fair and balanced news network -- can bask in the glow of high ratings. During the presidential debate, Fox News drew 10.4 million viewers, with about 3 million in the coveted 25-54 demographic. That was Fox News’ highest-rated debate ever. CNN came in second, at 6 million viewers; MSNBC brought up the rear, with Chris Matthews’ leg-tingling performance drawing a mere 4.7 million. Each of the three broadcast networks garnered approximately 10 million viewers.

During last night's debate, we saw the clear choice facing voters in this campaign. President Obama can't defend his record and has no new ideas to run on. Mitt Romney clearly demonstrated that he is a leader who will create jobs, turn around our economy, and work across the aisle. We can't afford four more years like the last four years.

I still don't know who is getting my vote.

Chris, when you were serving overseas, did you have bullets in your rifle? Yes? Good, that's the way it's SUPPOSED to be.

If so, what would you have said if you were ordered to disarm before being allowed to listen to a pep talk from the Sec of Defense?

If you were ordered to guard a US embassy, but told your weapon had to be "inert," what would you say?

If you were president, what would you say to Ambassador Stevens' grieving mother, or the parents of the two Navy SEALS who were killed in the attack in Benghazi?

If you were president, what would you say to Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry's grieving parents, knowing he was killed with a gun YOU walked into Mexico? (Do you know what his last words were as he bled out? He said to his buddy who was holding and comforting him, "I can't feel my legs."

As a former military man, how does that make you feel?

It makes me FURIOUS!

PS, one more: You still feel like FactCheck.org is giving you the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?

Thanks.

Yeah, but they are just dead people. We kill 'em by the thousands around here. Some by bullet, some by bomb, some by noose. Some aren't even born yet and we kill them by the thousands.

We shouldn't let a half dozen deaths as a direct result of Obama's policies dissuade us from moving forward, should we?

As opposed to those who are on record with huge legislation saying "you have to pass it to find out what's in it"?

Actually Romney did get into the how. He got into how there are a number of ways his goals can be achieved. It is up to him to work with both sides of Congress to get them to work out details to achieve those stated goals. Yes that is lacking in details, but it it full of how you actually get things done in government if you want to achieve even halfway decent legislation. When Romney explained all of this BO retorted "that's what I've been doing". Romney then pointed out that he's had 4 years to get this done, and hasn't made any progress yet. BO is no leader. Romney is a proven leader. The choice is clear.

The difficulty is that to have a government provided solution, you have to have 2000+ of legislation to document all the rules and procedures that must be followed to make government centered solutions work.

There are far fewer details needed to reduce the size and scope of government, reduce taxes, and allow individuals seeking to secure and realize their own American dream to do such.

Those without ambition or ability or imagination or aspiration need someone else to provide them with a detailed plan, a path to follow in order to realize success and prosperity.
