Well, after having a good day by being told that the military doc was full of it when they told me I had an eye disease and that I don't have it. I do have some high astigmatism though and torq soft lenses just don't work for me. I hate that when the rotate just a bit it will screw up my vision. So, I learned sometime back that there are not hybrid lenses and I am really interested in them because they are support to work really well for astigmatism. Does anyone on here use them and if so, what do you think about them? | ||

Why wouldn't you want to do the lasik instead? I wore contacts since 1970 and then about 15 years ago had the lasik done and haven't looked back since. I came out of it with 20/15 vision which was kind of like HiDef for your eyes. I'm sure the procedure is even better now and know of a person who had one eye set for reading and the other for far away objects. As far as contacts go, I thought they corrected astigmatism with weighted contacts so the heavy end always rotated to the bottom of your eye. | ||

I wear Bausch & Lomb Pureview lenses. I have bad astigmatisms in both eyes. I also need bifocal glasses. These lenses are vari-focus & suit me well. I've been wearing them for 3+ years & never had a problem. I do find it difficult to read road signs over 200 Ft away though! YMMV. Chris C | ||

I have the eye disease they thought you had most likely. Its called keratoconus and affects the structure of the cornea. Astigmatism accompanies it usually I think. The best bandaid for it is hard contacts and cornea transplant is the next and last option. I am hoping they develops something better in the future. Of course when we take profit out of medicine it may slow development down. Oh well. | ||

Strok, I'm just outside of the limit for that and I figure I will take what I have rather than risk it. (Yes, I know the risk is low, but I'm overall just not comfortable with it.) Johnny, yeah. That was it. The military doc said I had it. I got a second opinion after I got out and the result was what I listed. Completely in the clear. He saw nothing that made him concerned on any of the tests. | ||

Everyone I know who has had lasik performed now has zero problems with their uncorrected vision. My mother's eyesight was so bad her entire life that she legally was not allowed to drive without wearing glasses. She had lasik performed last year at age 49 and now has 20/15 vision in both eyes with no correction. I've been lucky with nearly perfect vision my entire life.. I only need reading glasses lately with a minor correction. Wouldn't hesitate to get lasik though, if I needed it. | ||

I've been wearing glasses for over 40 years, now have vari-focals as I can't see past the end of the kitchen without & can't read further than my nose hardly. Got my regular opthalmologists examination in 2 weeks time. I'm going to ask him about laser surgery. The thing that worries me, at 53 yrs old, is having it done & then finding in 5 years time that I need glasses again because my vision's changed with age. | ||

That's basically what my ophthalmologist told me Grumpy, I'm almost 40, he said that I would probably have perfect or better than perfect vision but in order to see up close or read I'd have to have...glasses. I figured why bother? I got glasses without the bottom frames and I just look under my lenses. I think I'll do what my coworker did. It was either have Lasik or buy another bike; he now has a nice '76 Gold Wing Limited. | ||

Your doctor will tell you Lasik will correct your vision, but that you'll still need reading glasses as you age. Most people who have poor eyesight have eyes that tend to keep getting worse over time. I had Lasik done about ten years ago, and I'm starting to get to the point where I need it again. It is massively worth it. The freedom from glasses is liberating. The nearsightedness that comes with age can not be corrected with Lasik. Just pick up some reading glasses at the dollar store. | ||

I've been wearing glasses longer than I haven't. I don't know if I'd feel right without them. Kind of like that dream where you realize you're in your underwear at school | ||

I wear glasses and in the environment I work in they have protected my eyes in several situations, and in these minor situations I probably would not thought to wear safety glasses. So if I did have an eye surgery, I would have to be more observant of wearing safety glasses then I had in the past, which would take getting used to. I do wear contact lenses for Scuba, and that is a hassle for me. |
