Nobody is "rewarding" gays. Well, that's just not correct. For a very long time, traditional marriage has been rewarded with things such as a spouse being able to collect Social Security earned by the other spouse. We can have a rational discussion on if it is correct to reward this marriage or not. One thing seems pretty clear though. There just aren't any religions that have traditionally found marriage between a man and woman to be against their beliefs. When you put gay marriages into play, they get the same tax payer funded rewards. This is being funded by some who's religion has a very long stance against gay unions. Far longer than we've had a constitution protecting those religious beliefs. Personally, I don't really care much as long as I don't have it shoved in my face all the time. The whole Chick Fil A brouhaha was an attempt to do just that. It spawned a huge push back from the other side. That happens sometimes when you try to piss in someone else's Wheaties. | ||

Wow, I can say that I am truly and honestly shocked by the severe level of hatred and bigotry expressed by many members of this board in this thread. Every single human being is entitled to their own rights, opinions, and beliefs, but for all of you to attempt to force your beliefs and views upon others, so abusively and unnecessarily is sickening. There isn't a single thing in this world, that makes any of you more correct than anyone else. A few of you should be downright ashamed for the way you've conducted yourselves and put down others. It's really no wonder anymore why this country is steadily headed down hill...and it has absolutely nothing to do with peoples sexual orientation. This country and the people in it are in dire trouble because of people like some on this board. So concerned and consumed with spreading their views and beliefs irregardless of offenses they may cause, that they only cause a further divide and discomfort between all. I've been a member here for a long time, but after raging through all of this I'm going to have to reevaluate if I really want to stick around here... | ||

All I see are people ... trying to force other people into believing that THEY are correct and then try to make you feel less of a human for believing in what you might feel is correct. And when they find out you still think the same way they get offended and start calling you names. I am just annoyed at the whole thing. Could care less about it. Not sure where you feel that there is hatred or bigotry on this thread. I see intolerance of religious beliefs and freedom of speech. You probably need to be more specific about the hatred and bigotry of "many members" on this thread. It is neither hateful nor bigoted to refuse to accept the validity of homosexual marriage. It is entirely unacceptable to discriminate in the workplace against said same folks. | ||

Intolerant HMM Dan Cathy was speaking about his faith and its support. His livlihood was threatened his employees verbally berated and bomb threats were called into his restaurants. The arrogance and basic nasty treatment of every one that doesnt bend to the gay agenda will be the end of the movement. Tom-b, You hit the nail on the head, but your earlier post gave me a different impression. People even governments have take the bible out of context in various places and justified their own acts of murder, theft, you name it. This is how the Dutch justified taking what is now South Africa. Jesus taught that we should forgive our enemies. He also taught that His followers should stand up for the truth, defend the scriptures against false teachers and live righteously. | ||

I personally have no problem with gays getting "married", and in fact my church allows it. I don't agree with it, so I no longer tithe. That's my choice. I don't go around saying gays can't get married. What I do say is it's not something I believe in, but it's also not my place to determine what other people do. I'll say this one more time. The government needs to get out of the marriage business. Period. Chick-fil-A is delicious. | ||

I won't tithe directly to the church until their policies come in line with my own. The church understands my position, and I've gotten zero flak about it. | ||

What you guys fail to realize, is that I was simply attempting to make the point that numerous people on both sides of the fence of this issue are treating others here disrespectfully. Once in a while it's actually sort of nice to see people showing kindness and general courtesy to one-another, even if they disagree about what's being discussed... Your profile has nothing to do with the topic Rein, you're completely right...but the general cross-translation of 'quid pro quo' is this for that. I was merely trying to offer that if you were so comfortable and secure with what you believe and the opinions you openly express here, you're sure hiding behind a lot of empty spaces. Fill us in with a little more info, and then you can criticize others for being vague. See, my profile says alot about me (that's kinda what they were for, I thought), not my general respect and discretion for others expressed by anything I've said thus far. The First Amendment has been brought up (of course) and mis-referenced as usual. All arguments made so far can be equally supported by it. To try and explain how it is more applicable on one side over the other, or why it only applies to YOUR cause, is asinine. EVERYONE has equal rights and protection under it, personal opinions aside. Sifo, my actual views and thoughts on the topic are completely irrelevant. I haven't said a word based on what I personally believe about it because oddly enough I know it's my OWN OPINION. It's what I believe and how I feel sure, but that doesn't mean it's actually right or that I'm going to try and force it on anyone else. I'm not dumb enough, nor do I have the time, to get into an internet pissing contest with narrow minded people whining like 5 year olds, unable to just grow up and realize that EVERYTHING in the world will happen whether you like it our not, irregardless of any amount of effort you put into swaying people to think like you do, instead of for themselves. The fact that this thread is so incredibly long and filled with so much anger and intolerance, is astonishing to me. One or two pages, sure...three, MAYBE 4 at the MOST, and how many are there currently (didn't even realize there was that much to say about it...?) The actual issue at hand has absolutely nothing to do with my distaste of the way people have conducted themselves over it, and I could care less if every single person on this thread overlooked everything I've posted...I know it may be confusing to you, but I actually don't really care what other people think of me or my opinions because I know deep down, no matter what anyone else thinks, and no matter how opposing an argument may be to me, when they finally shut their mouths I'm still going to be perfectly happy and smiling. I'll still believe the same thing I did before that they were so adamantly trying to oppose, and I won't be the one out of breath...but the hatred left my heart a long time ago. At least at this point it's become extraordinarily clear that constructful argument is useless. I'll still be criticized for sooomething I'm sure...  |
