my neighbor has military training. it was the sound of the tear gas canister going off (ting!) that made him realize that this was real. he ducked down, grabbed his friend, a girl and kid next to him, just as the guy in front of him got shot.

Guns and Ammo liked it. ( the new XD )

The Congrescritter's comments?

Sometimes, you get a comment like the bozo who insisted that 9/11 was punishment for rampant homosexuality. You gotta love people who know the mind of God. Or commit them to an institution if they know God wants them to hurt people.... Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference, until it's too late.

But.

You CAN safely say that much of what's wrong in the world today is because we have turned away from the values that worked. You have been able to say that for....well, since we developed language.

True, the good old religious values of Baal probably are not the best thing in today's world, and the God Given right of Kings is not something I respect... In fact, the list is endless of really not very good things we have valued in the past.

But there are many values that seem to me to be timeless and good for every time.

Respect for others. ( Until they prove unworthy of respect )

Protect the weak.

Resist the bully.

You can, I'm pretty sure, come up with other values that seem worthy for you to hold. They certainly exist.

Others? Well, the ancient Aryan ( Persian ) way to raise a Child into a Man, while it could use some updating, is still worthy of contemplation, if not emulation.

"Teach him Archery, and Horsemanship. Teach him to despise all lies."

And there is the congressman saying this is because of attacks on our judeo-christian values.

Really bites when anyone tries to spin something like this for gain.

Dave, which Congressman are you referring to? Gohmert?

Wolfie, you're welcome. Assuming (correctly, as it turns out) that gun-grabbers would milk the tragedy in Colorado to promote their anti-Constitutional agenda, it seemed like a timely, and relevant, contribution to this thread.

Can't have a congressman speaking his mind and condemning the debasement of and attack against judo-Christian values? We should just let the corrupt media have their way demonizing firearms? He should just be quiet and tolerate what he sees as the destruction of the moral character of our nation?

Louie is my congressman, and I approve of his message 100%. He is dead on accurate, and that message is nothing new from him. It's a message he's been making for years now, so to state that he's exploiting the issue is false. He's honestly responding to the issue at its very core as he's been doing consistently for years.

Go Louie!

Let's see now, from what the news tells me, Hollywood produces a series of dark and violent movies about comic book characters, a "lone gunman" decides to identify with The Joker, then reacts with an act of atrocious violence in a crowded movie theater, and the blame game starts. Violent popular culture of a very wide appeal, zombies, Batman, Quentin Tarantino, and the huge number of people who clearly support such "art." It is, sadly, a facet or our modern times.

Clearly, we as a society want the crazed nihilism of Clockwork Orange entertainment and yet some appear shocked by this particular outcome.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones. I fear, when our tongues stop clicking and our hands stop wringing, this will just be another statistic in a social battle for the freedom to produce demeaning screen violence versus the right to live without dire consequences.

My sympathies to the victims and their families, and my sincere hope that the gunman rots in hell for eternity.

I also hope our politicians get their collective heads out of their asses, and make some decent firearm policies. I live in Maryland, where your BOSS has to sign paperwork saying you need a firearm to safely complete your job tasks. WTF?? I'm not worried about carrying at work, I'm worried about carrying everywhere ELSE. MY carrying MY weapon should be about ME, not my job and my boss.

And yes, I truly believe more guns are the answer. You never hear of things like this happening on military bases. You know...where people have guns, and everyone knows it. Nutjobs think twice before they go there. They need to think twice before they go ANYwhere.

"No Guns Allowed" signs don't work. This jackoff was prepared to take human life. You think a *sign* is gonna make him stop and say "oh...damn...well there goes that plan, I'll have to figure something else out!"

I think we should take it a step further - if you're military, or law enforcement, you should be REQUIRED to carry a sidearm every minute you step outside your residence. No matter what, or where. If nothing else, it would make meatballs like this think twice before they go and pull this stuff.

My sincerest condolences to the victims, may you all find peace and some semblance of answers in this tragedy. Godspeed to those we lost, may you find a peaceful place where this sort of thing never happens.

or did you mean specifically shootings at a theater on a military base?
Cause even then I cant follow you, as this is the first instance like this I can think of in the past twenty years or so.
Sure, there have been shootings in theaters before (one classic one being just up the road in Greensboro at the opening night of the Notorious BIG movie where the guy who played biggie in the movie was in the crowd), but no mass shootings like this before.

It is a shame this happened, and I do feel bad for the families of the victims.

Went last night to see the new Batman movie and saw they had new signs up with no gun, no masks, or briefcases. Any bag would be searched as well.

I stand corrected. My apologies.

My point was, we're seeing more and more "soft targets" being hit for no apparent reason other than some nut lost his mind.

We need to minimize the "soft" part. If more people are prepared and able to fight back, I think we'll see less of this crap just because these cowards will be afraid to try anything in the first place.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and victims of this tragedy. The shooter is the one to blame for this. It is not fair to blame movies or guns for this. I love action films and many times it is more entertaining with more action. Does this make me want to go out and get my AK, AR, sniper rifle and shotgun to go and act out this in real life. "NO"

People who act like this shooter was going to get the guns and do this anyway. He knew right from wrong. Gun laws are not going to stop this type of person he will do it anyways. As was stated before signs do not work. Living in Alabama our county sheriff and city police chief both have stated to help them do their job for law abiding citizens to go out and get a gun for personal defense. Both of these organizations offer free defensive gun classes to all citizens who can legally own a gun. Many states make this a requirement for CCW.

As far as people inside the theater with CCW if the criminals know there are possibilities of others with weapons it might deter them from acting. If someone with training had a weapon the body armor is taken out of the equation. If you hit in arms, legs and head the shooter would not have been able to do as much damage.

Recently in Orlando, Fl a CCW person stopped two robbery suspects in an internet cafe because he shot at both as they were not looking. This is a prime example of why CCW is so important. Open carry may be even better. But I don't really want the bad guys to know I got a gun and be the first targeted.

Bad people are everywhere I want to be able to defend myself and my family if needed anytime (at home, in a store, in the woods, anywhere)

My $.02!

I've got a few guns myself. I play COD, I hunt, like action movies, etc. I've never gotten the urge to kill someone. It's not hard, I've successfully NOT killed someone for almost 29 years...

You can't carry a gun on base. They were one of the first gun free zones.

Look, he was a f&cker - so you ban guns....
you think if the ilk had hit him, that he could not have taken the entire side of theater down with an IED in the back of a pick up truck ?

jr high chemistry and unsupervised shenanigans has proven that you can make one hell of a boom out of the home improvement store.
what then, ban trucks ?

(yes, I did try and recreate the homemade recipe from Terminator I .... with surprising results)

The best instructions for shaped charges I have ever seen were in the Little Golden Book Encyclopedia of 1965.
I was 8 when I learned how to punch holes in armour !
If you know how the every thing works havoc is easy.
Several gallons of gas and no one would have survived the attack

I failed my rocket class project in fifth grade.... because i took the parachute out, stuffed cotton gauze and an M-60 into the nose cone instead.
It made a nice boom, several hundred feet in the air.
I don't remember that teachers name,.... but I do remember the principal's quite well.

My thoughts on the CCDW; my co-worker and I were talking about this this morning and the fact that if one or more persons had been carrying it may have ended up drastically different. BUT, on the other hand, I don't know what the average age of CCDW is but I was 37 when I got mine and at 37 with a wife and three kids Batman is not at the top of my list and a midnight showing of anything no longer makes my radar. What i"m trying to say is this demographic probably doesn't own "a" gun much less a CCDW to carry that gun. I just recently came back from a father/daughter bike trip with us and another father/daughter friends. I concealed my pistol during the whole trip, came home to a wedding (carrying) and spent all day Sunday with the wife shopping and carrying. Never once did anyone ever know I had it but I like to think that if "God forbid" anything like what happened in Colorado happened to me, things would turn out differently. I hope.

If more people took classes, Practiced, and got a Concealed carry permit, life would be safer. I'ts proven.

Point about the age factor though. All those "dead teenager" movies would be 15 minutes long if "the quiet one who just wants to study" carried.

There is a very strong and deliberate propaganda stream on continuous high rotation telling people only paranoid cretins carry guns.

Where guns are banned... that has some truth to it.

And the very highest violent crime stats.

Good one Fahren, clear and correct.

Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons.

http://pjmedia.com/victordavishanson/the-demons-of -the-modern-rampage-killer/?singlepage=true

I tend to agree with the above, especially the last paragraph.

Some time ago, a jerk shot R Regan. It could have been Carter, Bush, Clinton, didn't matter, he was trying to attract the attention of an actress..... Who in final irony, is gay.

Before that an even more horrible murder. John Lennon was killed so his killer could become famous. I don't care if you agreed with John's politics, or thought doing a peace sleep in was art or madness... Not one bit of that matters.

What is important is that we should never speak the name of the man who shot John Lennon. His fame should forever be fleeting and forgotten. People who kill people to be famous should be buried in secret, and their mention a taboo. Screw him, a man-child who robbed the world forever of the possibility of new music in our lives. Forget him. Remember John.

The same should be true of this joker wannabe. I don't care who picked on him when he was 3. I don't care that his aspirations to be a concert cellist were crushed by lack of talent... whatever.

I don't even want to know his name.

How can this coward keep his secret so long?
How come nobody had any idea what he was planning?

I've put off getting a conceal and carry because it costs $300.
Just put it on the top of my list.
