In a state that won't let diesels idle, there's no way in that they'd let this guy billow burning tire smoke without locking him up.
Let's just pretend he did do all of this "for real"...
You know how many baby Snow Leopard Spotted Lemming San Clemente Sage Sparrow Owls died during he filming of that video? Don't even get me started on the habitat destruction of the protected Interstitial Tiburon Mariposa lily that grows between the concrete joints in roadways in California.
Between Jack Bauer and Ken Block, California would be destroyed were it not for CARB and CALSTART

Most impressive CGI I have ever seen then, in fact it is better than the CGI in multi million dollar films. I haven't seen any indication that it was faked. I am looking at the site to get a permit to film in San Fran, it doesn't look too bad, but it surely was expensive to close off all those roads for however long it took to film all those scenes. http://filmsf.org
"The owner of the camera car that shot him on the bay bridge and some of the down town stuff was my co-director on Escapism. He was using a newer car than the one we used mainly because he needed to add the ability to have a jib for more dramatic shots than the van. The camera operator in the heli chasing Ken on the bay bridge was also the camera operator for all the on road footage in Escapism. He didn't create that entire thing with out incident…. there were a couple of pretty gnarly incidents with surroundings. Coming off the bay bridge exit he tagged a few things at least once. It would be great to see the google maps mash up of the video with all the SF locations, similar to the one done for bullit (sadly no longer online) or the one that was done for Rendezvous. http://bhendrix.com/wall/Gmaps_GVideo_Mashup_Rende zvous.html The massive intersection jumps are soo awesome. 3:45 is the taylor street & vallejo intersection with alcatraz in the background. 5:09 − 5:33 is vermont street near 20th ( home of the bring your own big wheel events and a road more twisty than lombard)."
" There were a lot of trouble around this shoot. The barge was surprisingly unstable and the wind didn't help. The car itself is pretty crazy too. The diffs are so stiff you have to make a multi point turn on normal road unless you floor it and do it drift style. The rc helicopters can only stay up so long with the heavy cameras and timing the drive becomes an issue. I've seen a lot of the raw footage and there are a TON of mishaps and retakes. You can get an idea if you look at all the tire marks as the car enters the scene. I.e. it's been there before and you can see some practice/crash lines unless they got it on the first shot. One shot I saw the car got to close to the inside and swept out a large row of GoPro's that flew around like gravel. They are cheap but not if you need hundreds of them. Also, both Travis and Ken were doing this injured from earlier jobs."
+1 on watching WRC on Speed. Back when Speedvision was going to become Speed, the U.S. WRC fan base suffered a momentary panic as it became increasingly obvious that NASCAR was taking over and could bump the only source for WRC in widespread distribution in the U.S. Thankfully, WRC continued to get air time through the years.
Pastrana would have been about 17 years old when this was happening. I think Block is mid-40s so he might have seen Makinen, Kankkunen, Vaatanen, and Mikkola, and the late Richard Burns. He might have even seen the Escort-to-Focus transition for Ford Racing.
I don't care if it was edited to look like one take. That was the sickest video I've ever seen. And I loved how the car provided the entire sound track with none of the typical terrible music that you'd normally get.
Actually no its not down played at all. Could care less what hes driving. Theres other drivers that can do what Block does that are also Rally drivers. His video's are alot of repeat to me anyways.
He's not driving a Focus, its a Fiesta! Well, the body of one at least. Great vid and I love watching him drive. He has done some really cool stuff with Top Gear UK as well.
Cool. That 2013 escape ecoboost looks like a nice modern alternative to my 2000 Saab 9-3 hatchback. Real room for real people, can tow, but performs well when I want and gets good economy the rest of the time.
Somebody rush out and buy one so I can get it from you used cheap when the Saab finally dies.
