No official word yet, but it appears to be improperly torqued con-rod bolts... which is resulting in catastrophic failures. http://www.s1000rrforum.com/forum/bmw-s1000rr-gene ral-discussion/12500-2012-recall.html |

I found that out today at the dealer, didn't get approved anyways. But the guy @ dealer seemed to think it was a side-stand switch issue. |

He printed the email out for me to read. It's a stop sales/delivery order with a note that all shippments to dealers are also halted. Nothing in there even remotely indicated what the issue is. |

I heard on another board that it's because the 1000 exceeds the 300kph top speed agreement. |

IMO even better news for Buell but bad news is it's also good for the big 4 |

i think the theory is if it's bad for them it is good for buell? i don't think this issue effects the race prepped bikes. |

There are only 100 Buells to sell everyone that gets purchased because someone opted out of a different machine to purchased yours is a win win as long as they are happy with the product. Secondly they will loose racing support and someone will have to gain what is lost.IMO anyway |

I really don't see how they loose racing support, they are fixing an issue. Blown motors doesn't gain you racing support either... |

I think I speak for most when we say we want EBR to kick BMW's ass fair and square. We aren't rooting for BMW to fail, just loose to EBR. Same with KTM. I hope both end up on the podium, right below Geoff and Danny. I suppose Triumph would be OK also... |

Hmmm, Reep- just imagine the day that the big 4 from Japan get shut out of podium placing!! There's a good article about Nicky Hayden in my new MCN- it mentions the time when he was racing the RC51, and won Daytona at age 20! I kind of appreciated it when Honda decided to develop that bike, which is kinda a cult/collectible bike now- seems they (and Suzook with the TL) got skeered of what the Ducs were doing, with the V-Twin... Gotta love a little bench-racing! |

I hope no one gets hurt because of this. "...Last Sunday an official demo bike engine blew on the Motorland pit straight spraying oil on the line and breaking area (it's not proven this issue is the cause however it is can be suspected as the engine casing was split open from the inside). Amongst the several resulting crashes, one rider lost his life." -quote from linked thread |

The TL is harder. The RC they made from 99-2006. That was plenty of bikes made. I have CBR 954 RR. They made only two years. In 02 Kurtis Roberts,Jake Zemke and third rider ran them the FX and did awesome. I couldn't figure out why they didn't use it in Superbike. It handled better and it was faster. I went to Road America like every year. I might of spotted 3 or 4 954's. Then went to Indy.... 1 all weekend. They are harder and harder to find really nice ones. |

I've been waiting to say anything because it was second hand info but I heard there are at least a few of the 2012 bikes that have had catastrophic lower end failures. |

Having read the comments from the BMW owners, it seems they have every bit as positive an opinion about BMW techs as we have about H-D techs ...... |

Hmmm- Bads, I guess they're just scarce around here, don't see many at all. FWIW, you're right, hardly see a 954 either. |

The latest rumor I've seen floating around the Kawasaki boards is that Kawasaki was raising a "holy hell" over the fact that, out of the box, the S1000RR is capable of exceeding the "Gentlemen's Agreement" of a 186 mph top speed... |

Probably because nobody ever feels like posting how GOOD their mechanic is when they do a good job, but they can't WAIT to get online if they mess something up. IOW, take it with a grain of salt. |

Brum - Few clients will be looking at both the S1000RR and the 1190RS, since it costs almost three times as much the BMW. THis isnt a win for Buell in any way. |

It will probably come down to a single thing... Money. How much will they need to pay the dealership mechanic to fix the problem vs. how much they will pay the same guy to swap the motor. At typical labor rates it is very likely to be close either way and therefore they will probably choose to swap the entire motor out. "Defective" motors get put in the racing program or maybe rebuilt in a "specialized" plant for future warranty replacement swaps. |
