Reepi, Ohio has some laws that keep CCW holders in the clear. You'll learn about some of them this weekend. The Castle Doctrine for Ohio, IIRC has a stipulation that if it's determined to be a goodshoot, the assailant and/or their family, cannot sue in civil court for wrongful death/injury. If it's determined that it's not justified, they can sue.

There's also the felony accomplice laws, which, again IIRC, holds the person who initiated the felony responsible for all damages and injuries that occur. IE, one guy robs a bank, the other is waiting in the car, but the one inside kills someone before being killed himself, the accomplice is held for the murder of the person in the bank and possibly, the bank robber himself.

Keep in mind that I am not an attorney, I have taken a criminal justice class and this is my recollection of the information ...

I sure hope not. I'd like to see an Organization founded, funded and staffed by rational, intelligent, white men(I wish I could just say "men" but that's asking too much) with a good moral beam AND NOT BE POLITICALLY AFFILIATED.

I'd like to see said Organization actively campaign by media, and the law, for the disposal of the double standard that thrives in this country. To hold politicians, movie stars, religious(?) leaders and now seemingly ex heavyweight boxers feet to the fire with aggressive non partisan effort to out them as the racists they are where it applies.

To stick up for the "average white guy" to put it in simple terms.

By the same token take the responibillity to shine a burning spot light on people of the same color to themselves not be racist.I believe if some of these minority groups wold hold this standard a lot of our problems as a society would go be diminished greatly.

But I digress because it's such a silly unobtainable goal... the only real color that matters in this world is green and it aint gonna change.

Fighting fire with fire just makes the fire bigger. Just look at the New Black Panthers. They're really just the Klan in black. They did not help Treyvon's family in anyway and were not wanted at all. They only looked like fools and gave their opponents something to point at and say "Look who the real racists are." Even though I'd bet they're taking credit for it right now, I'm sure the arrest of Zimmerman didn't have anything to do with those clowns.

The only reason to bring back the Klan would be to lock them and the NBPs in a room together... just don't let the survivors leave.

It was not illegal for young T. Martin to be walking where he was.
It was not illegal for Zimmerman to be participating in a neighborhood watch, carrying a firearm, or approaching a person he thought to be acting strangely or suspiciously. That Zimmerman called 911 for help before the altercation suggests he was not looking for it.
Now it's just a matter of whether or not a crime was committed. And by whom.

On account of you're a bigot?

As usaul you are they first to point a finger.

Do you edit for NBC? Thats an outright unfounded lie and you knew it when you typed it...from what I see of your skills it seems you might fit in over there...

It's seems youve come to that conclusion by only taking part of what I posted and using it to appear as you wish.

I guess you totally missed the first four words of my post? Or maybe you missed my post about not needing the racist Al Sharpton to come to my town to spin a White on Black crime that actually was an American Indian on Black crime.

The "asking to much" would be way more descriptive of my intent. You and I both know no multi-racial organization could ever work. It's just asking too much for all the races(political parties, religious--this would be you-- groups,or whatever) to band together. Divisions among people as a whole are here to stay no matter how many times you play the Beatles song "Imagine" so put the bong down.

That's why I posted it they way I posted it.

Your Vanity shows through yet again. You are past predictable.

I had the exact same reaction as Blake about your post. Problems are not solved by reactionary tit-for-tat. That is something a three year old would do.

Rein,

There is no need to not recoginize the many to my one emotional ouburts by Blake. In fact I dont know how you could even read more than one page in this thread alone without and emotional outburst from Blake.

To call someone a bigot is childish, especially in the face of a post that clearly is against racism.

It clearly states in my post that I wish there would be an all encompassing organization to end racism. It also clearly staes that I think it's going to be too much to ask for. That's the reality of the situation.

So in the end, Sir,now that you have edit your post while I was typing my reply...it appears that your account is wrong. It's OK to stick for your buddy but not when he is wrong. That's how these things get started.

More importantly I didnt edit my post without explaining why.

You post it , you own it.... care to re-edit yours with what was there originally?

My typing sucks so I guess that makes me a(in your original post) childish bigot.

And BTW I'm not even upset about the whole deal really. It's the Interwebs and that would be fruitless. The proof being I didnt start with the name calling.

No, you started with hate. Blake accurately described your behavior and that is not "name calling".

Since you seem to be obsessed with edits, I originally added "You are a bigot, sir, and a childish one at that." I edited it out because I didn't think it served a purpose to point out the obvious.

I agree that this whole thing is a mess, and both parties involved are fishy.

Assuming Zimmerman was innocent, how is a trial a bad thing? We are all just doing the same thing that the media is doing- speculating. We all just need to step away from this, turn off the TVs and let the justice system do what it's supposed to do.

XBniner, thank you for interjecting something thoughtful.

The concern about "an innocent man going to trial" is that trials, especially jury trials, are very expensive, very time consuming, and have an element of russian roulette. Generally, the truth comes out. Sometimes, the better lawyer wins. Very rarely, the jury tries to right some other wrong by stringing somebody up.

In this case, Zimmerman is screwed regardless. His best option probably *is* go to trial, spend several lifetimes worth of fortune, hope to use it as a platform to get all the facts public, then come out "innocent". And still have a target on his back by professional racists.

But the evidence at this point doesn't seem remotely consistent with a charge of 2nd degree murder. If he wanted to gun down Martin, he could have just done it, without getting a good ass kicking first.

Don't believe the AP reported "minor injuries"... look at the back of his head in the cleaned up video from the police station. He has three huge swollen lumps. I've bashed my head plenty of times. And watched my kids clobber their heads in various activities. The *worst* related in less swelling than I see in that video, and the stuff I saw scared the crap out of me when I saw it happen just once.

If I saw a person get three distinct impacts sufficient to cause those kinds of lumps, I would have literally and honest to God thought "if somebody doesn't stop him now, that man is going to be killed". No doubt people are harder to kill than I think, but not knowing where to draw the line, I would have probably acted as well (even if I wasn't the one with said head being pounded into said sidewalk and feeling my consciousness and ability to defend myself fading away).

I'll agree that the evidence does suggest Zimmerman was likely a for putting himself in this situation. If he wants to do neighborhood watch, do it with more camera and more distance.

I don't agree that it's OK to change the rules of law, or not report all relevant evidence, in order to charge a man with a crime he likely didn't commit just to simplify political and public relations matters.

First and foremost, as usual, I blame the mainstream media. Had they reported more facts more clearly sooner, this whole thing would be what it is, a terrible stupid tragedy for a kid who was far to young to die. It appears many things played into that tradegy, but I just don't see objective indications that second degree murder was one of them.

I feel (and pray) for Treyvons parents. What an awful thing to go through.

Reepicheep, I literally agree with everything you said here. The problem lies, exactly as you said, in the media and in us. My guess is pretty much every forum, every watercooler, and every bridge game is talking about this, not to mention anybody who is ever exposed to ABC, NBC, CNN, or FOX.

His chances of getting a fair trial at this point are skewed. Whether in his favor or against it depends on who is on his jury and what preconceived notions they have.

The 911 tape has him chasing Martin for less than 10 seconds, while still having a discussion with the 911 operator. He spends more time than that on the 911 call while walking back to his vehicle, then the call ends. There is one more detail that hasn't been made public that I know of, but the police know this for sure... How far from Zimmerman's vehicle was Martin when he was shot. In that time he could have been hundreds of yards away. If he was shot a good distance from Zimmerman's vehicle, then Zimmerman must have kept perusing him and he is a guilty liar. If it happened near his vehicle, then Martin obviously came back and Zimmerman's story is backed by more verifiable facts and should never have even been charged.

The police know what the story is already. I think that is why they were able to make an early determination that he should be released. It's unlikely to do this with a person that has verifiable facts that contradict his story.

His chances of getting a fair trial at this point are skewed.

Trying to find an impartial jury after all the media exposure this case has gotten is indeed going to be difficult...if it is even possible.
It will be interesting to see what evidence the prosecutor has put together, and whether or not it is enough for a conviction. Is this a case of an ambitious prosecutor grandstanding for the public, or does she actually have a legitimate case?

I agree with Reepicheep that taking a case to court without sufficient evidence is a waste of time and money.

No doubt people are harder to kill than I think,....

Actually, we are soggy bags of water. It's a freaking miracle that so many live to reproduce. ( evolution or design? who cares, we are built just strong enough... barely ) Or to put it in technical terms...

The reason that smart bikers wear a helmet is that head injuries kill you. Someone came up with an injury numbering system, years ago, that worked out how much damage you could sustain & live. You hit 100 points and it's game over.... but you can crush a foot right off, and hop away.
Damage to a limb is so many points, to lung function more, and brain function highest. IIRC you can take like 30 points to the brain, and its over. ( I'm sure some safety freak here has it handy, please correct me on this ) but you can take 80+ point damage spread out, and do ok, after treatment & time.

Now it's true...People live through rebar right through the torso, nails in the head, etc. Heck, I've seen more damage than I want to think of, and most of those people are still around..... but.

If you watch CSI ( and ignore their uncanny ability to find 1 drop of sweat in a 500 sq ft room...then do analysis on it that Star Trek didn't dream of .... ) you see examples of people dying from a single punch to the back of the head, or some other tiny thing.

Having your head beat on a sidewalk can kill you pretty damn certain.

I don't know who threw the first punch. I don't know a lot of stuff, not having had access to the crime scene data or ME report. so I have little opinion worth giving as to who's fault this all is.

I do know that evil people want to use this tragedy to gain power and money. Who those evil people are is obvious.

If you bother to look.

Richard, ( 2734 ) IMHO the issue is not color, "race" eye shape, etc. It's culture.

I look a lot like many folk who have, to my mind, crap for faith, lifestyle, or attitude on how to treat others. The making a big point that "x are different... not real humans, like us" is a con job to let some people enslave others. BUT. Other cultures have different degrees of suck. I'm prejudiced, and think that the current slave owning cultures, the current women owning cultures, suck the worst... with the exception? of the marxist cultures which have both slavery and mass murder. #1 killer with a bullet!

People of all colors and races can work together just fine. I do it every day. People of different cultures... that is an issue.

There is a difference.

Yes, the military! Racial interaction in my opinion is one of the biggest factors in the "culture shock" that I've experience going from military to civilian life. The work ethic, structure, respect for authority.. I expected those to all be drastically different "on the outside".

What I failed to plan ahead for was reentering a world that still considers skin color a factor in determining a person's worth. It was one of the purest social experiences I've ever had - worked side by side with people who were fat, skinny, black, yellow, white, tall, had a lisp, a couple of coworkers had skin conditions where they were multiple colors at once! (can't remember the name of it) We all noticed the differences, made fun of each other for them, and worked side by side while doing it. I remember one kid who wore glasses that seemed like they were half an inch thick.. he caught hell for it on almost a daily basis. The intent was never to disrespect or demean him, and those who cracked the most jokes would have been the first to have his back when the need arose. I actually have to think back specifically about the people I worked with and the chain of command, because I never thought of them as the black Division Officer or the Asian Branch Chief. You worked with/for the individuals that were present because the uniform they wore demanded respect, and newsflash - all the uniforms are the same color.
