My 13 y/o plays it & really enjoys it. I've watched him a couple of times but it's just not my bag. It seems to offer a wide variety of scenarios & my lad really likes it. Apparently, there is no on-line play attached to Skyrim. It sorta reminded me of Dungeons & Dragons (but not on a board). Chris C
My kids have it for the xbox, I have it on pc. There are some glitches, but it's still worth the $$.
It's what D&D should be, only on a computer. Lack of online play kinda sucks, but based on the size and complexity of the world, I can see why they wouldn't have it.
Want online play in a large, complex worldmap? Red Dead Redemption. It's probably cheap by now too.
It's so much fun to jump online with a few friends and blow each other away with rifles/shotguns/revolvers while galloping through towns on a horse/donkey/steer/stagecoach/etc. There's plenty of "Gang Shootout" co-op scenarios too. Real neat game that doesn't have to consume a lot of time. It's like GTA set 120 years ago.
I was big into RPGs during high school.. especially MMOs. Everyone I've talked to that has played Skyrim loves it. I've gotta stay away from those games now, I get hooked and end up wasting my life away in front of a monitor.
Don't bother with the console versions, Skyrim was meant to be played on a PC. No loading times or save game glitches, higher resolution graphics, ability to mod and customize, console commands for when you want to screw around, and the best part is you can use a mouse and keyboard, which is a must if you are going to use a bow. The Xbox controller can be plugged in and used, I use the controller for general running around, then I swap back to the mouse and keyboard for combat.
I love it, my only complaints are that the user interface is optimized for a controller, making it a bit of a pain to manage items and the map with a keyboard, and the combat feels clunky. The enemies level up with you, which can make things difficult if you focus on something like blacksmithing instead of combat. I had it happen where I spent a few hours leveling up my smithing, now everyone was stronger and harder to kill and I had nothing to show for it. The difficulty slider in the options doesn't actually make the game harder, cranking it up just means you do less damage with each attack.
Either way, get it but for PC. Fantastic game, easily one of the best I have ever played.
I didn't like it. There was way to much character modification besides skills and powers. I played r=this level called 1000 stairs and i had no horse and walked these stairs for an hour! What a waste of money this game is. I ended up selling it to a friend of mine. I would rather play a 1st person shooter like half life 2 or F.E.A.R. or crysis 2
While it is called the thousand steps in game, I counted them, there are only 748 going up the mountain to High Hrothgar. It doesn't take long to climb them even without a horse, but with a horse you can just run up the side of the mountain and get there in only a few seconds.
