So in the next few weeks we are starting the groundbreaking for a new home for my toys. I only have room to put a deep 3 car garage on my property so the dimensions are going to be 36w and 28 deep. Which means I currently have one too many vehicles. I am getting tall ceilings with a second story over two cars most likely. The last stall will have room for a 4 post lift. Anyone have any experience with them? I want something of quality but also do not want to break the bank (the garage is already cutting into my corvette fund). Thoughts? |

I have a Mohawk System 1 two post in my garage/shop. A four post is fine for storage/stacking, and is easy to drive on and off. If you want to use the lift to work on vehicles get a two post. |

I will second the two post...I have one and it wasn't that badly priced. Doesn't seem to be in the way either. |

+3 on a two post, when I was shopping around a few years ago I found Bendpac to be the best bang for the buck. |

I 'll go the other way, get a 4 post with a wheel-free setup. That's just a personal preference you understand. |

I've got a Bend-Pak four post lift. It's made in the USA (check the others, most are made in China....) and has pneumatic locks on the posts (others are a cheap cable set-up). IMO Bend-Pac lifts are the best on the market...and when I bought mine, it was among the cheapest priced. Have had it for many years and it's awesome for storing vehicles. Like noted, for working on cars a 2-post is better, but for storing a vehicle, a four post is the way to go. (mine's free-standing, so I can move it around the garage.....try that with a 2-post lift) Chris, let me know if you'd like to see one in person, I'm located not too far from you. Also, if you check what most of the pros use, it's the Bend-Pak. I did extensive research prior to buying mine and there was no doubt in my mind that Bend-Pak was the best out there. The Backyard Buddy lift isn't a bad unit, and if you can get one for maybe a grand or so cheaper than a Bend-Pak, I'd consider one. At the time I bought mine, they were about the same price and after looking at them both, up close and personel.....no contest. (Message edited by prowler on April 02, 2012) |

I've got a 4 post and its primary purpose was to store an extra car. Comes in handy for oil changes, exhaust work, etc. For more auto work a 2 ppst is better but has a wider stance if space is a consideration. |

I helped a friend set up his new 4 post lift, a backyard buddy (http://www.backyardbuddy.com/). Extremely well made, and very good customer support. I think he had to order one extra doo-dad thingy to be able to jack up the car while on the lift to be able to remove wheels. PM me offline if you are looking at one and I can have him send you an email with more details on his experience. |

Thanks everyone for your input! I do especially need a 4 post because my vehicle that will be stored there will be a 1969 Corvette roadster and a 2 post would put way too much stress on the chassis. Obviously I would love to have the ability to take the wheels off and do suspension/brake work with ease so those attachments to the 4 post seem like the trick. Stalker- hows the mini uly working out for you guys? Prowler- where are you located? Reepicheep- I will look into the backyardbuddy and get back to you. |

A two post should be able to extend out and support the chassis close to the wheels. |
