Frog tape has a chemical in the glue that reacts with paint to seal the edges, leaving a cleaner line when removed.

Frog tape has limited use as...well... a tape. It lets go almost as good as blue painter tape, so is useful for temporary sticking up of posters and such, but the deliberate low sticking power of the glue, and the paper backing mean it is no duct tape, and not a permanent substitute for masking tape.

It's very good at what it does. Mask for painting. It's also more expensive than blue painters tape, but worth the cost if you want the cleanest taped lines in your paint job. Remove soon after painting in the usual peel away method, don't leave up indefinitely as it will leave some residue after time.

There are two versions of blue painters tape, at least from 3M. The normal one is wrapped around a normal cardboard core. The other one the cardboard core is printed in orange. The orange core blue tape is the one you want when you need nice crisp lines. They also make narrow width vinyl masking tape for masking curved designs with a nice crisp edge. Frogs are just a gimmick.

Of course not. It's stuck to the surface where it's supposed to be. Jeesh!

I bought a roll a couple years ago when it first appeared in Popular Science. The only place that had it was a small town OK hardware store.....and nowhere else. Wasn't cheap at the time. It is Latex paint specific. Not sure if it works with oil base paint.Saw it the other day at Wal*Mart for $7.95 and at Menards for $3.95(????)

Correct, the Frog tape is latex specific. The 3M blue edge-lock stuff is new to me, just shows what happens when you don't pay attention.

For structural work use Gorilla Tape.

And for anything that moves but isn't supposed to, there' s ...."Duck" tape.

The corollary being, that for anything that doesn't move but is s'posed to,....... There's WD-40.
