Drkside: Look at the website itself. It is funny and cool. This is encouragement, bri. Again, interesting comments. Funny how some here resort to calling others names. For the record, I am neither "ignorant" nor "delusional". One more time, create and fund your own private charity. It is guaranteed to be more effective with lower administration costs. I resent this program being a collaboration between the Federal government, the State of California, and the ACLU. How much money goes to institutionalizing this bureaucracy compared to the actual cost of condoms? Anyhow, I need to leave for work so that my tax money can be stolen from me to give a 12 year old a condom. |

I didn't really realize until we spoke that folks raised, educated and living on other folks dime . . . REALLY believe the bullshit they espouse. Gee, I wonder if there is a fairly inexpensive way to reduce the number of people born into this type of system?? |

Look at the website itself. It is funny and cool. This is encouragement, bri. Agreed. However its designed to encourage them to use protection. Once again the SEX will happen either way So.... Don't be a fool wrap your tool!!! Oh and when i was in HS in the nineties the local courthouse had handout days once a month. A safe sex pack and affordable BC for teen/early twenties girls. |

>>>>Gee, I wonder if there is a fairly inexpensive way to reduce the number of people born into this type of system?? I'm not sure that reducing their number is germane . . I've yet to see a baby born "stupid". As I listened to Holder talk . . . what started as a story of son of immigrant parents, raised in a tough New York City morphed into a story of a fellow who was "placed" into schools, programs, assigned not to jobs, but government programs for the disadvantaged and continued to be coddled in a system where he was not exposed to either risk or consequences. All this ostensibly in pursuit of affirmative action. The problem was. . . he was given access to the ladder and taught to climb . . he was lifted on top of the box. One of those who someone described as "pushed through the school system, told they have talent and self-esteem, who is unable to spell self-esteem". Everyone is a winner. When I saw him lying about having no knowledge of one of of the largest programs his department has ever had . . .then visited with him last night, impressed with his knowledge of nearly every little detail . . well, the irony wasn't lost. As he and his entourage of about 50 folks sped away in the flotilla of black Suburbans . . sirens blaring . . I just smiled. Gotta love a major university . . .I learned a LOT ! |

If it takes condoms being blasted out at kids with the T shirt gun during HS basketball games to reduce teen pregnancy (and my long term payment) so be it. Rein, I encourage you to find your family's bible. The big 200 year old one. Then start doing your own genealogy research and compare the dates written in the bible and official birth records. I am certain you will find a few shotgun weddings and bastard children. Abstinence only hasn't worked for 2 thousand years and it will not start working now. My wife teaches 6th grade in fairly good middle class community, and you will not believe what the teachers overhear, discover in school, kids that are pregnant. And the County we live in still covers their ears and goes "lalalalalala I CANT HEAR YOU." |

Wow . . where is the point of this discussion . .it was here a moment ago. It's not the condoms . . . nor the process, nor procedure. It's WHO is paying for it. I'm no more in favor of me paying for your kids condoms than you paying (you are by the way) for $160,000,000 worth of cell phones since we've not determined the "constitutional right to a cell phone". The saving grace is that these problems eventually solve themselves. You can only pay for things with money you don't have for so long. When it crashes I know where it'll land. |

"Once again the SEX will happen either way" Why is that? See my previous comment re; tolerance. "Abstinence only hasn't worked for 2 thousand years and it will not start working now." It's still a viable concept...cheap, too! My beef is with the attitude by some that there's nothing you can do about the fact that we have irresponsible children engaging in sex. ...So the best solution is to toss up your hands, accept the fact that 12 year olds are having sex (protected or not!), and let's give them free protection? Hardly a lesson in responsibility OR good parenting! |

It's called personal accountability. Why is it my problem, as a responsible adult, to take care of everyone else. I shouldn't be paying for someone elses condoms, let alone their cell phones, high speed internet, and cable TV….yes, there there are programs that provide ALL of that. I'm all for a helping hand to someone who has lost a job…as long as it is a helping hand, not a parasite. Let the kids have their kids and not give them a damn dime. Let them figure out life is hard. Stop putting teen mom and all that other garbage on TV promoting babies having babies. |

Welcome to the only country in the world where nearly all (they said over 95% in the story I heard, no clue, but it sounds close) the people living below the poverty line have:
- Air conditioning
- Cell phone
- Cable service
By the way . . if you want to see who's paying for that cellphone service . . look at your next bill. |

I'd like into get in this discussion but I can't even figure out what "emergency contraception" is. I can remember a time when I thought I'd die if I didn't get any but I doubt anyone other than me considered that an emergency. |

I'm with orman! Giving out free condoms fixes nothing, other than teaching people that they can get free stuff from the govt. Don't give out condoms, don't give out money to teen parents. Make them suffer for their choices. Make them work to survive. I would have no issues if welfare was cut completely. |

When the Hispanics(im 1/8th mexicabirthplace don't accuse me of racism) birth themselves into the majority and continue to vote for more socialism I'll bet you think a few bucks spent on condoms would've been a good idea. |

All the comments about the benefits of providing free protection makes the bold assumption that the target audience would reach for them at the time of need. It still boils down to behavior and responsibility. |

Wow! And how is that not a racist comment? It is always interesting to watch how threads morph. Court has it exactly right. You can hold your breath until you turn purple. You can throw yourself on the floor cauterwauling. You can pound your fist against the wall in anger. It makes not a bit of difference... when we run out of other people's money, it will all come crashing down. I, too, will be OK. I suggest the "Leftward Ho The Wagons" folks revisit the implications of the Nanny State. You are pushing us towards Greece and grease ain't gonna help. |

And exactly how and why is the ACLU involved in this nonsense? I wonder how much these "free" condoms end up costing? The $600 toilet seat covers come readily to mind. |

Just stop whining about people living on the system because you don't want to help something designed to reduce the number of people who are born dependent, will live dependent, and inevitably give birth to more people dependent on the system. This is just a description of a broken system spiraling out of control. They are born into, live in, and will die in a system of dependency. Solution: Make them dependent on more free stuff! One huge fail in this whole thing; Why limit the age at 19? We have a welfare system that pays more for having more kids. If this is supposed to be about creating less welfare kids then you have to address what is going on with adults too. Clearly the way the program is set up, it is designed to fail. No surprise there though. Does it promote kids as young as 12 having sex? No more than advertising beer to minors promotes underage drinking. Think about it. |

>>>> No more than advertising beer to minors promotes underage drinking. Think about it. I always thought that was BS too BTW. People don't drink beer because of advertising. They drink a specific beer due to advertising. They drink beer for the same reason they have sex. It's fun and it feels good. |

How can you in one sentence claim advertising has no effect and in the very next sentence point out the effectiveness of advertising? How about cigarette adds. You may be a bit young to remember the days prior to banning most cigarette advertising. Advertising something that's fun and feels good is just much more effective. Once you get a 12 year old hooked on the fun and feels good aspect, do you think they will be mature enough to be responsible when they happen to not have that free condom handy? |

>>> "Abstinence only hasn't worked for 2 thousand years and it will not start working now." Abstinence works every time. What you are likely trying to say is that not everyone will practice abstinence, or that abstinence is not a perfect solution. Are you contending that if offered for free, then voluntary contraception will be practiced by everyone, that it is the perfect solution? Best deal in actual meaningful terms for substantive discussion. |

Don't forget the old advertising truism "sex sells"! I wonder if that still holds true when what you are selling is sex? |

OK - here's MY TAKE on this issue. Think of who you want to prevent from breeding. Forced sterilization is...how shall we say... less desirable than encouraging "them" not to procreate. Small price to pay. |

I'm for the govt. paid for ( taxpayer paid for ) condoms. It's far cheaper, and better from a disease control standpoint, than paying for the abortions and medical care. Don't bother to tell me you don't want your tax dollars going to abortion. Too freaking late. Planned Parenthood has been accomplishing it's goals and you will not stop it. It's too powerful. ( it's goals? genocide, eugenics, and the death of the Negro family. The health stuff is the cover for it's racist ideals. ) So, you want to pay for baby mommy? Or Trojans? The rational alternative, responsible parents, is not even on the table. Good luck if you are even allowed to be a responsible good parent yourself. Expecting it from a system that, if not designed to produce dependent children of all ages, certainly does so, is silly. |

Let's include boxes of free Trojans with each Chevy Volt they sell. Then the buyers could drive around and hand them out at schools, parks, etc, all the while testing the range of their shiny new subsidized vehicle. |
