The bike looks killer! Thanks for breaking the news! India is outsourcing from America for once! Honda was just payed *a lot* of money for their R&D with Hero after 26 years. EBR gets to keep their independence as an "R&D house" while getting royalties and licensing with the largest motorcycle manufacturer in a booming market. Seems smart in this economy. http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/industry-and-economy/article2919805.ece (Message edited by unique_id on February 22, 2012) |

so the american motorcycle company is being sponsored by an indian motorcycle company? And people said the idea of Ford etc sponsoring them would be odd.... The bike does look nice, really looking forward to seeing what Danny can do on it! |

Until very recently wasn't Hero the Indian subsidiary of Honda? India looks like the new market everyone wants a slice of though, so it could be a good move for EBR. H-D, KTM and Triumph are all planning or already building new 125cc bikes for the Indian market for production in Indian factories, so does this signify a future EBR 125 entry level bike? |

Matt I was wondering the same thing. The Super Bike market in India is at best a niche market. It would only make sense to go with a size India uses... |

I view EBR as an engineering company that also races and builds motorcycles. This is an excellent fit for both companies. They, and we consumers, will all benefit. Well done. |

So...Danny's not only going to be dressed (and riding) like a super hero, he's going to have HERO emblazoned on his leathers? *click* |

Hero is one of the largest and most successful companies in the world. They make more motorcycles in a day than Harley-Davidson does in a year. They have an extraordinary forward thinking corporate culture and mindset. Their recent stock performance, sales and revenues reflect this. They have nearly unlimited and a largely untapped market. Recent events have changed and made that market far more attractive. But, they needed something . . . something big. Hero and Honda did a collaboration previously. Two of the world's largest companies. It eroded and was dissolved. There are hundreds of stories about this on the internet. Hero needed someone who COULD DELIVER what others have failed to. During the "dating" phase, The Elves at Erik Buell Racing had the opportunity to demonstrate what they COULD ACTUALLY DELIVER (remember Steve Jobs quote?) as opposed to what other had HOPED they could deliver. This is good news. Court (Message edited by court on February 22, 2012) |

I have a great appreciation for irony, always have. Anyone else getting a HUGE kick out of the irony of all of this? http://www.outsaurus.com/2011/07/03/outsourced-har ley-davidson-2/ HD sends some USD to India and now EBR brings some back. |

>>> Honda was just payed *a lot* of money for their R&D with Hero after 26 years. From the article you posted, Hero bought out Honda's 26% stake in Hero for $561M. It's just a majority partner buying out a minority partner. Nothing very unusual at all. >>> wasn't Hero the Indian subsidiary of Honda? Sounds like Honda was a minority partner in Hero. |

It will be an interesting story to follow the progress of EBR in India versus H-D in India. Both starting at about the same time. One with a fancy marketing department and lots of cash. The other lots of brains and creativity. |

what a sweet bike, I have always had my doubts about indians becuase of past experience how cheap they are, but seems like there are some indian companies that might be worth doing business with. wish the indian guy was happier in the pic, lol |

Hero and Honda go back a long way. Indian law has all sorts of requirements for foreign investment and the goal is to build this investment into viable Indian companies that stand alone. Looks like Hero has pulled that off. There is always some friction in these deals; it is the nature of the beast. The result of Honda being involved is that the plant is one of the most advance MC assembly plants in the world. I suspect it makes H-D's plants look a little old. Very cool news. |

Funny thing is... I am pretty sure Erik has been working on this for a while... He was leading that guy around LAST YEAR at Daytona... he had his son outside the fence next to me... but I failed to get any information out of him. I just assumed he was an American banker. I do not doubt that India will be a great market. Half our jobs have ended up going to India, and now middle class families have started to have some serious disposable income. In a lot of ways it makes sense!!! Things are about to get real interesting around here! Good job Erik!!! |
