Karl Lagerfeld to design two new Harley motorcycles

In an interview in this month’s Vogue magazine Harley Davidson stylist Willie G. Davidson and iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld announced a collaboration between Harley Davidson and the designer to produce two new motorcycles.

In the interview Willie G Davidson stated he and his long time partner, actor and poet, Simon Callow have long been close friends with the iconic fashion designer and his husband/manager, Jules Jonovitch. “Karl and I talked about working together for many years but it always seemed Karl was busy producing a collection for an upcoming fashion show or just busy with other projects, things just never seemed to come together for us” said Willie. “As a fan of couture and a stylist myself, I’ve always loved Karl’s sense of style and fashion so I feel so thrilled now that Karl is going be working more closely with Harley Davidson”. “Karl was instrumental in the design of the Rocker although he never got the credit he deserved for that” said Willie. “It was Karl’s idea to make it look like a giant penis” said Willie.

As a first step, Karl will design a series of jackets, gloves, boots and chaps as well as produce special edition “Karl Lagerfeld” Rocker and Cross Bones motorcycles the custom shop will manufacture. These designer bikes will coordinate with the designer “Karl Lagerfeld” apparel. Karl and his husband Jules Jonovich are no strangers to motorcycles and Harley Davidson. They along with their Pekingese Bobo are a common site cruising the streets of Paris together. Karl and Jules’s current ride is the first in his designer series. The KL (Karl Lagerfeld) series Cross Bones screams for attention with it’s black and white faux fur zebra skin seat, custom painted lavender, blue and cream tank and fender Karl himself is said to have painted, and abundant mirrored chrome.

“Fashion and motorcycles just seem to go together. I have always been inspired by the over the top look of motorcycle gear like the tight motorcycle jackets with their huge lapels and many zippers as well as the manly look of chaps. I often accessorize my suits with fingerless gloves” said and an obviously enthusiastic Karl, “I plan on taking these classic elements of motorcycling and injecting some modern twists, spirit and color from the fashion world” as he pointed to a picture of a semi nude male model wearing nothing but black and white zebra patterned chaps and a yellow jacket he says was inspired by the one Marlon Brando wore in “The Wild Ones”. The jacket features upper and lower rocker patches on the back that say “Wild Ones” and ”America” along with a small diamond 1% MC patch. Harley stores will sell a line of mostly fingerless gloves to accessorize with. The fashion designer also pointed to the “Cross Bones“ boots he designed. The boots look similar to most motorcycle slip on boots but extend to the thigh where they widen to a gauntlet. A zipper up the back allows easy entry and exit.

Read what you want into that.....Leather, chrome, Village People, Vogue, Willie G all rolled into one....I'm not touching it.

"The jacket features upper and lower rocker patches on the back that say “Wild Ones” and ”America” along with a small diamond 1% MC patch."

That 1% patch cracks me up. Karl Lagerfeld, his husband Jules, and their Pekingese dog Bobo are 1%'ers.

Think of it this way -- maybe HD is just reaching out to a new demographic to expand their sales. Heaven knows the parent company needs the money.

After reading all that, I'm speechless. H-D is selling motorcycles right? Unbelievable. May as well create a reality show called Orange County Harleys or something.

Yep - I wish I was good enough to make this stuff up. I've been sitting on the article for a while (I can't believe no one else has posted it). Too much fun!

Maybe Willie G could have a new reality show on Bravo. Maybe that would help to increase sales in the new demographic.

No - Rob Halford. My inside joke was that the Priest fans were stunned when he came out (like you couldn't see that one coming). Thought it tied into the earlier post nicely....

I admit to being naive. Back in 1970s (like most people) I didn't see this one coming either:

Even though all the signs were there, in the early 1970s people just weren't able to recognize them. Teenage girls thought Elton John was a heartthrob.

I think I'm going to get rid of all my HD shirts now....

And pry the logo's off that one pair of boots...

And never go to another dealership unless I can't get the parts elsewhere.

Of course, that almost explains Elton John being the 'surprise headliner' at the HD 100th party in 2003.

Now before it gets too freaky, I did a quick search on Lagerfeld, as I'm no fashionista. He apparently had this Triton commissioned, which I freely (no homo) admit I like:

First J-lo to sell the Fiat, now this - there are days I just wish the Mayans are right.

The first 100 people to buy either bike get their choice of a free life size Elton John scratch and sniff poster or a Rob Halford Harley Davidson whip.

Making the rounds of bike forums, but no reference to this elsewhere, (in Vogue, for example, who supposedly ran the story).

My suspicion: the best humor is funny because it is based on a deeper truth. Check out this fella, a well-known NY designer for the rich and famous.

Nice for Lagerfeld/Chanel to be able to commission a custom bike for a photo shoot! Too bad he doesn't ride the thing :-(

Yes City, I just bought a new S&W .38 for my wife in "PINK" Are we going to see pink HD's “It was Karl’s idea to make it look like a giant penis” said Willie, and this shape,
"coming out" soon from the factory with these new designers? This just might be THE new "pill" to take for all those with low T levels. What a joke, as usual, from HD marketing.

I really want a true American made bike to survive but it should have EBR on its tank.

Are we going to see pink HD's...

I think they've already performed that experiment - and FAILED - based on what I saw at a couple of H-D/Buell dealers while at home for the holidays this year.

You'll have to excuse the cell phone pics:

Pink tires

Pink tire 2

At the dealership these pictures were taken at the PINK tires appeared to have been on clearance - due to poor sales was my thinking...

Now if they can only figure out how to chrome them...

This "jacket" will be ripped off any jerkoff dumb enough to wear it around my neck of the woods.

1%er and MC patches are EARNED not BOUGHT!

You can't make this stuff up.
