I just think this is way cool. My two nephews are met in Afghanistan. One just got there for his second tour. One should be coming back soon, to Alaska anyway. Just had to share. As you were.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. Both are in fairly safe details for being in a war zone. The Marine is doing maintenance on C-130s. The Soldier is part of a security detail for some of the brass that travels around the area. He's the one I would have worried about. He's got lots of training that could put him into very dangerous situations. I guess all of it combined got him a pretty good detail. The Marine BTW scored the highest marksmanship score of his company of 350 people. Both of them when they were younger would take off for days at a time to test their survival skills in the woods. No food, no camping gear, etc. No they aren't twins. They are less than a year apart though. It's hard to believe how theses kids who joined the service have grown into very mature men.

Best wishes for all who are serving. I hope for them all to get home safe to their loved ones.

Just found this on Flicker. Forgive my gloating a bit.

Col. Todd Wood, commander of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, and Command Sgt. Maj. Bernie Knight, CSM of the 1/25 SBCT, promote Michael Kandel, an Infantryman with the Tactical Assault Command of the 1/25 SBCT, to sergeant at Forward Operating Base Masum Ghar on Dec. 2.
