I understand I will have to always pay taxes, I am nobody's entitlement, nobody's exemption, nobody's favored class for bail out. That being said, I would much rather write a check DIRECTLY to the Department of the Navy for my dole - than to support ANY of the social trype that the IRS panders its wares too. Hell, even bump it a % point for the 'preference' Yep, federal healthcare, education, social justice, social support, the 1% for peace, the NEA (both of em), the list is entirely too long - f#ck em. If it were up to me, there would not be a penny in my name to any of them. |

So we learned two things from Romney's tax returns. 1) He's worked hard and been very successful financially. 2) He's complied, in every way, with all laws and tex regs and been VERY generous. Case closed. That is ALL we really wanted to know, right? The perceived equity or social fairness of the tax system is neither his doing (don't we all wish we got to pen the rules every year before we did our taxes) or his problem. |

Look on the bright side, at least Romney paid his taxes. Seems some of those folks calling for "fairness" didn't. WH Staff back taxes $833K Here's my shocked face:

Rather than raise the tax rate on millionaires, I'd rather keep the same rate and add to the pool of millionaires. |

Are you starting to understand, Aussie? Every argument that you have made has been countered. Please, no pithy invective. It is really cool when over the course of time, one sees the emergence of a Conservative out of the carcass of a Liberal. It can and will happen here, folks, as Buellers tend to be intelligent people. |

All this Hubbub about comparing Romney to a secretary is complete BS anyway. Their earnings are not the same so it's BS. The idea that she is just a simple secretary is also complete BS. Looking at IRS data you can estimate what her earnings are. Comes out somewhere between $200K and $500K per year. Solidly in the "rich" category that BO and the left vilify daily. http://www.forbes.com/sites/paulroderickgregory/20 12/01/25/warren-buffetts-secretary-likely-makes-be tween-200000-and-500000year/?feed=rss_home It really is a shame that a guy like Warren Buffett doesn't find a secretary that knows finance better. She could have just "structured her income to be all capital gains" and paid only 15%. I hear that's easy to do when you are rich. |

This one says she makes $60K. 30% tax rate on 60K worth if income? That seems at odds with the tax tables. http://tusb.stanford.edu/2007/07/warren_buffet_has _a_lower_tax.html If she does indeed make 60K as the secretary to Warren Buffet, her boss is a cheapskate. |

He's wrapping in all the FICA taxes in addition to FIT. There is some validity to that, but it ought to be clearly stated. |

Taking a quick look at the tax tables, even the highest rate (Married, filing separately) with $100K of income her rate would only be 22%. A far cry from the claimed 30%. Past $100K you are off the tables and doing calculations, which I'm not bothering with. |

Now that Romney has published his tax returns, the conservatives MUST be assured that any candidate is heterosexual. It's time to demand video of heterosexual sex - and NO sodomy in any form. STRICTLY MISSIONARY POSITION. I say that any candidate that won't post his video (or hers) - is gay! |

If she does indeed make 60K That's just it. She makes WAY more than that: Warren Buffett's Secretary Likely Makes Between $200,000 And $500,000/Year Despite Unfair Tax Burden, Warren Buffett's Secretary Was Just Able To Buy A Second Home Still feel bad for her? BTW, she's well into being part of the 1%. |

Oh, I know you don't Hoot. My question was rhetorical. Let's pick someone in the HIGHEST EARNED income tax rate and compare them to someone who has nearly ALL of his income paid as capital gains. Like comparing an Ultra Glide to an 1190 and then calling the UG a POS because its handling sucks in comparison. Ridiculous. |

>>>>The perceived equity or social fairness of the tax system is neither his doing (don't we all wish we got to pen the rules every year before we did our taxes) or his problem. Yes we all do wish we could pen the rules. Fortunately for Romney and Bain, they get to. http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-january-24-2 012/indecision-2012---i-know-what-you-did-last-qua rter Specifically from 3:30 on |

No, rich people just pay politicians to pen the rules. You pay your politician, ( or mine, he's easy ) and you get your rules. That's the DC way. Or, you could pay Barack a lot of money and he'd give you a lot more of MY money, Like Solyndra, or the Unions. That's the Chicago Way. Not HIS money, of course, While those evil rich guys like Romney give millions to charity, fine upstanding folk like Biden give under $400. Those are extreme cases, of course. But typical, A "conservative" "rightwinger" usually donates to charity to help people. A statist "leftwinger" feels that the Holy State should do all, and wants OTHERS to not give as much to charity. That's why this admin wants to cut charity deductions. Their God is a Jealous God and wants no competition. Obama's a multi millionaire, where did THAT money come from? How much does he give? to others I mean. |

When you voluntarily give of your labors to help others, it's called charity. When you are coerced at the point of a gun to give of your labors to help others, it's called tyranny. I don't care if the government program actually works or helps others. It isn't for the Federal government to decide that the needs of citizen A create an obligation for citizen B. |

The govt. has defined functions. Defense. Some Law Enforcement, etc. There are many projects that a Gates or Allen either can't or won't fund, roads, bridges, etc. If you can't make money on tolls, how do you justify spending the money? The answer is that the govt. ( state, local and federal depending on scope ) taxes all ( or most ) for such improvements to the General welfare. True, if you are a hermit who feeds his family with a Ted Nugent shaming hunting ability, and never goes into town, you may believe that tax unfair. Other things are best left to private groups. While the EPA ( started under Nixon, a R ) has a vital place in enforcement and measuring of pollution, it should not have the insane powers it currently uses and abuses. Many people have had their lives wrecked because of idiocy like a rain puddle on their new home construction site getting their private property declared a wetlands, and threatened with insane fines unless they restore it to a pristine and unreal state. The best groups out there for ecological restoration have proven to be ( in no order ) the NWTF (national wild turkey federation ) Ducks Unlimited ( perhaps the MOST successful ) RMEF ( rocky mountain elk foundation ) etc. Statists see a developer start a housing project at a swamp ( where land is cheap...duh! ) and protest. Ducks Unlimited has a dinner. Then Ducks Unlimited buys the swamp and makes it a preserve, for hikers, bird lovers and hunters. Which makes more sense, and serves the public better? actual event south of Syracuse NY. The DU guys video taped it. After quietly buying the land, and establishing it's park status..... You see a group of sign waving tofu eaters marching in front of a locked gate in front of a "on this site..AAA condos" sign. A SUV pulls up, the crowd yelling at it, they unlock the gates, drive in, chainsaw down the Condo sign, put up a smaller sign announcing the newest State park and drive off, leaving the gate open, as puzzled protesters verrrrrry slowly realize they are now protesting a Park. Hilarious. |
