What are you going on about? I recall a "Ta-da" from you in nothing but your black skivvies as a doctor was inspecting my broken ribs. Ya rotten bastard!

This cannot be that bad towards making him laugh!

Well if we can't get beardless Crusty pics, I suppose I could post a bearded-Rat pic from when I was discharged.

Funny. Nobody thought to bring me a razor the whole time I was in.

Glad to hear the replacement went well, that's awesome news. DO WHAT THE DOCS SAY, even if it's hard and you think it'll kill you. I don't know what sort of PT or rehab they have for this op, but they won't tell you to do anything that will make it worse. I promise.

Heal quick : )

I got home this afternoon, around 6:00. Rocco, Megan and I had to stop at the Pharmacy and get 7 prescriptions filled. This surgery kicked my ass, but I survived. It feels great to be home. I'm going to get some sleep now, but I'll post more in the next couple of days with more details. Thank You for all the Prayers and Positive Energy.

I'm home; and even though recovery is going to be slow, It feels like a major victory just getting out of the hospital. I have to take a crapload of drugs; most of which I have no clue about. However, the Doctors know more about this than I do, so I'll be good and do what they say. Most are only short term, though a couple are going to be part of my daily intake from now on.
While it looked as though I was going to get out of the hospital this past weekend, I had a very significant amount of leakage from the incision, so the Team decided to keep me until the problem went away. I really thought I'd be out by Tuesday afternoon; and it really broke my heart to be told I was going to be kept for one more day on Tuesday morning.
Both of my arms are shot. My right arm blew up like a balloon from one of the I V drugs, and I had an ice pack on it for days. My left arm was used as a pincushion so much, that the vampires were having a hard time finding a place to draw more blood from.
I was told by a friend that UMass Memorial was one of the top four Hospitals for Cardiac surgery. Since he works in the Medical Industry, and has access to more information than I'd even know what to do with, I'll take his word about that. What I do know is that they have some of the most compassionate and hardworking staff that I've ever dealt with. The Nurses, Nurse Assistants, Aids and even the Housekeeping people were all helpful and knowledgeable beyond reproach. They earned my respect many times over. Based on my experience, I'd recommend UMass Memorial like a shot.
Thank you to you guys (and gals) who were able to visit me. Jim(Damnut), your visit did more to help me than I can express. I was pretty sick, and unable to be good company, but your visits did great things for my morale. Just to know that somebody cares enough to go out of their way to visit does wonders.
Thank you also to those of you who sent me cards. Some were funny, and some were beautiful, but they all were touching.
There were only a few TV channels available at the hospital, and there were very few shows that were worth watching. Now, I'm home, and to celebrate, last night I sat on the recliner, and ran the dial. There was still very little to watch, but it took a long time to get to that conclusion; and by then, I was ready to fall asleep for a couple of more hours.
I also am able to listen to music that I enjoy here. The only "music" at the hospital was on the CARE channel which would show beautiful scenes from nature with soothing background musical fluff that made Muzak sound upbeat and exciting.
I have very little strength and endurance, and I'm going to have to depend heavily on my friends to get through this.
Five minutes after Megan and Rocco left last night, a light bulb burned out in the kitchen. I'm unable to lift my arms over my head, so I'll live with it for a couple of days until Ernie and Candy come over to visit. At the same time, I'll see if I can sweet talk Candy into running the vacuum cleaner over the rug, which is pretty filthy.(I was specifically ordered to not run a vacuum cleaner) I need to take the time to let my body heal. If I don't, I'll be back in the hospital like a shot. Megan and Rocco will be coming back next weekend, and it will be nice to spend some time with them.If any of you want to just drop by and visit, I'd love the Company. I think you all have my phone #. If not, send me an E-mail at: nmwe*at*verizon*dot*net. If you just feel like shooting the breeze, feel free to call. And, Please, if I'm not up to snuff, and I don't have the strength to be social, don't be offended. It seems like I'm exhausted after being awake for only an hour or so, then I need to sleep for a couple of hours.
Thank you again for all the Positive Energy and Prayers I believe that they are what enabled me to have such a successful surgery and a Recovery that's going to leave me with more strength and energy than I've had for years.

Home sweet home!

Good to hear this- now, see about some good books to read during your convalescence- if it were me, I'd get "Ghost Rider" by Neal Peart... personally, I've not yet acquired it, but plan to.

Keep us posted!

Wow I think that's the first time I heard someone say that they were happy to see me. And it was my pleasure. I know how it feels to be stuck in a hospital, every visit counts.

Heal well and once again, if you need anything at all, please let me know.

Crusty:

I am so happy to hear of your recovery. . . . you had a LOT of folks cheering you on the other day.

I'll cover Daytona for you this year . . .but don't make it a habit of using this "I need surgery" excuse.

Hey; I'm now sporting a St. Jude 21mm aortic valve. It looks like a twin butterfly throttle body, and it's made from Stainless Steel and Carbon. It has a 100% reliability rating over a 15 year span.
The Cardiac Surgeon was considering an Italian valve, but it has extra cams that are a bitch to adjust; and it needs frequent maintenance.
I passed on getting a Cow valve or a Pig valve; why would I want a Duck valve?

: ). I know somebody here who can machine you a new shaft for it if it fails, but forum speculation is that so long as you haven't rerouted your intakes out of the airbox, it won't wear out.

If you have a catch can, this thread absolutely does NOT need pictures. ; )

I hope you're not going to start doing all the Steve Austin/6 million dollar man stuff, you know overtaking cars while running in slow motion.

Well not until you get some decent Pirelli sneakers anyway.
