Crusty, You're on our prayer list. We went through this very same scenario with my father and since his procedure he has yet to slow down. Unceasing prayer combined with modern medicine produces amazing results. |

Life has it's challenges. I find the physical ones are easier to fix than the personal ones. With that, prayers sent that doctors find/fix what your ticker really needs. |

Hang in there. After recovery from the surgery you'll be surprised by how much better you feel. Try not to overthink the procedure. What's scary for you is routine for them. |

Crusty, you are going to come through it and be better and the big guy with all the positive prayers from everyone will help as well.Just think of it as cleaning carbon off the valves/combustion chamber in the motor...runs better afterwards.Lt |

Thank you all for your well wishes and concern. It really does help. I just got home from the hospital, and I'm still feeling the effects of the "relaxing" drugs; please take that into account if I start spouting gibberish. I will say that I'd MUCH rather get a colonoscopy than another Angiogram. The day was interesting, to put it mildly. They ran two catheters to my heart. One through a vein in my groin to one side of my ticker; the other through an artery in my wrist to the other side of my heart. The good news is that my heart is strong, and needs no further repair work. The Doctor also gave me the easiest to understand explanation of what's wrong and why that I've heard yet. Basically, Aortal valves have three leaves set 120 degrees apart. I have a bicuspid valve; two of those leaves have fused together, so that when the valve opens, it resembles a fish's mouth. This causes turbulence in the blood flow to damage and scar the tissue of the valve, which makes it stiffen. The stiffening causes more resistance to blood flow, and increases the turbulence. This also makes the heart work harder, which will cause it to wear out a lot sooner. I've had this condition for most of my life, but was unaware of it, because enough blood was flowing and I wasn't experiencing and of the symptoms. The symptoms began showing up a year or two ago, but I didn't recognize them as such. It wasn't until my doctor heard something during my annual physical, that there was any reason to be concerned. Once I knew there was a problem, I was watchful and realized that I had all the symptoms of a problem. It's good that I'm having this valve replacement at a relatively young age. It should fix the problem, and my heart should be fine for a few more decades, at least. I have an appointment to see the Surgeon next Friday morning; I'll know more then. Now; about those Colonoscopy jokes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QI1go72c5H8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEzMbbeF4zk |

Well, the good news is that after your valve replacement, your ticker will sound like a Buell. If anyone asks, you can just tell them the hydraulic lifters are noisy and it's normal. |
