Since I got my GoPro Hero2 for Christmas and I'm in need of a good memory card was wondering what others are using and recommendations y'all might have. Like 16 or 32 gb and stuff

Any of the top shelf brand names will do it.
The cheap generic ones fail in extreme situations in a go pro.

A buddy has a GoPro Hero HD I got him last year, and he needed another SDHC card. Check your manual or on line. His specified it needed a minimum of a Class 4 SDHC card, which specifies the maximum data transfer rate possible for the card or minimum required for the camera. Video requires a faster rate, and therefore a higher class. The class is indicated on a number inside the letter "C" on the card. Allegedly some companies can claim the class without a formal certification test. Read the details.

I (also) checked some of the reviews on line from customers who bought a specific card. Some indicated they used them for a GoPro and had no issues, while some used the same for a Canon high-end camera and had issues. The Canon camera has a faster data rate, thus the bad review. (...and just because it's posted doesn't make it true, so I checked multiples).

Finally, his GoPro specified a maximum card size of 32 GB. You'll want to check yours.

Gotta do the homework, but hopefully this helps.

Yeah - I agree with all that too.

But then I also have a couple of the cheaper Class 4, C rated cards that work fine in my DSLR but freeze after a few seconds in the Go-Pro. I suspect the vibration gets 'em.

Something else to consider, if you want to have a card that can "multitask" - I use MicroSD cards, with SD adaptors, for my cameras. That way, in a pinch or a card failure, I have a spare micro I can reformat and use in my phone. Right now mine are only Class 2, but they work fine for the cameras (Nikons) and only really slow down when I'm loading photos from the card onto my ancient laptop. I think that's more because of the filesize, and the age of the laptop...but I may upgrade to a C4 card at some point to see if it helps shooting speeds in the camera.

I bought 2 Lexar Professional cards at Adorama yesterday.

Lunch cost more than the cards.

Thanks according to the manual a 32gb is the max (not sure why it would have a max memory) and for "HD" video it say a class 10 card. But for everything else a class 6 is all that's needed. I'm not sure if I'll really need 32gb so may get a 16gb and go with a class 10. Unless I can get a 32 for around $50. I did read the manual last night. But I learn better by doing so when I get my card I'll be playing alot : )

I posted last night, but took it down to revise it with some research.

SanDisk, Kingston, Cruicial, Corsair are my usual picks for memory, both flash and volatile.

Disregard the class 10 thing, as it doesn't mean much these days. Class 10 is the highest of the old measuring spec, and there are cards out there that would be Class 50 if it existed, but instead are just 10. What you have to look for is minimum write speed in MB/s. I did some research, it looks like the Hero 2 records at 15MB/s at highest settings, so you will need a card with something higher than that if you plan on doing full HD recording. Newegg.com posts the detailed specs of the cards they sell, just find one that fits your budget with at least 20MB/s minimum write speed.

SDHC cannot exceed 32GB, similar to how plain SD couldn't exceed 2GB. There is a new SDXC standard that will go up to 2TB. There may be an update for the Hero2 in the future to allow these cards, but for now I wouldn't worry about it.

I got a 32gb card for my Gopro Hero HD. The SDHC card outlasts the batteries by a long shot. Unless you are planning on powering the camera externally, or saving a couple of rides on one SDHC card, you don't need 32gb. I just went back and looked at my video files. I typically record until the batteries are dead. I have many files just under 12gb. The largest file was 14gb. These are all in 1080P. That's all I have been able to do with one charge on the batteries.

Transend Class 10 8/16/32

Cheap / reliable

Here are the average recording storage times for a 32GB SD card: 1080p (30 fps): 4h 21m 960p (30 fps): 5h 26m 720p (60 fps): 4h 21 720p (30 fps): 8h 09m WVGA (60 fps): 8h 09m

8GB = $11 shipped.

16GB = $20 shipped.

32GB = $39 shipped.
