Have used Apple's "Find My iPhone" app and results are kinda mixed. The first day using it showed location not found. The next day it showed being in 2 or 3 different locations at varying times. Since then it is showing the same location. We think it got lost inside a taxi cab because my son had it before getting in the taxi and not having it later. The taxi company has reported no phones in the last week for that area in Long Beach, CA. The L.B. police are no help because there are no indicators or hard data to authorize a search warrant. They say the Apple Find My iPhone service is too vague and general to be of any real help. What happens if the phone's battery dies, would the Find My iPhone still work? I don't think so but then, I'm not sure how that software works. So, has anybody else been in this predicament and been lucky to find their phone and not get any personal data or funds stolen in the interim? Any tips to try to find the iPhone? |

Sparky, I hate to say it, but if you lost an iPhone in a Long Beach cab you might as well replace it. (Message edited by pwnzor on December 22, 2011) |

No. No battery means no power to transmit coordinates. At this point your only hope is someone powers it on, and doesn't do a factory reset or change the SIM. |

OK, thanks for the quick responses. That's kinda what I figured. Checking the phone minutes and text messaging usage shows no activity there. But there have been some data transactions occurring each day. It likely means someone is using it or maybe it's the Find My iPhone app randomly polling for location. I don't know. One option with the Find My iPhone app is to wipe all data, so I think that'll be his next step before replacing the phone. And I'll make sure he installs a better kind of security countermeasure on it. So true, Zip, ha ha. I think I'll just stick with my old school flip-phone. |

Call the phone and offer the person who answers a reward? |

That is what I did.I lost my phone getting on my tractor after fueling it up at the store. When I went back and it was gone I called my phone and told who ever answered I didn't care about the phone but I needed the numbers in it for work so call whoever you want but please drop it off at the store when you are done with it.They just hung up but the phone showed back up at the store the next day |

IRRC find my iphone can take pictures too. Snap a few front and back cams. +1 on calling it. Find my iphone will ring even if it is set to silent. |
