Crusty,

quote:

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

Are you aware that we are living in a very rare time and place in history where the above has not happened? More often than not, it's been standard operating procedure for rulers the world over. I understand your point, but I think it's naive to imagine that we are immune from despotism and/or totalitarianism with all its inevitable genocidal consequences.

While we are throwing out lyrics...

Do you have the time
To listen to me whine
About nothing and everything
All at once
I am one of those
Melodramatic fools
Neurotic to the bone
No doubt about it

Sometimes I give myself the creeps
Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me
It all keeps adding up
I think I'm cracking up
Am I just paranoid?
Am I just stoned?

>>> Where were you conspiracy guys when they shut down Alaska?

Same place they were when they started rounding up Jews in Germany.

Capitalists in the USSR.

Intellectuals in Cambodia.

Capitalists in China.

Christians in Lebanon.

The list goes on, and on, and on.

Belittling the idea that tyranny, totalitarianism, or despotism could be heading our way is a really dumb idea. Wise up.

the CDC program mirrors the World Emergency Preparedness Organization, WHO, and of course the new OBAMACARE Reserve Corps love it.

So, Blake, you are saying it's better to assume that millionaire politicians who don't think the law applies to them might infringe your liberty, than to assume that they never would do such a thing?

Just because for most of the 14 thousand years we've had "civilization" liberty was barely a concept? Just because with the exception of a few brief and glorious moments in time Tyranny has been the Norm?

Sensible.

I wasn't aware that a large scale test was ever performed in AK.

I use a similar example when people ask why we do some prepping. Keep in mind, that I'm not talking bomb shelters, 3 years of food, etc. But enough water for a week, food for just as long, basic first aid kit (plus training), etc.

People who have been born in the past thirty years take clean water, reliable electricity, etc. for granted. When, in reality, we have barely seen 50 years of reliable utilities. One minor snow or ice storm can leave cities crippled for a week.

We choose to be prepared as much as reasonably possible.

Okay....

Would you rather not have a national Emergency Alert System? Or would you rather that FEMA, FCC, and NWS not test it?

The Interstate system was constructed to accomodate US military vehicles. Should we also be concerned about its use as a potential conduit for armed, tyrannical government oppression against the citizenry?

Scary stuff to think about, indeed. Best to hide in the woods.

It's not so much that I don't want to be notified in the event of an emergency... but more people are concerned with the capability of the government to shut down all broadcasting or control it completely.

I agree. It is very concerning to put the power of ALL our communications systems into the hands of one man. Anyone who cannot fathom the potential problem with that is not a serious thinker.

I'm unaware that the president can turn off the interstate highways of his own volition.

Stay outta the forest....
HR 1505: National Security and Federal Lands Protection Act ...

The roads that I travelled even in spring are being closed, gated, blocked and patrolled...
wtf are they up to behind those gates ?
This Muddy Dirt bug aint happy about it. And I am done riding unarmed out in the woods. Washington is an open carry state, and that revolver is well visible on my thigh.

Your paranoia is at 3, mine is cranking on 11 and bouncing off the rev limiter.

Ham radio. Over the past decade our Mormon friends have really getting into it, establishing a worldwide network of radio operators.

Alaskans use a lot of single sidebands to communicate.

KJNP (King Jesus North Pole, 50,000 gospel watts) runs out of the Interior, listened to by Christian and cannibal alike. And I always listened to Radio Moscow coming out of a repeater in Siberia. I think the EAS will keep the Alaskans in the cities in check while those in the bush will keep on doing what they do, unless the fuel barges stop coming in the summer. Mush!

From the EAS TV Handbook (http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/ DOC-278628A5.pdf):

"The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a national public warning system that
requires broadcasters, cable television systems, wireless cable systems,
wireline video providers, satellite digital audio radio service providers and
direct broadcast satellite service providers to make their communications
facilities available to the President during a National emergency. The
system also may be used by state and local authorities to deliver important
emergency information such as AMBER alerts and severe weather warnings
targeted to specific geographical regions or areas."

Did you know that it is the stations themselves that interrupt their broadcasting to transmit EAS messages? EAS does not "take control" of the airwaves. The requirement to respond to EAS messages is a condition of FCC licensing. If the President goes rogue, do you think FOX News affiliates are going to give a flip about the FCC?

Serious thinking must be tempered with serious facts.

It isn't just Millionare politicians anymore, it's the likes of Cheeks Kilpatrick, Kilwami Kilpatrick, damn near every county judge and lawyer, every cop that fudges an accident report.
