Did it occur to you that when you go into court, you are putting yourself in the hands of twelve people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty.

Or they are proud enough in this country we live in and the system of justice it provides that they actually want to serve it.

I'd bet if I were to be summoned, the defense would exclude me.

I've not been summoned either.

I would serve if selected. I believe it is my patriotic duty.

I have been summoned a few times, and would probably enjoy the process, but they won't let people in who have problems sitting in a straight back chair for more than half an hour at a time due to having had back surgery. I have actually tried to get in.

oops! I let an escape method out!

However, you do need medical proof.

I was summoned once and got picked to be on jury for a dui case. Guy took it to trial....huge mistake for him. Gotta love the dash cams. I actually enjoyed being a part of the process and was pleasantly surprised to see it actually work correctly.

"Did it occur to you that when you go into court, you are putting yourself in the hands of twelve people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty."

Nope.
Did it occur to you to not get in trouble to where you have to go to court?

Pretty crappy to instantly write folks off because they are serving jury duty.
Like said above, some people want to do their part.

Been summoned 3 times, sat on a jury once. Very interesting process, would do it again if called upon.

Served on a federal case jury in July.
Some of the attempts people made to get out of serving were pretty funny others were down right pathetic.

In the end justice was served. I was glad that I was able to help make sure of it.

What I find interesting is those who complain about the injustice of court decisions are usually the ones most resistant to serving on juries.

We're also instructed to follow the laws of the land as well. A legal system is required to have an effective civilization. Ours is far from perfect and as a result continues to evolve.

I think it goes something like "better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6."

i served two years ago...sadly, it was a case of law gone bad...a complete waste of time and tax payer's money..87 year old woman charged with assault on an officer.

She poked him on the arm with a finger to get his attention.

Two weeks ago, I got a summons...On the first panel, the defendant had stolen from me in the past...on the second panel, one of the lawyers was an old friend...

I REALLY wanted on the first case...but no luck....the second case would have been interesting...maybe next time...

The judge asked the general group if there was anyone that would be inconvenienced by serving...one gal spoke up and said she would miss he hair salon appointment...I thought the judge was going to have a stroke over that one...

BWAAAHAAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I got called in twice, and never had to sit in on a case at all. We were on our way down to the court room and it got settled out of court. I have no reserve against doing my patriotic duty.

Sometimes you are in the wrong place at the wrong time...

I have NO confidence in our justice system, after being dragged into something for years that I wanted no part of.

If someone has enough money and a sneaky enough lawyer they can get almost anything they want from our court system.

It makes me sick.

Yep Char, the biggest mistake people make is to think that the justice system has anything to do with justice.

I sat in a jury pool once and the people who were selected were truly not anyone you'd trust to decide your fate.

I am retired Army(infantry, and military police) white male living in the most liberal part of California. What are the odds that I will be booted by the defense as biased; can anyone say 100%

Been there done that, what a waste of my time. It would be nice to be selected, but it is never going to happen in my life time.

I have sat on a jury twice. Interesting experience and is recommended for all citizens.

There must be a rule that whoever speaks first in the jury room gets elected to be foreman of the jury. I opened my yapper and got elected on my first trial. On the second day of deliberations, I told the jury that I had eaten a bean burrito so it would be in the panel's interest to reach a decision. We did. The defendant was found guilty on the first vote of the day.

If you want to increase your chances of NOT sitting on a jury, then donate $5 to MADD. A very large number of cases are DUI related.

Never called for jury duty?!?!?

I'm moving to where you live. F'n Cook County calls me every 3 years like clock work. Went without issue to the first two the third was @ 26th and California so I made sure to get out of that one.

Funny part is I have been sent to Skokie and the daily center and have lived 5 minutes from a dif court house my whole life. I would go every other month if they would send me to that one.

I was summoned once, but they wound up not needing a whole slew of us for some reason or another... I think something happened and the case wasn't going to come up. Would have been interesting. Found out later it was a trial for a guy who was paying his nephew with drugs to have sex with his own wife, er aunt...?

Nothing happens where I live, including crime. Hell my mother accidentally dialed 911 once when trying to dial the 914 area code, and half a dozen police cruisers showed up in about a minute. I'm sure the town will practically shut down if someone was murdered.

My understanding is that you can only serve once per x amount of months. Sounds like by some chance you got called for both a state and a local jury.

If you are a full time student, you can get a letter from your school stating so and it will excuse you.

Benn called 3 times, served once, guy copped a plea before the second one and got sent home on the third.

Interesting if boring.

May not be perfect but I haven't heard of a better one.
